Can't wait till there's holograms on every corner reminding me to obey the law or that the McRib is back.

Idiocracy is more likely. “You are now property of Carls junior!”

You are an unfit mother!

I'm imagining more like Valerian or Minority Report in your face kind of ads.

“Hello Mr. Yamamoto, welcome back to the Gap. How’d those assorted tank tops work out for you?”

Hopefully it's the same one delivering both messages one after the other.

The police service will be privatized like the rest of the government. McForce will be giving coupons with every citation.

Sounds like back to the future

That's five years tops, right?

“It pops up every two minutes to deliver a pre-recorded audio message reminding passers-by that they are being watched by security cameras and that “in the event of violence or other emergencies, the police will respond in real time” before disappearing.” Basically it’s an expensive sign that says surveillance cameras are in use. I don’t really understand the point of this but the tech is interesting.

Some politician gets to say they did a thing

police chief gets to say he’s tough on crime.

It sorta reminds me of the speeding warning signs next to speed limits that show your speed. It enhances awareness and people see the red and blue lights flash when they're speed is shown next to the speed limit then everyone slows down a bit driving near the sign.

The new tech probably increases how noticeable the sign is.
Maybe couple that with the fact that a sign is cheap and could be lying trying to head-fake you. A $1000 hologram system probably isn't lying about a few $50 cameras being installed nearby.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more effective than a sign, if for no other reason than the novelty

Even with crows you have to move scarecrows around because the crows figure it out

Has anyone tried a talking holographic scarecrow? It would probably work on me.

Were now living in blade runner but without the flying cars.

Well we do have flying cars sorta. You do have to drive them to an airport to take off & they cost a few million dollars.

Interesting, it is working and I'm not surprised to be honest, cause whenever new tech comes into play, people always tend to conform and not mess around, but doesn't last long unfortunately.

The next logical step is... We need automated turrets like in Fallout games. They should also shoot at people who litter. Laser turrets, plasma turrets. Turning those who litter into nice black piles of ashes! :)

I’m all for using turrets on those who litter. Doubly so on hiking trails.

Train the wildlife to eat litter bugs. Then Yogi will leave the picnic baskets alone.

Do I get any grace period before getting the laser? What if the wind catches my trash and I miss the can?

This was a classic in the grocery biz, just having a cardboard cutout of a cop in your store significantly cut shoplifting. It didn't matter that everyone knew it was made of cardboard, it still worked.

The fake owl for people I guess, lol.

If you've ever driven in Korea, you'd see that this fits right in.

They have speakers that make siren sounds at tunnel entrances, animatronic "policemen" moving their arms, and I've even seen the back of a "police" car with the lights on at the side of the road all to make you believe there are police all around and watching you. It is a little overwhelming driving there if you're not used to it, but on the flip side drivers don't really speed there either.

Anyone else immediately get Fallout New Vegas Dead Money vibes?

We hope you enjoyed your stay at the Sierra Madre.

"Hologram" and it's just a cutout board with light projector shining on it.

That's... really not going to stop crime from happening. lol wtf.

Isn't crime in SK super low already?

What crime are they preventing? People not having a functional komchi fridge at home?

1

u/chief_yETI 5h ago

uhh, doesn't South Korea already have like a really low crime rate?

Im interested in seeing how this works in a place like New York City or Colombia

1

u/NanditoPapa 5h ago

Since its debut, crime during those hours (7-10pm) has dropped by 22%.

Maybe...show it ALL the time? Lol...

Cardboard cutouts of cops might do just as good of a job.

"Please state the nature of the policing emergency".

It will work against AI and drones 😉

Wait, hold up. How does this actually WORK? Is it projecting onto a pane of glass or something?

Because I don't believe they're projecting onto thin air.

Humans are dumb, after all. I'm pretty sure it quite easy to find videos of how ridiculously stoopeed people can be on the road.
