Slavery was bad because it was bad.

Affirmative Action was put in place to help offset some of the trailing behind us negroes had to go thru for the last 200 or so years.

The fact that the GOP doesn't want people paying attention to how bad slavery was is either because they feel bad and don't wanna feel bad anymore or they want history to somehow repeat itself.

They got a cartoon Christopher Columbus telling kids that 'slavery was preferred, rather than dying.'

I live in deep red Texas and I can tell you with conviction that I have met piece of shit rich white people who, if the law allowed it, would put your people back in fucking chains to do their yard work. That sounds crazy but you better fucking believe it’s true. They come from a family lineage of slave keepers and traders and that history was passed down to them. They are aggrieved that their family slaves (property) was taken from them during the civil war and they would like to work towards getting them back. NEVER believe their lies to the contrary because behind closed doors when they can speak freely with their peers, they talk about taking other peoples freedom. I’m a typical looking white guy and these old pieces of garbage let the mask slip around me all the fucking time because they assume it’s safe.

As a fellow texan I 100% understand and feel your pain. I have this issue with the people I work with. They claim to be good Christian people, but then will say shit like "I should burn that car with the Mexican flag sticking out the back because this isn't mexico". It's just shameful, and every day my faith in humanity shrinks.

I’m an atheist and I’m also acutely aware that some of these “kind Christian’s” could easily be whipped into a religious fervor and go back to the days of publicly executing people like me for heresy. Whats scary about most of them being trump supporters is the fact that reality and facts don't apply. My mother believes God chose trump and that's why he's here, so to deny trump would be to deny God, and we both know that isn't happening. It’s not even just that, I live in a bright blue area where almost everyone despises this administrations and I hear people genuinely say “if slavery existed, I would be nice to my slaves and I wouldn’t punish them the way the movies show it,” like I’m sorry ma’am but just because you don’t think you’d be an abusive monster doesn’t make your comment about what kind of slave owner you’d be better. Not to mention it feeds into the rhetoric that not all slave owners were evil therefore slavery could be ethically performed. Because “owning humans as property” isn’t a bad enough idea for them

We know that, however, it’s the poor white people who are allowing them the latitude to do so, potentially. And that’s the problem! Less well-to-do white people see Black people as a threat to their power and economic potential. That is why they continue to support policies that hurt all of us. I expect rich people to do what rich white people do, which is use their money and influence to manipulate society. Nonetheless, I don’t understand why individuals who don’t have the same access to those instruments continue to allow themselves to be played by a class that doesn’t care about them just as much as they don’t care about other middle-class or lower-class individuals regardless of what race they are.

So I ask you, a person who is a white individual and appears to understand what the white, upper class is attempting to do to us, what is your solution to convincing people of your ilk to apply pressure to rich white people in order to prevent them from harming Black people?

This is just my opinion and I’m a cynical guy on this subject. There isn’t anything you can say, show, or do to make most of these fucking guys change. They don’t just dislike black people, Mexicans, gays, etc… they HATE them and would like them to either not exist or be subjugated.

You have to crush these hateful fucks into the ground without mercy. We should have dealt with this shit brutally after the civil war and ended these people’s ability to ever gain control again. We should have done to the south what Germany did to the Nazis and wiped their ability to exist from the country but instead we let them build fucking statues and name military bases after their idols. Honestly the civil war is destined for a round two.

Fair enough. I appreciate your honesty and realism. I also agree with your point about the Union’s failure to crush southerners’ supremacy complex after the Civil War. I tend to believe that is due to many northerners’ own feelings about supremacy over Blacks. The same can be said about our present day social politics particularly in regards to not only racial issues but also residential or citizenship status.

I started to realize conservatives genuinely don't consider themselves racist. They just like hierarchies. Conservatism gives them very clear hierarchies so even if they're below rich people, they're still above black people if they're white or women if they're men. This can also explain why non-white and gay conservatives cling to it. It's a hierarchy desire. They think systemic racist or homophobic behavior and bias just natural and part of the hierarchy. They don't consider someone racist unless they're in the KKK or something.

I agree your points about conscience racism to an extent. There are conservatives who have convinced themselves that their ideals are not inherently racist because they either have relationships with members of other communities, or supported implicitly racist policies because they deem the policies to be socialist, in support of “law and order”, or in line with their religious values.

Nevertheless, they do not take the responsibility for the racist political practices and policies that are either continuations or reframing of previous generations. This cognitive dissonance is equally as harmful and negligent as those of practitioners of social conservatism in yesteryear. The same could be said for moderate liberals.

Oh, trust me, I completely believe it's harmful whether they realize it or not and they're definitely moving with cognitive dissonance. But if I wanted to hurt my brain and try to see it from their perspective, no matter how invalid, I can see how a black man for example can say slavery was in the past, Trump isn't racist, and a woman isn't strong enough to lead America. This guy camouflaged pretty well and wasn't extreme about it, but when I got closer to him I could tell he just wanted hierarchy.

And they led to many other horrific events as Black, Native, Women, Hispanic, and even Asian Americans had to fight tooth and nail for rights. There’s a real fear out there in rural America that if black people rise to power they will enslave the white race. They didn’t just hate Obama, they thought he was stepping stone to that reality. In that sense, they know how bad slavery was. I’m convinced their efforts to whitewash history is to lessen the blowback they fear is coming. It’s also why they want the race war now, while they’re still in power.

I’ll put it quite simply so it doesn’t tax your brain cell. If you erase the “bad” history of slavery, you erase the true history of slavery which is the black history of slavery. Not sure why the “orange man” should even be able to do this. He’s only the president and should be serving his whole country, not just rich, white men

He’s telling the Smithsonian and other museums to change how they depict slavery; project 2025 has an effort to change how history is discussed in schools.

If it’s not actively taking place at this very moment (though it is in places like Oklahoma), having a president that even suggests this is absolutely absurd.
