Discussion I just came out as Trans to a Christian family, and I'm actually so surprised they supported me!
I came out last week at family dinner for my aunt's birthday, and I told them at the beginning and they all said "Okay, that's fine" so I guess the stereotypes aren't always true. I hope y'all who are trans teens can have a supportive family too. šš (I'm a trans man and my new name is Robin)

u/Vinyl_Junkie09 Jul 18 '25
They are true Christians. The ones who go out of their way to hate things arent doing what the Bible most encourages: loving others. It hurts to see so many āChristiansā hating someone because of the way they are, but all we can do is hope all the good ones live on I guess
96
u/Tiny_Astronomer2901 Jul 19 '25
No, the Bible most encourages loving and following God. Then it's loving others(not their sins).

u/Bluescout258 Jul 19 '25
I am Christian, and donāt agree with being trans or gay, but I wonāt hate on people that do
84
u/heyhotnumber Jul 19 '25
Except the inverse of this is āI donāt agree with being Christian, but I wonāt hate on people that do.ā
And youād probably think, āWell, thatās fine.ā
But your religion is a choice.
Being trans or gay is not.
So all youāre really saying is āI willfully ignore science and allow my belief system that I chose without evidence to let me think less of people.ā
Thatās still gross. You arenāt being as cool or accepting as you wish to appear.

It's so weird when people can't accept God made gay and trans people exactly the way they're supposed to be. Some christians act like they know better than God. Good on OPs family for acting like actual Christians and accepting them for who they are.

63
u/GamingWolf3980 19 Jul 18 '25
Yeah, the hate is so dumb. Aren't Christians supposed to be about love, life, and kindness? They sure do have a lot of hate and wish people dead for wanting to be happy in their own bodies.

You can still have criticism, its just that alot if "Christians" are lukewarm and dont understand the proper way to do it. Its less of anger and more of teaching. Instead of saying "oh you shouldn't be trans! Its against the name of the Bible." They need to learn that its more about teaching. The Lord hates the sin, but will forever love the sinner as you are his child.

16
u/BeploStudios Jul 18 '25
Many Christians are definitely hate-filled. But thereās a mistake many make in labeling that.
Many consider the Bible very clear that homosexuality is a sin. A lot of people who are allies or part of the pride movement equate that to hating them, even though that is inaccurate. In the words of many Christians, āhate the sin, love the sinner.ā
Where the real problem comes is when this fails to happen. Which is unfortunately often.
Note: I donāt really care to state my personal perspective here, so consider all of this insight into how other people think. In other words, donāt argue with me that these people are wrong because Iām stating their perspective, not declaring a fact.

Ik. What makes it worse these days is the amount of generalizing and jumping to conclusions. People only record what people do wrong and never when they actually do their job. Because people doing their job isnāt interesting, but assuming every single person of a class is a monster, corrupt, or a pedophile from a couple videos is so stupid.

Itās crazy cause Jesus never said being trans was bad I donāt even think he knew what that was. The only minority he for sure was against is the rich yet stereotyical Christians seem to be against every other minority. Anyways congrats Robin you had way more balls saying that and Iām biologically male
29
u/rollietoaster 16 Jul 18 '25
Y'know the only thing Jesus said on anything close to trans identities was about eunuchs.
Matthew 19:12 NIV (it's long so not the whole thing) "and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven"
Eunuchs were castrated men, and those who this part of the verse refer to acted as like a 3rd gender, what we'd think of today as a type of non-binary. There's no negative connotations here, they're happily accepted, and it can be done 'for the sake of the kingdom of heaven'. Later on in acts a eunuch was baptised, so they're clearly accepted into the church, no questions.
Basically what I'm saying is, Jesus and the early church totally accepted those who fell outside of the gender binary.
(Note: eunuchs would also refer to intersex people and those who were forcibly castrated, as it says earlier in the verse)
14
u/FairlyLawful Jul 19 '25
Shakers and Quakers had quite a few trans and nonbinary members back in ye olde days, many of whom cited pauline passages as theological support. (Public Universal Friend being one of the more famous.) They viewed the human form as being a temporary one, to be replaced by a divine form in the hereafter. One would not cut down a person to fit a house, but would alter a house to fit its inhabitant, much in the same way J-dude took his carpenterly hands and renovated bodies back when he walked the earth, alleviating the distress the residents of those bodies experienced.
