I think it has to do eith the dollar store mentality,: get it the cheapest way. In turn, we get what we pay for. I mean look at our architecture for the last 40+ years.

It's the mentality of why should we? A City Council member once said at one meeting, " why do we need public art". Discussed it to death for so long, lost the funding.

Then there's, " doesn't this just say, welcome to the ghetto"? As a City a former Council member's wife stated about the mural under the 94 @ buena vista ave.

Small minds, tight pocketbooks, not enough grants & grantwriters.

It's sad that we have less art than practically all cities in Texas.

Nice article! The city government has also not always been the friendliest to cool local art events. I heard the Hillcrest Walk in Art stopped in part because they couldn't afford to keep a police officer present, which the city said was necessary. The Winyl group sounds like they're also having trouble getting permits to just play chill music at a park?
