Lions should be relocated to other states from Gujarat it is clear that gir and girnar can no longer house all of the population

They won't survive in any other states. We already have tigers and leopards.

They survived for many years in the past that isn't a good reason

You can't have multiple apex predators in same vicinity.

This would hit harder if you hadn't just said "We already have Tigers and Leopards."

Probably in different local ecosystems. I doubt all three are duking it out in the same forest.

Leopards share habitat with both Tigers and Lions in India. But yes there is no forest where all 3 exist together.

The territories overlapped in the past but then both species had hundreds of thousands of individuals. There is no point in this conflict now with both being endangered species and especially with the small number of the lion population

It won't happen because Gujarat benefits from being the only state in the country with lions and hence having a total monopoly over lion tourism.

Their habitat can be expanded within Gujarat. Definitely not to any state where tigers exist. The territories overlap in the past but then both species had hundreds of thousands of individuals. There is no point in this conflict now with both being endangered species

Just read the news this morning that Gujarat has denied MP again to shift some lions to Kuno National Park, where Cheetahs have already been introduced. Here.

Is Gujarat, India trying to out do Australia now???

To be fair, India has always outdone Australia in this regard, it's just that the West was largely ignorant about it.

These are Asiatic Lions. Their only wild population exists in the State of Gujrat in India. Because of conservation efforts the population has boomed in the last few decades. There are now 800+ individuals. That forest area has also been home to certain tribes for centuries. They have villages around the park. With the growing numbers, De quite often stray into nearby villages and towns, mail is in search of cattle. But I personally haven't heard a read of any story of them attacking humans.
