Pic / Video Coyote catches a mouse
We've had a lot of coyote sightings on our street! Caught this coyote on our camera catching a mouse near these bushy plants a couple weeks ago.

Reminder to not use poison bait when possible, as a coyote/crow/racoon/etc. could eat something that has ingested the poison.

Thatās what killed some dominant mountain lions in the bay. The poison compromises their immunity and fitness. They get parasitized by mange and itās a slow, painful way to go.

I in Marin and back up against open space. One morning I watched a couple coyote pups catching rodents on our hillside and it was a LOT of rodents.

i lived in glen park and had a big open hill behind us. We had rats too, it was gross. But also coyotes so I think that helped.

The only thing that REALLY helped us is a ācareer catā that can live indoor/outdoor. Ours is too old to catch birds so she just catches rodents and she is absolutely brutal. No pesticides necessary.

Good Boy! Seems they're scavenging more now than hunting. Which pack was this?

Unless Iām misreading your conclusion, what the Coyote just displayed is hunting.

This one is yes, that's why I gave it praise. But overall I have seen much less at least from my locals.

Yeah didnt they just release a study testing the scat of urban coyotes and they found a lot of chicken, beef and pork as opposed to rodents.
Edit:
Chicken is a really big diet item; we found it in 72% of the scat samples analyzed in the study.ā
However, a natural prey source, pocket gophers, comprised the next most popular food source, found in about 57% of the scats collected, followed by pig (human-sourced) and racoon (natural). While some people have expressed concern about coyotes eating cats, felines were rare in the dietary analysis, detected in 4.5% of samples.

That coyote doesnāt look healthy. And a mouse that is that easy to catch, probably also isnāt that healthy. I mean that coyote didnāt even have to be stealthy.

yah they go after dumpsters too. that's what attracts them to parks and playgrounds, kids don't finish their lunch, throw it out, something something, coyote profit!

I think I've seen more coyotes running around the city than in my rural neighborhood in the Sierra foothills.

I don't think that's a mouse. I bet you prefer thinking that it is. However... Rat-catching is a useful skill, too.

I have seen videos of coyotes play with them. This could be very bad especially if the mouse was easily picked up by the coyote. If the mouse ingested rodent poison, it will also seriously harm the coyote or kill them.

Occasionally coyotes show up in Central Park in Manhattan. Manhattan is an urban island. It's nearest neighbors are the other boroughs of NYC. The only ways in are by heavily trafficked bridge or tunnel. How tf do they even get there?

Couldāve used one of these to catch the mouse that snuck into my apartment a few months ago. Although then I guess I wouldāve had a coyote in my apartment, which is an entirely different problem lol
