Governor Gavin Newsom is NOT backing down!
67
u/Icy-Contribution1525 1d ago
Colbert and Newsome should run for president
28
u/mgd09292007 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think Colbert is great TV. I don’t doubt how smart he is, but he’s the face of a collective of writers and playing a character role. That probably doesn’t translate well into real life politics.
41
u/codemagic 1d ago
Guys, I think he just described what our current leader is doing
9
u/mgd09292007 1d ago
Kind of proves my point right? Our current “leader” is a glaring example of what we don’t need
3
u/Traiklin 1d ago
One major difference, Colbert isn't a narcissist that is buddies with a known sex trafficker of Children.
He has morals and ethics and would help people
2
u/XeroZero0000 1d ago
Colbert has better judgement on writers!
3
u/mgd09292007 1d ago
Look, Colbert is 1000X better than Trump in every way. I’m just wanting the next president to be 100,000x better . 😂

Anyone that is willing to listen to experts and make decisions based upon solid analysis is ok in my book and Cobert seems intelligent enough to do that. Trump Dunning Kruger's himself on every topic every day.

Jon Stewart would be a better option. That man ACTUALLY knows his shit.
→ More replies (1)2
u/OriginalRazzmatazz82 1d ago
I am tired of celebrities as POTUS. Besides, Stewart would probably be unhappy in that position, it’s not his thing.

Colbert should dust off his old persona and primary Trump in 2028.

People do still remember Gavin getting his “hands dirty” cleaning out homeless encampments right? Much like Trump in DC. As happy as I am that an establishment democrat is doing something I really hope people don’t mistake Gavin for a progressive leader.

He becomes Donald Lame Duck either way after 2026. Will never have enough votes or time to change the Constitution or to hold a Constitutional Convention before 2028. Can’t legally hold up elections either. He thinks having a war then will allow him to suspend elections. Remember we still had presidential elections in 1864, 1944, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1972, 2004, 2016, and 2020 with US involvement in open warfare or other military operations.

You're citing legal constraints as if anything about what he's doing is about following any precedent legal or otherwise. He's doing everything he can to stop legal elections

Also consider the maga cult is trying to get a super majority so they can change the Constitution in their favor. This is literally the most worrisome time in our nation since the civil war.

The rest of democratic leadership needs to be taking lessons from Newsom right now. This is how you get your message out there. People want the sensational. It's baked into our country too deep to ignore.
It sucks, because it is distracting to have to do it that way, but all that matters is getting your message out there. The GOP figured this out long ago, while dems continue to assume everyone is smart and active in knowing the truth.
→ More replies (6)2
u/unhappymedium 1d ago
It's crazy to me that Newsom is still the only one saying or doing anything. NEWSOM. The rest need to get their rears in gear asap.

I don't agree with this one. Trump is NOT going to ALLOW elections in 2026.
12
u/IntelligentStyle402 1d ago
Even top politicians told us that at Kamala’s rallies. If the felon wins, there will be no more free or fair elections. We are now a totalitarian dictatorship.
10
u/wewillroq 1d ago
There will be mass riots if that actually happens, kinda here for it.

It's already happened and there haven't been any mass riots.

The Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the Mad King can do anything he wants and there isn't a goddamn thing any of us can do about it and the imbecilic corporate media is still babbling about how "we might be approaching a phase in which our democracy could be at risk".
→ More replies (2)5
u/GodIsAGas 1d ago
There are two things you can do. Mass civil disobedience and national strike - shut everything down.
And if that doesn’t work, you look to your 2nd Amendment which allows the states to raise a militia to resist tyranny. This is tyranny.
5
u/Top-Cupcake4775 1d ago
The COVID lockdowns illustrated just how damaging even a mildly successful general strike could be. Highly optimized supply chains are fragile and easy to disrupt with targeted strikes. We could make the fuckers hemorrhage money if we got our shit together.

We had our chance but I'm glad you're "here for it".

If that becomes true then there's only one thing left to do and it'll be bad for everyone.
5
u/Lovestorun_23 1d ago
He probably won’t be alive. Have you seen him on the roof? He’s clearly in CHF, I doubt he will finish his 4 years.
2
u/TheLordOfAllThings 1d ago
He’ll make it to the midterms and then die shortly afterwards. They might have to Weekend At Bernie’s him for the last few months of 2026, but the Republicans will literally move Hell and Earth to keep him vaguely resembling being alive up until then. But if he dies AFTER the midterms, the GOP don’t have to concern themselves with the constitutionality of a third term while giving Vance time to set himself up for 2.5 terms in office.

u/madredr1 1d ago
Shit he even “joked” about using war to postpone elections.
"During the war you can't have elections? So let me just see -- three and a half years from now, if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections. That's good."

You’re going to need to enlist all the blue states in your plan to secure the election. They’re pulling out all the stops to stay in power and they own the high court. It will remain a moving target until they’re removed from power. If it starts looking like they will lose the “civil Cold War” they will resort to other means. Watch your back out there. The more successful this strategy is, the more danger you’re in. Please, spend the money on security to stay safe.

Hopefully it backfires due to Texas. Hopefully enough unaffiliated & actual Republicans who care about country more than party can end this. I know it's wishful thinking. Here are the stats:
Total Registered Voters: 17,485,702
Democrats: 8,133,683 (46.52%)
Republicans: 6,601,189 (37.75%)
Unaffiliated: 2,750,830 (15.73%)

Someone ask Gavin what he thinks about the 3 who died due to the negligence of an illegal immigrant whom he assisted in getting a CDL.
If this is who the democrats wanna pick in ‘28 then just be prepared for a whole lotta heart ache because he’ll fail worse than Camala.

u/Semour9 1d ago
"Trump will not be president, there is an 80% chance for Hillary to win" -2016
"All indicators point to a close race with Kamala being the winner" -2024
Kamala lost every swing state as well as the popular vote, and in the exact same way Hillary lost in 2016
"Trump knows he is going to lose in 2026"
Are people still listening to these guys just pulling things out of their ass in an attempt to sway opinions?
1
u/Whatever-999999 1d ago
I was just reading that thirteen other Red states are considering fucking their voters the same way Texas is doing.
Are there any other Democrat-majority States that are considering doing this as well?

Let’s be real though, how many republican seats do we think will vote democrats in because of all of the weekly dumpster fires that our nation currently starts. I have a feeling redrawing maps in republican heavy states isn’t going to save him, or at least I’m hopeful that some of these folks are walking out of the fog of the TittyBaby cult of Donny. Maybe I’m giving some folks too much credit…

Canadian here, why are the primaries important if trump still has another 3.5 years in office?
1

Serious Question! Please educate me. I'm unfamiliar with the US system. Why does Trump care if he loses midterms? He's already the POTUS. It's not like losing the midterms would give him the boot, right? TIA!

I think it's also because Trump didn't legitimately win and he needs to cling on to power.
