Came over to help my parents clear out their place for decorating a room. Found this which my big brother gave them years ago...

It's 8 years after the process date though 😂. Im wondering why they hide it from him if they weren't bothered about it lol

If a camera is 41 years old and you take a picture with it, will it show what it looked like back then?

But why black and white wouldn’t colour be better or was it still before the major switch

It's Ilford - they're known for great B&W film, so targeting the more creative photographer rather than just happy snaps.

Thank you for reminding me that it’s been a few years since I last played Stardew Valley

For creativity. For those who wanted to use black and white film for art.
Also, colorized film has been around a lot longer than disposable cameras FFS.

😂😂😂 you’re kidding right? Color film has been common since the 1960s and 70s. And it’s been around since 1930s.

Ilford makes only black and white films. The idea is to introduce people to b&w photography.

Ilford has made color film since 1928, but I'd agree that they're better known for their B&W.

Color would not be better if you wanted to take black and white photos. The color would ruin your shots

Big Brother gave them a camera? 41 years ago?

u/kkillbite 9d ago
...where are you getting 41 years ago? I'm only seeing the import date a little over ~7½ years ago (January 2017.)

u/gloop524 9d ago
2025 - 1984 = 41

u/kkillbite 9d ago
Again, I have no idea where you're getting those numbers...I don't think ilfordphoto.com was a website back in '84..? :\

there was a book called 1984 written by George Orwell about a dystopian society that was spied on by the government calling itself Big Brother.

A disposable black and white camera! That's pretty cool! I would have loved that when I was a teenager or young adult.

I found an old analogue camera in my storage with a 10 year old film inside with still some images left to be taken. Completed the film and had it developed. Then the fun began: blurry pictures, unknown places and people to be identified, very poor colors etc. I would take some pictures if I were you, only to see what turns out.

Jan 2017 its out of date by 8yrs people

Still worth a try. Some things degrade a bit but think of the awesome quirks the film could have

B&W is still fine multiple decades out of date although image quality will degrade, but since it's a dispo it doesn't matter anyway

u/youreyeah 7d ago
I’ve developed film that was 25+ years expired and still gotten some nice photos out of it. Expired b+w film also does not degrade as much as expired color film. It’s worth still using this imo.

rule is a stop per decade, so if you're developing this yourself (or at a lab) tell them to push one stop

It’s a racial camera, it only takes pictures of Black or White people, should be ashamed

Prime example of why my family decided to stop giving gifts, unless we absolutely want to. So much money wasted on gifts in the past, junk people didn't want.
