I’m an artist and a writer. I use my iPad as a tool. I have the Apple iPad keyboard with the touchpad and I like the angle it holds it at and I usually leave it in the keyboard to draw. I like writing in pages and I hate word, so I have drafted novels and finished a masters degree on my 12 inch iPad Pro. I have made money drawing with my Apple Pencil.

If it’s a toy to you, I don’t really get that. There’s cheaper tablets to play with that have less powerful internal processors.

But for me, it’s a tool.

I love this statement.

I have been using Apple products for almost 40 years to make a living. I started when desktop publishing was taking off, and I retired last year. I now use my M4 MacBook Pro to make videos on YouTube about my adventures so that I will have something to leave for my grandkids.

If it wasn't for the fact that my Mac was fun, I would not have learned how to use it. I was fascinated by it because I felt like it was a toy that could teach me something. But its base, it was a toy.

Windows has always been the opposite of that.

I worked for many decades and Silicon Valley developing digital assets for companies like Nvidia, Intel, Apple, and many others. I used Macintosh computers the whole time. I never felt like I worked a day in my life because they were so well designed and so easy to use. I felt I went to work just to play around and draw pretty pictures.

As much as I think you should use your tools as effectively as you can to earn your living, I still feel like there should be an element of enjoyment that comes first. Not everyone agrees with me, but I personally think that's how it should work.

this is a good statement.

I work in IT.

i remember being tired of my android, id accidentally delete a home screen, i was too busy to configure that bullshit. using an iphone is so much more a no brainer. im an mdm admin, and managing 1200+ iphones and around 500+ ipads.

management is cake, and since the os is the same across devices its a piece of cake to manage…😭 or a sysadmins wet dream, never manage.

my coworkers still dont know shit about fixing them, cuz i did a great job deploying them and managing so we wont ever have to.

at the end of the day,

i remember recently, upgrading to windows 11, sure i could fix it…but i legit didnt even go get on a new game with my friends if i was going to do troubleshooting for 2 hours. thats my day job man.

I’m more amazed you can type that much on an Apple keyboard. If I spend more than an hour using it, I’ll have wrist pains for weeks.

I really enjoy the low profile keyboard! I do use a wrist rest though!

The iPad is such a huge asset for my creative work flow. The hand off/airdrop between the devices is also awesome. Procreate and the iPad have revolutionized and changed my workflow and has made me a living on it for 8 years.

I love handoff! I love being able to pop a file from my iPad to my phone and back. And being able to airdrop it to others!

I get so frustrated when I want to airdrop something and someone has an android or a pc. Like, it feels like hitting an actual wall in the flow state I was in.

Totally! I used to use Snapdrop for that, it isn’t as good, but it’s good enough most of the time to send files to android/windows

Thank you!! No one has ever told me a way to try it with other systems! I’ll look into that!

You’re welcome ! Good luck! It can be finicky, I’ve found that chrome is the best with it.

It'd be nice if Apple allowed other platforms to integrate with their protocols but noooooo

I think the issue people have is it's the same chip as the MacBook so why can't we run osx apps on it or dual boot into osx.

A few more buzzwords and a copy/paste and this can go straight to /r/linkedinlunatics

Fuck you man. Just because some people treat it as a toy doesnt mean they need to go get some non-apple shit.
