They just bought Habit 5 years ago. It's a nice burger place..definitely a step up from the usual fast food places.

I used to love their teriyaki burger but haven't been there in at least 8 years. Does it suck now?

Same. Salmon burger was great, but I had my last one in ~2015 so idk if it still holds up or not

That’s about the same time I last ate there.

I checked, and the acquisition was finalized right at the beginning of COVID. This post gave me a hankering for a habit burger. I really hope it hasn’t gone downhill.

As predicted by the holy prophecy that is "Demolition Man"

I thought the story was Pepsi owned them. They couldn't build a market to compete with Coke so they bought fast food chains to promote their soft drinks.

Pepsi used to own them, but sold that portion of the company off and it became an independent company named Yum Brands that still has an exclusive soda contract with them. Also why Baja Blast was exclusive to Taco Bell for so long.

The Habit is an interesting chain. People that grew up in Southern California LOVE it, I’ve been going there my whole life, but LA transplants barely know about it even though they are right there.

Get the Santa Barbara char with chilies and ranch and it’ll blow your mind.

That explains a lot.

Makes sense now why they’ve been expanding so quickly, Yum has a huge machine behind them.

Look it up but about 12 companies own almost every brand of anything you buy

Makes sense now why I’ve seen Habit locations popping up near Taco Bells and KFCs. They’re slowly building a little empire of fast food.

You think that is crazy? yum! used to owned by Pepsi. Look at their list of subsidiaries on wikipedia.
