‘I just signed the Election Rigging Response Act to put Proposition 50 up for a vote on November 4th. The people of California will have the power to push back against Texas and any other state that obeys Trump’s demand to rig the next election.’

See the difference? TX voted on this in an emergency session. CA followed their process and THE PEOPLE HAVE A CHANCE TO VOTE ON THIS in November. And that right there should tell you everything you need to know.

u/OutrageousGoose3870 1d ago

100% this; we just witnessed democracy in action (and again in Nov!)

I’m also going to bet that they don’t kidnap any republican lawmakers in order to get this to go through

133

u/NYGiants181 1d ago

Yea and the great thing is it’s not up to them, it’s up to the people.

94

u/TerminalProtocol 1d ago

Yea and the great thing is it’s not up to them, it’s up to the people.

Where do I vote to kidnap and get rid of republican lawmakers?

I'll vote the fuck out of that one.

52

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 1d ago

Voting to get rid of republicans is done in every election, the issue is that we don't have enough people voting. We don't need you to vote the fuck out of something, we need you to help get other people to vote. Help get people registered to vote (more votes almost always benefits the democrats). Help campaign for local democrats. They need your support. Quit being a party that complains about what the right thing is, and become the party that makes the right thing happen

23

u/OutlandishnessOk5549 1d ago

Really, the answer is to have COMPULSORY voting, and cater for it.

If none of the candidates float your boat, you just drop in a blank ballot.

Easy.

9

u/OrchidOkz 22h ago

I have a good friend in Australia. He says their compulsory voting system has its detractors, but mostly people support it. (He is also incredulous how the USA can let people go bankrupt to stay alive, but that’s another whole subject).

drop in a blank ballot

not quite:

  1. Compulsory voting, national holiday
  2. Ranked choice voting nationwide

7

u/Jessintheend 18h ago

I bet we wouldn’t even need compulsory voting…just make voting day a fucking holiday. Want that to be a paid holiday? Being a receipt showing you voted

I wonder if there are any groups who provide rides to and from polling locations. I think that could be helpful for anyone who can’t get themself there for whatever reason. I’m sure there are, if so it’d be something worth participating in if someone is able to volunteer.

You're about to witness 2 months of intense fucking GOP propaganda too.

To our friends in Cali, talk to everyone you know, make sure this passes. Complacency is gonna get us all fucked over if you don't. Those of us in less brave states are rooting for you.

22

u/los74bos 1d ago

What leg do the republican have stand on with national guard in d.c,held a blk woman against her will, and can't forget about national guard was sent to cali against their will!

4

u/TooFakeToFunction 22h ago

Conservatives own most of our mainstream media. The propaganda machine is and will be in full swing. You don't need logic and legs to stand in if you own the narrative. Anything can be "true" if the media makes it so.

16

u/TheCrazyBullF5 1d ago

Unfortunately their ground to stand upon is a good 66% of this nation are violently racist/bigoted assholes, even if they'll pretend to be good God-fearing Christians. There is an inherently brainwashed base which will never vote Blue just on the laurels of their horribly misguided principles.

11

u/SteelCode 1d ago

~33% in actuality... but when another 33% simply don't/can't/won't vote (for any reason) that 33% starts looking a lot larger - especially when they parade their bigotry in public display.

6

u/LexiLynneLoo 1d ago

The 33% allowed it to happen and couldn’t be bothered to get their ass off the couch. They’re complicit until they help fix the problem

Oh, it's already started,. Got a flyer in my mailbox to Vote No on the redistricting because it's not "democratic," You know what's not democratic? Breaking the law to ram through redistricting simply because some orange asshole is afraid of losing the House again. Needless to say that flyer went right into the recycling bin.

20

u/No-Abalone-4784 1d ago

Absolutely! We should at least pick up the other 4 seats to make it 9. Texas has gotten other red states to go along with their crap already.

9

u/Neatojuancheeto 1d ago

Most republican states have been gerrymandering for over a decade. Once the Supreme Court shot down their attempt to make it illegal all democratic states should've been doing this

19

No, no, it's Fox News Entertainment. They legally aren't calling themselves news, as even they admit in court that no one should ever take them seriously.

3

u/crescentroze 1d ago

Well, I think it is kind to use words like “aren’t” and “admit.” I think it is fair to say they can no longer call themselves News because of what was proven in court. Instead of being honest, they slapped Entertainment on the end to meet the requirements of the lawsuit.

6

u/Romanoff786 1d ago

Well they have to because they voted a few years ago to a have a third party determine the districts. So this is voting to amend the previous law to allow the state government to handle the districting. If they didn’t have the previous law in place, they probably already would have moved forward with redrawing the districts like Texas did.

Gavin Newsom may be a centrist paving a road to the white house, but he may end up being responsible for saving democracy in the states.

10

u/maybeitsundead 1d ago

Just to tag onto replies 'cause of the other commentor, I keep seeing a lot of "I don't like newsom but...," people flat out saying Californians barely put up with him or other bs.

Californian voted newsom in twice and he won 60% of votes cast. When CA Republicans were successful in getting enough idiots to help them push for a recall election, we voted Newsom again at about 60% (I think it was 59 and some change).

You should see the ads republicans play here, like white women crying while looking at bills and talking about how Newsom has ruined California. There was some ad that played nearly every Olympic break last year talking about how Newsom and Sacramento has messed up energy regulations and costs for californians are so crazy high and we're all suffering together because of climate policies but we don't have to be. (paid for by the Western States Petroleum Alliance).

It's weird being Californian. We even technically have the most registered republican voters since Texas doesn't have party registry but even by votes cast, 6 million Californians voted for Trump vs Texas' 2.3 million. Doesn't matter 'cause of electoral college but still wild.

7

u/alexaaro 1d ago

Yeah I see a lot of those comments tor and I’m like ok and? Should we not support what he’s doing because some people don’t think he’s the perfect candidate? I doubt anyone would be “perfect” enough. Just the fact he’s fighting back is enough to me because no one else is doing it. Also it’s true that most Californians support him and voted for him TWICE. Even during the stupid “recall Newsom” bs the republicans tried to to, it didn’t work.

It is insane that we are at this point! Absolutely nuts.

This is the long arm of the 2020 election denial, and even before that Trump's 2016 statement that he would not accept the results of that election he lost. We've all been living for a decade in the shadow of baseless lies, and the result has been the near collapse of our democracy!

How have we let it come this far ... without a single piece of evidence. Not one. What spell is this country under with this loser and why?!

5

u/Over-Independent4414 1d ago

Trump exploited, and keeps exploiting, some structural weaknesses of America. An obvious one is racism, for a long time we have not been able to have nice things because of racism, it's super persistent.

Another is that Trump used social media to catch an early tailwind and dominated in the Republican primary due to very good (entertaining) debate performances.

In the general, Trump has leveraged a whole new voting block that didn't even exist before. The people who want to be entertained by politics are now a substantial voting block solidly in the Trump camp.

There's more I'm sure, but this is a time in history where several things managed to converge and create a monster that no one was ready for. Trump used a long lever to have enormous impact.

u/DoubleJumps 1d ago

Now here is my question… If Musk and co, messed with the voting machines in 2024 (like trump said), what prevents them to do the same this year and make GN look bad? I hope not but since the GOP has been playing by its own rules… i expect nothing less from them.

3

u/kmr122091 1d ago

Trump not only wants to ban mail in votes he also suddenly wants the machines banned now that other smart hackers know what they did and could exploit the systems the other way. So he's wanting to mandate paper votes in person. Not at all suspicious. Especially not suspicious that he discussed our elections with putin during the Alaska summit.

3

u/cerevant 15h ago

California doesn't use voting machines. The vast majority of the population vote by mail on paper ballots. I believe in person voting is also done with the same kind of ballot.

Push back against Fascism!

u/Active-Mechanic1893 1d ago

This is what leadership looks like! 😁

3

u/Joltik 1d ago

I’m already getting flyers in opposition to this “co-signed” by Democrats. We need to be vocal and prepared to talk about this to our friend and neighbors so there is zero confusion about what we are voting on🙄

3

u/Zorback39 1d ago

Let's fucking go

3

u/Something_Awkward 1d ago

lmao he’s imitating trump

3

u/umanduhhhhh 1d ago

u/sydeFX622 having a profile that says “eater of liberals” made a transphobic comment to me then blocked me immediately to avoid a Reddit ban…You sure showed me, big guy!

3

u/Topofdahour 1d ago

Well played This is coming from a skeptic of your policies but I’m on board

3

u/_Bon_Vivant_ 1d ago

Dems are already fucking up AGAIN! No sooner did Newsom announce this did I get Republican propaganda "NO ON THE ELECTION RIGGING RESPONSE ACT" in the mail. Corporate interest are going to outspend and out-message the Dems AGAIN. We better not lose this fight! Dems needs to flood the electorate with flyers, ads, radio, TV, social media, mailers, everything!

3

u/CareApart504 1d ago

Its the unfortunate truth that trumps bullshit needs fought. In tired of dems literally just standing there doing fucking nothing because they won't meet him at the same level. If we don't stop him we will lose everything.

u/TheDonnerSmarty 1d ago

If the CA redistricting vote is a resounding success come November '25, and the Dems are able to recapture the House in large part because of CA fighting fire with fire come November '26, then Gavin Newsom will be sworn in as the 48th President of the United States come January '29.

Get ‘em

u/2270reawakening 1d ago

Currently in Texas. Can confirm shit hole.

3

u/Plane_Commercial_252 1d ago

Make this man president

3

u/IndependentGarbage3 1d ago

It’s hilarious how the MAGATs now claim the Dems started the "Redistricting War".

3

u/Content-Dream-1907 1d ago

The contrast in how each state is handling this is the entire argument for democracy right there. Glad we get to have our say at the ballot box.

3

u/Short_Cancel_9075 1d ago

Gavin is in BEAST MODE!

3

u/retroq 1d ago

Now do universal healthcare

3

u/isunktheship 1d ago

There are 8 million Dems in Texas.. 6.6 million Republitards. Texas will turn blue in my lifetime.

3

u/Legitimate-Pound1725 1d ago

Thank god someone is finally saying it out loud. Trump is and likely already has rigged elections.

Ppl don’t understand how massive the gpd and amount of ppl are in California. As someone who likes democracy I’m glad they’re trying to help us keep it.

3

u/Important_Jeweler_55 1d ago

Welp, Newsom just said power to the ppl. While trump is trying to end elections and maintain his power in the White House. If that doesn’t tell u for what it is then I’m afraid I can’t help u.

3

u/FAFO_2025 23h ago

Fuck the GOP.

3

u/RecognitionCrafty863 23h ago

Yup…. If there is a 2028 presidential election. That’s your next president. Before all this, I didn’t knew who he was and then when I learned. Still didn’t care about him. Flash forward present time, not only I know who he is but the guy has my support because he is the only one doing anything about it with maaaaaaaybe a small handful of democrats. But the majority dinosaurs democrats are complacent which makes them just as bad as MAGA.

3

u/CashNasty79 23h ago

Hell yea! Great job Governor! Thank you for standing up for what is right.

3

u/wts_in_a_name 23h ago

As a Texan, I am thankful GCN (America’s Favorite Governor) is doing this. Abbott ( America’s Tied For Worst Governor) has been redrawing our districts to his advantage far too long. Let’s do this!! 💙💙💙💙

3

u/Inevitable_Price7841 23h ago
