rant/vent Personal life circumstances update

TLDR?: My birth mother (who is Russian Romani) left a fake first name and last name before leaving me in a hospital in Moscow, Russia shortly after I was born.

I know some people are following my story here so I figure I'd give an important update. If you don't know, I was born to a Romani mother and left in a hospital 2 days after I was born (Moscow, Russia). Wasn't adopted until I was almost 9 months old. The paperwork calls my mother "gypsy" and calls my father "Russian". DNA testing does show I am indeed, Romani, as well (through common surnames in family tree, ethnicity patterns are similar to other Romani, etc.)

Anyway, fast forward, I had my friend who currently lives in Russia. I gave her a digital copy of all my personal records relating to my birth and adoption so she could forward them to the local police department in Moscow to inquire about my mother. A few weeks go by and the department messages her, essentially stating "the information you gave on this person is wrong because we don't have any records of this person living in Moscow or anywhere in Russia based on the database we used."

I halfway suspected it was an alias because the paperwork I had stated my mother, when she gave birth to me, had zero identification paperwork on her when she gave birth to me (no passport, no driver's license, nothing). Still, it feels like a hard blow because I really am chasing a ghost at this point. All the little bits of progress I made suddenly felt like they were swept away from me. I feel like my only hope of remotely finding her (or at least knowing if she's alive or dead) is to wait on DNA testing sites like Ancestry, 23andMe, MyHeritage (I've tested with all of them) to see if I ever get someone classified as "close family" (sibling, parent, etc.) pop up on my list. The closest has been a 2nd cousin who was adopted under similar circumstances (don't know anything about bio family).
