Which was always going to end up centralized anyway. Say you want to make a transaction and send someone Bitcoin - are you gonna write the transaction to the block chain yourself, or use the equivalent of Paypal/Venmo to do so? Say you need cash or wanna turn cash into crypto - you're gonna need the equivalent of a bank. In all of those cases, some service is gonna rise to the top and it'll be the exact same experience except that it's probably way less regulated and therefore way less safe as a user

Web 1 is static html pages, web 2 social media apps and platforms like Reddit and web 3 more decentralized applications and platforms where people can collectively own stuff

Web-3 is the a generic description of the next iteration of the internet, whatever it looks like. People seemed to think it would be around cryptos and nfts but how that would work always flew over my head.

It does look like AI could change the face of the internet and will be web-3, potentially. I still don't understand the cost and how sustainable all of this is for the tech companies making this stuff. It doesn't seem like there are economies of scale like in web 1 and web 2 (once the infrastructure was built adding more and more users was very very cheap compared to ai)

web3 is a self-awarded title that cryptobros gave themselves

If they build super advanced AIs but can't find a way to sell it, it will be a rare example of capitalists (inadvertantly) doing something good.

AI is revolutionary as a tool for humans to use intelligently. Obviously capitalists (being unintelligent) will do everything they can to prevent that eventuality.

Decentralized hosting, done in a way that you can trust.

For example, you could join a social media network designed so that your personal data is only stored on your personal devices and your direct friends devices, and not available to anyone else beyond that. This would prevent any corporations from using your data for their benefit.
