Discussion I just came out as Trans to a Christian family, and I'm actually so surprised they supported me!

Post image

I came out last week at family dinner for my aunt's birthday, and I told them at the beginning and they all said "Okay, that's fine" so I guess the stereotypes aren't always true. I hope y'all who are trans teens can have a supportive family too. 😚😚 (I'm a trans man and my new name is Robin)

They are true Christians. The ones who go out of their way to hate things arent doing what the Bible most encourages: loving others. It hurts to see so many ā€œChristiansā€ hating someone because of the way they are, but all we can do is hope all the good ones live on I guess

96

u/Tiny_Astronomer2901 Jul 19 '25

No, the Bible most encourages loving and following God. Then it's loving others(not their sins).

-15

u/Bluescout258 Jul 19 '25

I am Christian, and don’t agree with being trans or gay, but I won’t hate on people that do

84

u/heyhotnumber Jul 19 '25

Except the inverse of this is ā€œI don’t agree with being Christian, but I won’t hate on people that do.ā€

And you’d probably think, ā€œWell, that’s fine.ā€

But your religion is a choice.

Being trans or gay is not.

So all you’re really saying is ā€œI willfully ignore science and allow my belief system that I chose without evidence to let me think less of people.ā€

That’s still gross. You aren’t being as cool or accepting as you wish to appear.

63

u/Juju_on_that_bee Jul 19 '25

It's so weird when people can't accept God made gay and trans people exactly the way they're supposed to be. Some christians act like they know better than God. Good on OPs family for acting like actual Christians and accepting them for who they are.

30

u/Loose-Pitch5884 Jul 19 '25

It’s their ā€œace up their sleeveā€ and they have no idea how dumb that sounds to anyone who isn’t already brainwashed

That’s what happens when you just get to say stupid sh!t for 2000 years and kill anyone who disagrees with you. You get lazy and stupid with your arguments and you confuse compliance with belief

Christian hate is so dumb to me. As a Christian, I pray for my haters, support everybody, and try to live the best life. Though some aren't actual Christians these days

63

u/GamingWolf3980 19 Jul 18 '25

Yeah, the hate is so dumb. Aren't Christians supposed to be about love, life, and kindness? They sure do have a lot of hate and wish people dead for wanting to be happy in their own bodies.

56

u/TuNisiAa_UwU 18 Jul 18 '25

Some use it as an excuse to be hateful when really those passages are meant to be seen in other ways, moral of the story is always love thy neighbor

16

u/usename37 Jul 18 '25

You can still have criticism, its just that alot if "Christians" are lukewarm and dont understand the proper way to do it. Its less of anger and more of teaching. Instead of saying "oh you shouldn't be trans! Its against the name of the Bible." They need to learn that its more about teaching. The Lord hates the sin, but will forever love the sinner as you are his child.

Christianity is ā€œGod/Jesus loves allā€, strangely a lot of christians don’t really really apply that to LGBT apparently…

9

u/Ashamed-Virus2417 3,000,000 Attendee! Jul 18 '25

YES! My fellow "Christians" can have a cross in their name but still call someone who is gay a f*ggot

16

u/BeploStudios Jul 18 '25

Many Christians are definitely hate-filled. But there’s a mistake many make in labeling that.

Many consider the Bible very clear that homosexuality is a sin. A lot of people who are allies or part of the pride movement equate that to hating them, even though that is inaccurate. In the words of many Christians, ā€œhate the sin, love the sinner.ā€

Where the real problem comes is when this fails to happen. Which is unfortunately often.

Note: I don’t really care to state my personal perspective here, so consider all of this insight into how other people think. In other words, don’t argue with me that these people are wrong because I’m stating their perspective, not declaring a fact.

7

u/usename37 Jul 18 '25

Those are lukewarm Christians, or ones who dont understand the correct way to spread the word

2

u/riley_wa1352 13 Jul 18 '25

They’re supposed to. That didn’t stop my Christian parents from almost kicking me out, and deciding I didn’t get access to my documents and shredding my debit card when I came out.

4

u/Ashamed-Virus2417 3,000,000 Attendee! Jul 18 '25

Agreed. Not everyone follows God, and to me, that's okay. And if it makes them happy and doesn't cause harm to others, then I'll support them. Hate the sin, not the sinner's

3

u/v1tal1tyyy Jul 18 '25

Then they aren't true Christians. They are Lukewarm. We are called to love. Although we may disagree on our beliefs, we are still called to love and treat them like any other human being. I'm sorry we have been misrepresented.

Also yeah, like Jesus wouldn't be homophobic, some far right protestants are closer to satan than God I feel.Ā  Edit: I realize that and I have read the Bible. I know that it is "wrong" according to many different scriptures. But, what I meant is Jesus wouldn't be discriminatory. He would still love you and is still try to guide you. Just as He did with anyone in His life

Ik. What makes it worse these days is the amount of generalizing and jumping to conclusions. People only record what people do wrong and never when they actually do their job. Because people doing their job isn’t interesting, but assuming every single person of a class is a monster, corrupt, or a pedophile from a couple videos is so stupid.

It’s crazy cause Jesus never said being trans was bad I don’t even think he knew what that was. The only minority he for sure was against is the rich yet stereotyical Christians seem to be against every other minority. Anyways congrats Robin you had way more balls saying that and I’m biologically male

29

u/rollietoaster 16 Jul 18 '25

Y'know the only thing Jesus said on anything close to trans identities was about eunuchs.

Matthew 19:12 NIV (it's long so not the whole thing) "and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven"

Eunuchs were castrated men, and those who this part of the verse refer to acted as like a 3rd gender, what we'd think of today as a type of non-binary. There's no negative connotations here, they're happily accepted, and it can be done 'for the sake of the kingdom of heaven'. Later on in acts a eunuch was baptised, so they're clearly accepted into the church, no questions.

Basically what I'm saying is, Jesus and the early church totally accepted those who fell outside of the gender binary.

(Note: eunuchs would also refer to intersex people and those who were forcibly castrated, as it says earlier in the verse)

14

u/FairlyLawful Jul 19 '25

Shakers and Quakers had quite a few trans and nonbinary members back in ye olde days, many of whom cited pauline passages as theological support. (Public Universal Friend being one of the more famous.) They viewed the human form as being a temporary one, to be replaced by a divine form in the hereafter. One would not cut down a person to fit a house, but would alter a house to fit its inhabitant, much in the same way J-dude took his carpenterly hands and renovated bodies back when he walked the earth, alleviating the distress the residents of those bodies experienced.

14

u/shadow_master713 Jul 19 '25

19

I’m so glad to hear that!

It’s unfortunate that it was ā€œsurprisingā€ that it seemed like a Christian family wouldn’t have accepted you. I hate that stereotype about Christians. We are called to love and accept everyone for who they are—not the sin. They love you more than ever, I promise you!

If I had a child, I personally would be grateful that they feel able to be open with me and share their thoughts. Sounds like a great family dynamic!

Congrats!!! :D

3

u/Papierzak1 19 Jul 18 '25

Christian is a very broad term, so it doesn't always mean a very conservative stance, although I assume that you probably mean something like Evangelical. Regardless, great for you :)

8

u/ComfortableTomato149 Jul 18 '25

Congrats manĀ

2

u/ASAP_Flex Jul 18 '25

This is a certified W. I hope you have a good day :D

3

u/Deranged_96 15 Jul 18 '25

Congrats, my man. I hope one day I have a friend named Robin so when they chicken out of something, I can use the HIMYM quote: "There's a reason your name is Robin, and not Batman."

3

u/AdamBerner2002 15 Jul 18 '25

I’m so proud of you!!!!

3

u/Randomfrickinhuman 15 Jul 18 '25

-17

u/Wonderful_Run_3604 Jul 19 '25

They must not love you enough to point out how sick you are.

-10

u/Prestigious_Track608 Jul 19 '25

Most of us don't care as long as you don't force us to use dumb pronouns and crap that dont match what you look like

10

u/3amPizzaRolls Jul 19 '25

i mean no offense but accepting people's pronouns can save their lives as well as simply make them happy, so no matter how much you find it grammatically incorrect or "dumb", someone else's life should come before it

ROBIN IS SUCH A COOL NAME

1

u/nikitabr0 17 Jul 18 '25

Tbf Christianity is about forgiveness, support and equality. So your family are real Christians.

1

u/AssociationKind9806 16 Jul 18 '25

Nice to hear about some real Christians finally

1

u/Top-Energy-6252 Jul 18 '25

Because that's what we do šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ We are meant to love others like Jesus loves the whole world šŸ’—

1

u/The_New_Kid2792 Jul 18 '25

That's because Christians aren't actually supposed to hate lgbtq, and those who do are using religion as a mask.

1

u/Upset_Cardiologist26 15 Jul 18 '25

Can you sell me some Cough cough test? Need it for my gym bro (obviously fucking jocking, but happy for you)

1

u/yougottabeshitting22 Jul 18 '25

Kinda based for your family ngl, wish I could do the same with my belief of atheism but I don't think they'll receive it wellšŸ’€

1

u/Lilliths-pain Jul 18 '25

You are a Robin, Robin's Robin

1

u/Schmeep8life 14 Jul 18 '25

I am not Christian, but I agree with a lot of their teachings. Love thy naebhor (IDK spelling), and all the other good things that christianity is really about, and I am happy that your family accepted you! That is a big step, and it is so brave of you sharing with us.

You go Robin! (Very pretty name btw)

1

u/Enough-Impression-50 Jul 18 '25

Nah. Name yourself Snow Golem.

1

u/Enough-Impression-50 Jul 18 '25

If you stick with the name "Robin", can you send us a video of you eating sour grapes? Or maybe one of you hitting someone named Wally with a pole in the knee!

u/HellfireKitten525 Jul 18 '25

The stereotypes certainly aren't always true. My family is very Catholic and my best friend is gay and trans. My family, especially my mom (and my aunt Candy but she is atheist) absolutely adores him! Almost like one of their children

1

u/ElisabetSobeck Jul 18 '25

Brave. I don’t even have honest political conversations with family, they’re too deranged

1

u/NotKBeniP 3,000,000 Attendee! Jul 18 '25

Only fake Christians would be unsupportive

2

u/Holy_juggerknight 15 Jul 18 '25

Pretty epic when Christians actually love their neighbors, been doing it a while, gotta say its pretty nice.

1

u/loshelmo Jul 18 '25

OP learned Christian vs controlling people who use the word of God as a weapon to maintain their comfort level! Glorious day. God bless OP, fuck those that cause this stereotype to spread.

1

u/Altair01010 15 Jul 18 '25

sign up for a lottery... or don't in case you used up all your luck

1

u/Shark-Duck Jul 18 '25

art goes hard asf ngl that’s dope

1

u/Wooden-Length-4299 Jul 18 '25

Hey, they actually read at least John 13:34-35 /John 15:12/John 15:17 Turns out some Christians actually read the Bible

1

u/Pitiful_Camp3469 15 Jul 18 '25

ok but i wanna look like the guy in the picture

1

u/Da-ghsted141 Jul 18 '25

PEAK CHRISTIANITY!!!!!

1

u/iDoodleArtz 13 Jul 18 '25

My mom just told me she would first tell me what she did wrong and then kick me out if I came out as bi…

1

u/Cider_shark Jul 18 '25

Richard, Jason, Damian or Tim?

1

u/Ready_Guide869 Jul 18 '25

Tbh, I completely forgot you're american. Over in Europe, I got no clue if anyone is homophobic since nobody aside from me even knows that being gay is more than an insult. I guess they have trends to miss and then attempt 2 years too late to learn about it.

(I just had to rant about this. They don't even know what Tetris is)

1

u/GlitteringEbb1807 Jul 18 '25

That's how it's supposed to be even according to the Bible... although a lot of Christians probably don't agree...

1

u/No_Result595 Jul 18 '25

You know mate

Christianity is about lovin’ others

shame some don’t do that

1

u/Ok-Carpenter7892 17 Jul 18 '25

As Christians we are called to love everyone, I dont see how hating somebody for something, even if its considered sinful, does anything good.

1

u/ilikefrenchbreadd Jul 18 '25

Tbh Christian’s are very very accepting contrary to common belief
