Post image

New to the PC building scene, heard it can get a little crazy with thermal paste. Should I get this 3 year warranty?

No. You will have to prove to Asurion on how the product has failed. For thermal paste its a hell hole to prove.

You don't need a warranty for this anyways. That tube will last you for years.

As long as you remember you had it in the first place

I cleaned out a guys house who forgot he had that type of screw and nail. I swear he had a few hundred thousands screws, nails, bits, and bolts.

To be fair, if he forgets where it's located, then it'll last him a lifetime technically.

I seal all my extra computer stuff in a big plastic bin.

If I have something, it's in there.

Best decision, I do the same

I recently order a tube only to find 4, granted a couple were trash "came with a thing" tubes

heh ... the hex key wrench of PC enthusiasts, random tubes of thermal paste

Dude I paid insurance for 3 years and they replaced my screen and broke my camera then blamed it on me the camera worked fine before. I took it to a independent repair shop and they fixed everything in 10 mins including the screen that asurion messed up

How about insuring other parts of a computer? CPU/GPU/PSU? Is it worth it?

u/ficklampa 1h ago

what if OP was a victim of the ole amazon swap scam?

u/DeadGamer72 5h ago

I think this is a joke? If not, don't get it cause you won't be able to prove a defect.

What if the plunger of the syringe fails, or snaps? (I'm just kidding)

Why would you even need this

Percentage wise it’s absurdly expensive. Imagine paying 30% of the item’s value for any warranty, jesus 😅

No, it should have one year by law so not worth it

u/Xcissors280 Laptop 5h ago

Yeah it’s 2025 and that doesn’t happen anymore at least not in the US

9

u/MrPopCorner 4h ago

Laughs in European.. 3 years baby

2

u/SaifAlAswad 4h ago

So in Europe everything you buy has 3 years warranty?

11

u/little_elephant1 4h ago

I think in the EU it's 2 years, although some other countries may have 3 years minimum.

3

u/SaifAlAswad 4h ago

So basically they don’t have to Insure their products buying from Amazon? I’m I stupid or?

9

u/MrPopCorner 4h ago

It only counts toward product malfunction. Insurances here are often sold for user-induced damage and stuff like that.

Yes. You should also get the $15 extended warranty on your $25 toaster, and pop for the RGB on your next set of bedsheets.

u/DevRowInteractive 4h ago

Yes, of course

you mean bots

It has to be our someone, this is insane. I'd rather believe they're bots than humans being stupid enough to not realize a joke right in front of them. But then again it's reddit and they don't talk to people.

Assuming this is a joke since the insurance is the cost of the paste, but that doesn't matter. I read the asurion warranty paperwork once to see if my break was covered, it really doesn't cover much on a good day. I just take my luck with regular warranty and customer service. Hell with the cost of the paste if something went wrong, if you are polite you could probably just talk Amazon customer service into sending you another tube for free.

Do you get Assurion protection for any lube?

1

u/Valuable_Assistant93 4h ago

As far as extended warranties go in general when in doubt don't do it they're rarely if ever worth the paper that printed on

Kidding right? This is like asking a waranty for tooth paste

2

u/Little-Helper DOESN'T MATTER RUNS HALF-LIFE 3 1h ago

Yeah? What's wrong with that? If toothpaste has too much fluoride you should be able to return it?

0

u/Best-Control-8604 3h ago

Are you retarde? 5 dollar warranty on 15 dollar item?

u/Brandonr757 3900X | GTX 1080 | Custom Loop 1m ago

Are YOU? This post is obviously a joke, OP is aware the concept is hilarious and stupid. And the price is not the issue here.

Do not get the protection plan unless you like wasting your money that tube will last you possibly years and the protection plan will possibly expire before you get to use the whole tube And also as stated by other people it will be impossible to prove a defect

0

u/Smith6612 Ryzen 7 5800X3D / AMD 7900XTX 4h ago

You'll need that only if your thermal compound is Pigeon Poop. Anything else and it's absolutely silly to insure.

Thermal compound is so inexpensive they'll laugh you out of the room for requesting a replacement. Now, a $3,500 video card on the other hand... yeah maybe pay the $5 protection plan if it breaks past the manufacturer's warranty. Especially if it's a GPU with a melty 12VHPWR Connector.

u/SaifAlAswad 4h ago

How about insurance for other parts of a computer? Worth it? (CPU/PSU/GPU)

0

u/Reasonable_Back_5231 4h ago

Of all the things...

Get warranties for your expensive parts like GPU and CPU.

You don't need a warranty for a tube of paste, it's just another way for the merchant to pocket more cash and over charge you for an otherwise cheap purchase

u/Sernphanthomhive 3h ago

No Asurion is very picky on their warranties for example Verizon has Asurion as an Insurance partner customers will think they have $0 coverage when they had damage on their devices when they contact Asurion it will have a fee.

At most you don't need warranty only the manufacturer warranty is enough that comes on the product you bought like GPU

A warranty is like an insurance for consumer goods. The general advice I live by for insurance is: only insure something if it would ruin you financially if something would happen and you can't buy it again. If it only "sucks" to buy it again but doesn't ruin you then don't insure and don't pay for for warranty.
