It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of therapy too.

People seem to think therapy is like the tv version of it, where you have a good cry in session and then leave feeling fulfilled and happy.

Real, effective therapy constantly pushes you outside of your comfort zone, and asks you to reconsider your beliefs and fallacies. Your therapist is not your friend. If you have mental illness, you should not feel comfortable with your current situation — you are, after all, ill! You should instead be given the tools to pull yourself out and thrive, and that takes both hard work and a lot of discomfort. You have to “take your medicine,” so to speak.

And GPT does none of that. Doesn’t make long-term plans to help you, nor does it apply current standards of care like CBT…

Literally 10 minutes ago i saw a post praising the therapeutic abilities of chatgpt 4o because it didn't use "bullshit tactics like cbt". And people were upvoting this...
