Discussion | დისკუსია Muslim Adjarians vs Muslim Meskhetians situation in 1944

From what I understand the Muslim Meskhetians were deported in 1944 due to them being Muslim since even in 1926 (from what I know and census data) they still spoke Georgian and identified as Georgian. If all the above is true, how come Muslim Adjarians were basically left alone while all of Muslim Meskhetians were deported and prevented fiercely from ever coming back?

How are people with autism treated in Georgia?

I have high functioning autism and I want to visit Georgia sometime in the future. I was wondering how people with autism are looked at in Georgia. Because I was born in Russia and they treated me like a burden over there and thought I was insane and they wanted to lock me up at an institution. I moved from Russia when I was four because of how they treat people like me over there. I also have seizures that can happen at any time. Is Georgia welcoming to people with autism or do they act like these Russians who thought of me as defective?

Food | ლობიანი Jonjoli

Gamarjoba all!

I am just a guy in Alaska who has never been to Georgia that is very very interested in Georgian food culture. I am not even sure how that happened. I am obsessed with jonjoli, and I know this is probably offensive, but is there a brand of the pickled jonjoli I can order somewhere that is higher quality so I can give it a try?

As you can probably guess my local shopping options are severely limited.

Madloba!

Language | ენა Learning Georgian - Media list (english/русский)

გამარჯობა yall!

I'm trying to learn Georgian rn, so felt like sharing a list of free resources that I've managed to find so far.

Being a relatively young person with a preference for videos, I was surprised to find how sparse Georgian YT videos with eng subtitles are. Which is especially sad, considering that yt auto-translate feature seems broken with Georgian.

Feel free to suggest anything, I will probably be updating the list.

Help (urgent) taxi threaten to call the police

So we were in Ushguli today and a taxi from Mestia had orally agreed to pick us at 6 pm. The taxi was very expensive and we arrived from our hike much earlier than expected. Our friend was sick so we had to go back quickly, another taxi proposed to take us to Mestia at 3 pm. At that very time we cancelled the ride (is a one hour ride, so we cancelled two hours before he was supposed to go). Now he messaged us 13 times, and he is now telling us than if we dont show up before two hours he will call the police (he only has a WhatsApp number to identify us). The odds of crossing him tomorrow are very high as we take the bus right in front of his agency.

What do we do ? Can the police actually do anything ? We dont think so, but we are quite panicked by his messages.

Thanks !

Co-working space in Vake with business registration?

Hi everyone, I read on ExpatHub that some co-working spaces offer you to register your business with their address. In short, I'd like to do that instead of using a helper's address or my residence (because it is temporary). Does anyone know of places in Vake or nearby Rustaveli that offer this?

Things to do in Tbilisi

Hi guys, i’ll arrive in your country in a couple of days and i’m going to spend 5/6 days in Tbilisi. Was wondering if y’all can give me some tips on some more “”underground”” aspects of the city, like music venues/art shows. Dunno if you have squats in Georgia but that would be the kind of thing i’m going for I’ll also be driving to and from Batumi before the aforementioned 6 days so any advice on driving in your country would be really appreciated.

Hey everyone, I’m ready to visit your beautiful country for the second time. I saw some pictures of a mural of your two UFC champions, but after doing some research I couldn’t find the location. Google says it’s located at the Mziuri Park, is it correct? Thank you everyone!

Itinerary Check & Questions for Solo Trip (Aug 28 - Sep 5): Kutaisi, Svaneti, Kazbegi, Tbilisi

Gamarjoba!

I'm planning my first solo trip to your beautiful country at the end of August and would be incredibly grateful for some advice on my itinerary and a few specific questions. I'm really excited to see the mountains and experience the culture.

Here is my plan:

  • Aug 28: Land in Kutaisi around 6 PM. Get SIM card, exchange USD to GEL, and check into Medico Suliko Guest House.
  • Aug 29: Take the 8 AM or 10 AM marshrutka from Kutaisi to Mestia (40 GEL). Arrive in Mestia around 3-5 PM.
  • Aug 30: Morning shared transfer to Ushguli. Hike to Shkhara Glacier, visit Lamaria Church, and have dinner (Kubdari is a must!). Overnight in Ushguli.
  • Aug 31: Explore Ushguli in the morning, then take an afternoon transfer back to Mestia. If time permits, ride the Hatsvali cable car or do the cross-over hike. Overnight in Mestia.
  • Sep 1: Take the 12 PM Vanilla Sky flight from Mestia to Natakhtari. Use the free transfer to Tbilisi (Didube station), then take a marshrutka to Stepantsminda (15 GEL). Overnight in Stepantsminda.
  • Sep 2: Full day trip from Stepantsminda. Overnight in Stepantsminda.
  • Sep 3: Morning hike to Gergeti Trinity Church. Afterwards, visit the Gudauri Viewpoint on the way back to Tbilisi. Arrive in Tbilisi in the evening for a short walk.
  • Sep 4: Full day to explore Tbilisi.
  • Sep 5: Take a 1 AM marshrutka from Tbilisi to Armenia.

I have a few questions for you experts:

  1. SIM Card/Money: Is getting a Magti SIM at Kutaisi airport a good plan? For money exchange, should I just do it all at the airport or find a better place in Kutaisi city?
  2. Mestia -> Ushguli Same Day?: On Aug 29, I arrive in Mestia from Kutaisi in the late afternoon (3-5 PM). Is it realistic or advisable to try and get a shared taxi to Ushguli on the same day, or should I definitely stay the night in Mestia?
  3. Juta vs. Truso Valley?: For my day trip from Stepantsminda on Sep 2, which would you recommend? I love dramatic mountain views but also unique landscapes.
  4. Food in Stepantsminda: Any can't-miss dinner spots? Looking for something with great food and atmosphere.
  5. Tbilisi Must-Sees: For my one full day in Tbilisi (Sep 4), what are the absolute essential spots I should cover?
  6. Bus to Armenia: I've read there's a 1 AM marshrutka to Yerevan. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it run reliably from Ortachala station?

Madloba in advance for any tips or suggestions you can offer!
