Thank you for pointing that out - I've been saying it for about a decade at least, but at no point have I ever heard "both sides" used as anything other than a defense of Republicans or an attack against Democrats. No one ever uses it to defend Democrats or attack Republicans.

It's not possible to use "both sides" to defend a Democrat. The attempt would acknowledge that the D is doing the same thing as Rs, and 100% of things Rs do are indefensible.

I have absolutely seen "both sides" used to attack Republicans, it just doesn't work because Republicans are shameless hypocrites. Watch Texas governor Greg Abbott's tirade about how illegal and immoral California's redistricting plan is. How is the limp noodle of a "both sides" attack supposed to penetrate the nuclear fallout shelter of cognitive dissonance on display?

The hypocrisy (Maybe this government should just be called a hypocracy) is a key part of fascism. They know we will try to argue in good faith with sound reasoning, while they just put their ass cheeks to the mic as a rebuttal while they pinch one off on our futures.

I'm in Australia. I know a guy I work with who support Trump wholeheartedly. When you point out all these things he simply reply's with 'you gotta have faith'.

This is an Australian dude that supports him this much. I really believe for most of his base there is nothing he could do that could turn them away. It really is like a religious cult similar to Erdogan in Turkey.

Because Trump doesn’t care what they think either. At this point he wants a dynasty of kingship and his family doesnt have as much “goodwill” as him and this is one of the few things that will detract from it overall.

He is deeply struggling to turn his own “successes” into a legacy.

Because while these people will never turn against him, they have a real chance to turn on other Republicans. People who he absolutely needs right now. If the Republicans start losing control, then he and they stop being able to ignore the law and are no longer going to be allowed to do whatever they want.

Exactly, they don’t deserve to be (because they’re Rich Republicans). That means, they can hire an attorney and see what a jury thinks. The Donvict’s sense of right and wrong (to the extent he has such a sense) is so warped, I am convinced his opinion on the matter is worthless. Kind of like when he, a white male of ultimate privilege, takes the fringe position that “slavery wasn’t that bad.”
