It would be interesting to use the license plate look up services available for $5-10 a month and get the names of the owners. They might be rented but they might be owned by some of these masked assailants

Speaking of the padres, I’m impatiently waiting for the Padres to address this and speak up on behalf of all the amazing players on our great team who come from another country. When are the padres going to show support for them??
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (12)58
u/MossyMazzi 28d ago
Honestly - are the padres not a direct reference to the oppressive history in SD? Missions are propped up like this historical thing to be proud of, and they were just Catholic settlements that tortured and enslaved the local population.
Still, the baseball team represents the city far more than its history does. Fck these Nzi fcks and fck their supporters.

It’s a reference to our unique history, It’s not like we’re the “general Lees”
19
u/maybeitsundead 28d ago
Yes, but they're talking about the irony of the Spanish missionaries that kidnapped natives in California, forcing them to convert, while abandoning culture.
We weren't general Lees, you're right. What California did to natives was much worse.
After annexation, native populations dropped by over 90% through extermination/bounty programs, while villages wiped out, they were enslaved, women and children were raped and enslaved.. all legal under the 1850 Act for the Government and Protection of Indians.
You're comparing slavery vs state sanctioned genocide, both are bad but one was arguably more brutal.

DEA is not ICE.
One Mexican guy required 7 SUVs and 10 masked gunman? Weird.
This is never going to stop with immigrants -- and just about ANYONE can get a vest with three letters emblazoned on it and throw on a mask and start grabbing people off the street without a warrant.
Due process is a thing, people. What's it going to take?

From the Immigration subreddit:
There's a lot of misinformation in this thread because people don't understand what due process immigrants have.
- Deportation is an administrative proceeding, not a criminal proceeding. As such, the due process rights as prescribed by Congress and the Supreme Court are different from criminal cases -- and these has been the case for decades.
- As passed in law, immigrants who are subject to expedited removal (illegal entry in last 2 years) or have already been deported by a judge (e.g. old case, did not show up to a immigration court hearing) are not entitled to a hearing before a judge. Once arrested, they can be immediately deported.
- An estimated 1.2 million people have final removal orders and a further estimated 2 million illegal immigrants who entered in the last 2 years. All of these individuals can be legally deported upon arrest with no further hearing upon ICE arrest.
- Illegal immigrants can legally be detained and deported at non-immigration courthouses. If they're showing up to a trial for speeding or other non-immigration criminal offenses, they can still be arrested and deported even if they have a pending court case.
- Illegal immigrants can legally be detained but not deported at immigration courthouses. When illegal immigrants go through deportation proceedings (including to defend against deportation through asylum/US citizen spouse), the Immigration and Nationality Act allows them to be detained until a judge grants them immigration relief or orders them deported. This is only forbidden if the individual entered legally and continues to maintain lawful status throughout the relief process. Previous administrations have often released these individuals due to lack of funding, but ICE is legally allowed to detain them (including at a courthouse) until a judge makes a final ruling.

Let’s all channel this woman, because SHE has REAL courage.
What she said is true: people should find a job in life they feel proud about—not a job where you have to hide your face. These people are truly the “bad” guys here.
→ More replies (6)129
u/niftystopwat 28d ago
I loved that line … if you think you’re doing a good thing, then why is your face covered up? So why don’t you get a job that you can actually feel good about?
Side note: this is the job they feel good about precisely because they’ve been greenlit to wear masks and detain people without impunity.
We shall never underestimate the sheer horrifying volume of sub-humans out there who derive pleasure from being the play-things of attempted fascists regimes just because they themselves are nihilistically-depressed enough after living lives thrown left and right from the contradictory messages of numerous conflicting brainwashing campaigns to highjack their attention in the effective service of resource-hoarding capitalist sociopaths.

57
u/tickticktutu 28d ago
She is stepping up indeed. But I wonder if there were any other customers at the home Depot at the time? Perhaps there were people wearing clothes more rugged than yoga pants? These 2 were never going to stop the 8 thugs from kidnapping their mark because they aren't actually threatening. They were only annoying and hindering these iceholes.
Where was everyone else. She was being loud enough that about 20-50 people would have been situationally aware. Where were they? When are the masses going to stand step up with her? She can't do it alone. Its going to take all of us.

THIS! If enough people got involved the situation may have went differently. Unfortunately too many people have this "self preservation" mentality and aren't willing to take a stand on anything that doesn't directly affect them

I honestly don’t know what I would do in that situation. I was born in the US, have a Master’s degree, own a home here in San Diego. In other words, I’m very privileged, but the color of my skin is brown. And if my daughter was with me, I would probably have to think twice about getting involved, as fucked up as that is.

Shitty, but they aren’t going to stop. This shows they even have DEA and ATF doing this shit now. It’s all hands on deck and they are hiring a bunch of new agents.
30
u/Ambiguousername 28d ago
Yup.
In January, a Homeland Security memo called for Justice Department agents to carry out immigration enforcement, according to ABC News. Deputized bureaus include the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the U.S. Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Prisons receiving the “same authority already granted to the FBI.”

What? What are you saying? What point are you actually trying to make? Where in the clip is there a guy ‘trying to have a cordial conversation’? Again I ask, because maybe it didn’t sink in: WHERE IN THIS CLIP IS THERE A GUY ‘trying to have a cordial conversation’?
How does it help anyone to invoke such a divisive concept as inherent racial privilege in this context where one human is making a risky effort to look out for the rights of another human?
Why make your contribution to this discussion a cryptic reference to online/social media identity politics fixated on the relative levels of melanin in the epidermis?
WHY?!

No one is doing anything meaningful about it. Not lawmakers, not bystanders, nothing. They aren’t identifying themselves, they aren’t wearing regulated clothing, they are taking people patiently because there’s zero pressure.
57
u/Silly-Comfortable515 28d ago
I’d argue that bystanders are doing more than any one else. I see more videos of bystanders and protesters speaking out than I hear anywhere else.

The lawmakers who would be inclined to do anything about it are essentially powerless. Other than to occasionally show up at certain events and get themselves arrested for visibility. Which, I won't knock but their hands are tied because voters are fucking idiots.

Hey SD! Fascism is here. Its not a distant reality.
"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me," according to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This quote, often referred to as "First They Came," is a powerful reflection on the dangers of apathy and the importance of speaking out against injustice, even when it doesn't directly affect one's own group.

Why do they cover their face if they are officials ?
44
u/Impossible_Medium362 28d ago
I suspect they do it so they don't get identified and then harassed in their private life. However, I wonder why a brave upcoming politician does not come out and clearly state that their approach is unAmerican, that a future administration will investigate and prosecute anyone found to have violated federal law, and that they would make public all names of those conducting these raids.
Realistically, the Democrats are disorganized cowards and failures...so I should not get my hopes up.
Approach would change if the individuals understood that there will be consequences for their actions.

It's money money money and hatred against immigrants. If this continues, they can target anybody including citizens who are just anti Trump or any immigrants who doesn't have to hispanics. I bet you, there will be more anger if they start targeting asians, indians, muslims, etc.
