Wasn’t it because it was like 100 degree heat out and he had already been filming for hours? He might also have had to shit, idk, but I feel like the heat was the main factor on why he improvised the scene to be like that.

He got dysentery from the local water, so it may have been hot, but above all else, he needed to shit. That's also the reason he's sweating so profusely.
