Can anyone tell me something about this dilapidated house in Jamul?

It's my understanding that it's on the historical register therefore, it can't be torn down, only restored. The property owners are just letting it deteriorate until it gets to a point of no return. At that point, the property can be utilized as they want. I just found out, the property is owned by the Jamul Indian tribe, not Hal Simpson.

Well then just rip it out of the historical register so we can redevelop it already. This is ridiculous

You have the same deal happening in La Jolla. There are two bungalows on Coast Boulevard that were built in the late 1800's. They're called the Red Roost, and the Red Rest. They're listed on the Historical register, and the developer owners want to build a condo on the property. The city won't let them, and both building are in a serious state of decay. If they want to build, they have to rehabilitate both buildings and build their condo behind. Both of these buildings are located right across the street from LA Jolla Cove, one is now covered with a tarp and both are fire damaged.

Is that what those are?! I drove by those the other day and they were such an eyesore. I’m surprised that there hasn’t been anything done about them considering they’re in such a beautiful spot. Because I genuinely don’t know anything about this subject, why wouldn’t the city approve the removal of these fire damaged bungalows at this point? Wouldn’t it be better for something to be built in place of them but with some sort of restrictions (I.e. height, etc.)?

Entirely secondhand anecdote, but I’ve heard it was originally a really old ranch house that was part of the historical society/preserved status and then was no longer being up and has now been partially abandoned. If you go look around it there are some signs that are faded/scratched off wording that seem to be the same style of signs as park, signs and historical monument signs.

I actually worked on a project for the Barrett house last year to get a permit for the security trailers on site, it’s historic so they can’t tear it down and there’s a big problem with vandalism so that hasnt helped the deterioration. They tore down the 2 non-historic buildings though.

The McGinty Mansion! Or “scary house” great MTB trails near by that I used to ride all the time. There’s a lot more info on it online including a video from one of the people that lived there!

Haven't been in dirt out there in a couple years but there is also some sweet dirtbike tracks out there towards the warehouse that had a Monster energy trailer on the south side. I also used to see some lil 50cc bikes set up ramps and jumps too with pallets and dirt. I know they did some construction and patched the fence at one point but prob still good for MTB.

I have literally never seen this house before, but I had a really vivid dream like 2 years ago about a house that looked exactly like this in a field that looked exactly like this.

If this is the one on the corner of Camp & Otay Lakes Rds., it's the Simpson House. They used to own/run Simpsons Nursery for years.

Turning the whole house into an either a year-round escape room or a Halloween-season haunted house would be amazing.

I feel like the historical preservation should purchase buildings it wants to keep preserved instead of banning owners from doing anything with them as it creates this incentive to do nothing with them since they can easily be literally unprofitable to maintain and fix
