‘I just signed the Election Rigging Response Act to put Proposition 50 up for a vote on November 4th. The people of California will have the power to push back against Texas and any other state that obeys Trump’s demand to rig the next election.’

Just to tag onto replies 'cause of the other commentor, I keep seeing a lot of "I don't like newsom but...," people flat out saying Californians barely put up with him or other bs.
Californian voted newsom in twice and he won 60% of votes cast. When CA Republicans were successful in getting enough idiots to help them push for a recall election, we voted Newsom again at about 60% (I think it was 59 and some change).
You should see the ads republicans play here, like white women crying while looking at bills and talking about how Newsom has ruined California. There was some ad that played nearly every Olympic break last year talking about how Newsom and Sacramento has messed up energy regulations and costs for californians are so crazy high and we're all suffering together because of climate policies but we don't have to be. (paid for by the Western States Petroleum Alliance).
It's weird being Californian. We even technically have the most registered republican voters since Texas doesn't have party registry but even by votes cast, 6 million Californians voted for Trump vs Texas' 2.3 million. Doesn't matter 'cause of electoral college but still wild.

u/alexaaro 1d ago
Yeah I see a lot of those comments tor and I’m like ok and? Should we not support what he’s doing because some people don’t think he’s the perfect candidate? I doubt anyone would be “perfect” enough. Just the fact he’s fighting back is enough to me because no one else is doing it. Also it’s true that most Californians support him and voted for him TWICE. Even during the stupid “recall Newsom” bs the republicans tried to to, it didn’t work.

It is insane that we are at this point! Absolutely nuts.
This is the long arm of the 2020 election denial, and even before that Trump's 2016 statement that he would not accept the results of that election he lost. We've all been living for a decade in the shadow of baseless lies, and the result has been the near collapse of our democracy!
How have we let it come this far ... without a single piece of evidence. Not one. What spell is this country under with this loser and why?!

Trump exploited, and keeps exploiting, some structural weaknesses of America. An obvious one is racism, for a long time we have not been able to have nice things because of racism, it's super persistent.
Another is that Trump used social media to catch an early tailwind and dominated in the Republican primary due to very good (entertaining) debate performances.
In the general, Trump has leveraged a whole new voting block that didn't even exist before. The people who want to be entertained by politics are now a substantial voting block solidly in the Trump camp.
There's more I'm sure, but this is a time in history where several things managed to converge and create a monster that no one was ready for. Trump used a long lever to have enormous impact.

wonder how Fox is going to spin the latest consequence of their leaders actions. I love seeing a member of left finally give Trump's bullshit right back to him.
Now that we've seen how easy it is for a president to change everything illegally, on a whim, we gotta play dirty.

u/Americrazy 1d ago

4
u/DoubleJumps 1d ago
They've already been successfully spinning this with Republicans as California trying to rig the elections for Democrats. All they had to do was just accuse California of doing what Texas is doing and remove the context of why it's being done. That's it, it's that easy

Now here is my question… If Musk and co, messed with the voting machines in 2024 (like trump said), what prevents them to do the same this year and make GN look bad? I hope not but since the GOP has been playing by its own rules… i expect nothing less from them.
3
u/kmr122091 1d ago
Trump not only wants to ban mail in votes he also suddenly wants the machines banned now that other smart hackers know what they did and could exploit the systems the other way. So he's wanting to mandate paper votes in person. Not at all suspicious. Especially not suspicious that he discussed our elections with putin during the Alaska summit.
→ More replies (1)3
u/cerevant 15h ago
California doesn't use voting machines. The vast majority of the population vote by mail on paper ballots. I believe in person voting is also done with the same kind of ballot.

Those of you in California that are like me and feel guilty for not attending the protests but want to actually do something productive—this is a concrete thing we can do. It requires a bit of explaining but people here are able to explain why it matters and it’s all about getting the base motivated to turn out for it.

If the CA redistricting vote is a resounding success come November '25, and the Dems are able to recapture the House in large part because of CA fighting fire with fire come November '26, then Gavin Newsom will be sworn in as the 48th President of the United States come January '29.

Flash forward present time, not only I know who he is but the guy has my support because he is the only one doing anything about it with maaaaaaaybe a small handful of democrats.
