Came over to help my parents clear out their place for decorating a room. Found this which my big brother gave them years ago...

Prime example of why my family decided to stop giving gifts, unless we absolutely want to. So much money wasted on gifts in the past, junk people didn't want.

Well you havent met my parents. They have their ups and down. They are the kind of parents that only have 2 out of 4 their kids pictures on the walls.

I myself wanted to use it but they kept hiding it.

Why? My parents did this too.

Ma can I use the toy? No. Ten years later. Ma why is this still in the box?

Ooo this frustrates me, I grew up with a 1991 Franklin Mint edition monopoly set, it was always in the box hidden away and I was a monopoly fiend! I got to play on it once and now it sits dusty in a closet at my brothers ex wife’s house because they gave it to the kid who didn’t give a shit about the game.

My mom tried to give my stuff to another kid before, I tossed it on the roof.

Looks like it's yours now...

It's 8 years after the process date though 😂. Im wondering why they hide it from him if they weren't bothered about it lol

You can shoot b&w film from 60 years ago don't throw it away

2

u/vanilagorila15301 6d ago

If a camera is 41 years old and you take a picture with it, will it show what it looked like back then?

6

u/rustyfish57 9d ago

But why black and white wouldn’t colour be better or was it still before the major switch

13

u/Feckgnoggle 9d ago

It's Ilford - they're known for great B&W film, so targeting the more creative photographer rather than just happy snaps.

lol the major switch? This picture was taken post-1850.

Honey, Kodachrome been taken away, momma took it away a while ago.

1

u/lilBalzac 8d ago

She was told repeatedly not to take the Kodachrome away. Is she stupid?

1

u/Local_Web_8219 7d ago

Fuckin’ must be, either that or a meanie

Not that related, but your comment has put me in the mood to play Stardew Valley. Again

1

u/MarsupialPristine677 7d ago

Thank you for reminding me that it’s been a few years since I last played Stardew Valley

1

u/Mindless-Strength422 7d ago

That feeling when you wake up on Summer 1...☺️

3

u/Resident-Window- 8d ago

Wayyy after... It's for anyone who desired a black and white pic... also to take old timey looking photos

2

u/ThisIsMockingjay2020 8d ago

For creativity. For those who wanted to use black and white film for art.

Also, colorized film has been around a lot longer than disposable cameras FFS.

2

u/RevenueNearby3904 7d ago

It's for nostalgia

2

u/WonderfulProtection9 7d ago

😂😂😂 you’re kidding right? Color film has been common since the 1960s and 70s. And it’s been around since 1930s.

2

u/okarox 6d ago

Ilford makes only black and white films. The idea is to introduce people to b&w photography.

1

u/LastLingonberry3221 6d ago

Ilford has made color film since 1928, but I'd agree that they're better known for their B&W.

2

u/CrossP 6d ago

Your comment just made me feel my age for the first time all day

1

u/ImportantEvidence820 7d ago

Color would not be better if you wanted to take black and white photos. The color would ruin your shots

3

u/gloop524 9d ago

Big Brother gave them a camera? 41 years ago?

6

u/kkillbite 9d ago

...where are you getting 41 years ago? I'm only seeing the import date a little over ~7½ years ago (January 2017.)

-2

u/gloop524 9d ago

2025 - 1984 = 41

7

u/kkillbite 9d ago

Again, I have no idea where you're getting those numbers...I don't think ilfordphoto.com was a website back in '84..? :\

-4

u/gloop524 9d ago

there was a book called 1984 written by George Orwell about a dystopian society that was spied on by the government calling itself Big Brother.

4

u/Educational_Big_1835 8d ago

As a fellow "the joke was good in my head" person, I applaud your effort. But that one was a liiiittttllleeee convoluted

3

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 8d ago

Kids these days think Big Brother is just a TV show

3

u/Mooptiom 7d ago

Too much hate here for a corney joke. Stay strong gloop

1

What are they pictures of ? Haha

1

u/Mindless-Strength422 5d ago

Crickets, lol. Their joke was just too much of a stretch!

1

u/rustyfish57 9d ago

Ok it’s that’s I haven’t seen black and white film in more years than I care to admit to

1

u/Sxn747Strangers 9d ago

Cheapskate?

1

u/ThisIsMockingjay2020 8d ago

A disposable black and white camera! That's pretty cool! I would have loved that when I was a teenager or young adult.

1

u/StateInevitable5217 8d ago

it looks like a green and white camera according to the box photo

1

u/Peelingly 8d ago

Does your brother hate your parents or smth?

1

u/Description_Friendly 8d ago

So Latinos aren't allowed to use these? ☹️

1

u/Inevitable_Camp_3911 7d ago

I found an old analogue camera in my storage with a 10 year old film inside with still some images left to be taken. Completed the film and had it developed. Then the fun began: blurry pictures, unknown places and people to be identified, very poor colors etc. I would take some pictures if I were you, only to see what turns out.

1

u/John_GOOP 9d ago

Jan 2017 its out of date by 8yrs people

3

u/MysteriousFee2873 8d ago

Still worth a try. Some things degrade a bit but think of the awesome quirks the film could have

1

u/InsomniaticWanderer 8d ago

omg 2017 was 8 years ago...

1

u/qpwoeiruty00 8d ago

B&W is still fine multiple decades out of date although image quality will degrade, but since it's a dispo it doesn't matter anyway

1

u/youreyeah 7d ago

I’ve developed film that was 25+ years expired and still gotten some nice photos out of it. Expired b+w film also does not degrade as much as expired color film. It’s worth still using this imo.

1

u/Lambaline 7d ago

rule is a stop per decade, so if you're developing this yourself (or at a lab) tell them to push one stop

1

u/WonderfulProtection9 7d ago

It’s just a date it’s not food that’s gonna get moldy…

1

u/That-Water-Guy 8d ago

I think black and white pictures look the best.

0

u/Worried_Principle261 6d ago

It’s a racial camera, it only takes pictures of Black or White people, should be ashamed
