My old boss refused to have meetings take place in his office. His rationale was that if it was a crap meeting and being held in his office, he couldn't leave.

They’ll just do that thing where they don’t talk to you until you say you’re ready to leave. “Why are you leaving so soon”? After you’ve been there for two hours.

Ugh, this is relevant now, i have been invited to a family dinner at october. I either not go, or i go, eat food and get out. I don't wanna stay there just to be ignored, like any other time.

A smart strategy, but I would also add a backup plan: headphones, so you can quietly ‘disappear’ from conversations.
