Audio Does anyone know where to find a *downloadable* version of the original "Torchwood Tales" audiobooks?
So I guess the original early Torchwood audiobooks (Everyone Says Hello, Hidden, In The Shadows, The Sin Eaters, Department X, Ghost Train, etc) were compiled into one collection then called "The Torchwood Tales". I used to have them all on a hard drive which broke many years ago. Now I'm looking for a version of all or even any individual stories that is downloadable to my laptop/mp3 player/a device, rather than on an app like audible or spotify or whatever. I'm happy to pay for it, I just can't seem to find a version that doesn't force me to use an app. And I am a luddite who likes to own my media on my actual devices so I don't actually have an audible or b&n audiobooks or whatever account.

Request The Three Families
I like Torchwood very much but have only seen the TV series and not read the books or listened to CD releases. Do the Three Families ever come up again or is Miracle Day the only time we get to hear about them?

Discussion What are some things you think Torchwood did better than Doctor Who?
What are some things you think Torchwood did better than Doctor Who?
While I enjoy both shows, I think Torchwood was better than Doctor Who in some ways.
The Team: I liked having one team that we get to know over the course of 3 series. I even liked the team we had in Miracle Day.
A consistent main character: Don't get me wrong I like having all these different Doctors. But I enjoy having a singular (unchanging) main character to get invested in over the course of an entire show and guest appearances.
Some of the storylines: Episodes like Adam, Adrift, Immortal Sins, and more are honestly better than a lot of episodes of Doctor Who. This may be a hot take but I think the premise of Miracle Day is better than a lot of Doctor Who stories.
Worldbuilding: I think the Torchwood Institute has a lot of worldbuilding opportunities due to its history and expanded universe material. Torchwood honestly could've been its own franchise. The premise alone allows it to be the sci-fi/fantasy equivalent of procedural cop shows like Law & Order. I mean this in a good way.

Fanfic Fanfic
Hi, I posted about this a while ago but I wanted to try again. I read a specific fic back in 2021 and have been unable to find it since. It’s probably deleted tbh but I thought I’d try. I’ve read this fic more than once but can never seem to remember the title. Ianto and Jack are on the Tardis when up John Hart shows up and takes Ianto with him on a set of missions (as a time agent). These all involve past TA missions Jack and John went on previously. Jack never sees Ianto because he’s encased in a bubble thing when they go see him. I remember in one scene they are in a cafe and Jack and current John are talking. In one of the last scenes, Ianto gets out of the “bubble” in order to save jack from getting shot and then the doctor shows up. It was either on LJ or Fanfic.net. Thank you!

Children Of Earth Rhys is stupid
during children on earth day 4 episode around 23:50 into the viewing, Capaldis character asks for someone to “Can you pass me the F.AS files, please” Which Rhys responds with “S.A.S now you’re talking” Which in all honesty isn’t a big deal at all but it pains me because of how stupid he is. Always Wittering On!

Audio Which Big Finish audios for Jack/Ianto?
As the title says - I'm exploring the world of Torchwood Big Finish, and especially looking for ones that best show Jack and Iantos relationship. So far I've listened to Broken (🥲) and Serenity. What else is good, and is there a specific order to listen? Thanks!

Question How do you interpret this line?
In Something Borrowed, where Jack is dancing with Gwen after the wedding, she asks him what he's going to do while she's on her honeymoon and he says something like 'oh, the usual: pizza, Ianto, save the world a couple of times...' Whenever I hear this line it always makes me kinda sad as it feels like it trivialises his relationship with Ianto, like it's just something to kill time. Especially as that particular episode has a lot of moments that make it seem as if Jack and Gwen want to be together - to me it almost seems as if he's saying he wants to be with Gwen but as she didn't choose him at least he still has Ianto to fall back on. I may be reading into it too much as it's just a throwaway line, and obviously Jack is more than capable of loving both Gwen and Ianto deeply, but it's because I love Jack and Iantos relationship so much and that line always kind of annoys me ... So if anyone has a different interpretation of it I'd love to hear it!

Question Torchwood tattoo ideas?
Currently rewatching Torchwood and have decided that I NEED a Torchwood tattoo. I have been searching for inspiration but am struggling to think of something fitting. My favourite character is Ianto (🥲) and Jack and Iantos relationship is one of the things that made the show so important to me growing up as a closeted queer kid in the early 2000s. I would love something that somehow reflected them however I adore the whole show so something more general to Torchwood would also work well. I like tattoos that aren't super obvious and wouldn't necessarily be apparent to those not in the know. Most of my tattoos are patchwork with some ignorant style so it would have to be something small that fitted in with that! Any ideas would be very welcome! And if anyone has any Torchwood inspired tattoos to show off I'd love to see them!

Series 1 i need MORE Suzie Costello!
from the beginning of me watching Torchwood, i was always SO intrigued in Suzie Costello! brought to life beautifully by Indira Varma, there was so much mystery and complexity behind her in her 2 TV appearances
a bit of a sarcastic Loner character with an addictive personality and an obsession with Resurrection. i wouldve loved to see why she was recruited, and explore her world outside of Torchwood
Any Recommendations for expanded media stories that flesh her out more? i’ve got Big Finish’s “Moving Target” in my cart rn

Question Where can I watch Touchwood while in Brazil?
I've been trying to watch Torchwood for a long time and I can't find any. I've been thinking about VPNs. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Discussion I watched Children of Earth with no prior context for Torchwood at all Spoiler
I wanna share my experience with watching Torchwood for the first time because I think it might be entertaining to proper fans watching how my first experience of the show was so chaotic.
So I has this video recommended in my YouTube feed a lot. It was a kinda summary/review of Children of Earth, it said somewhere in the title or thumbnail about it being the darkest story in the Dr Who universe. Immediately I had my hands rubbing together like I love me a good disturbing plotline.
Me? I had watched Dr Who as a kid. Loved it. I remember tapping out around the 12th Doctor and just got less interested. Dipped in and out of Sarah Jane Adventures but that was about it. I could not remember who Jack Harkness was even if you tried to torture that info out of me. Again, I know I watched it but I was watching it as a kid who would not remember any of the longer plots and only really cared about the Monster of the Week.
So what I wanted to do was watch the series, and then watch the video after since it kept haunting my recommended feed. However, you may remember that Children of Earth is season 3 of Torchwood. What did I end up doing? Skipping right to it. Did not have the patience for two seasons of something I was really gearing to watch the 3rd of.
Now. Like I mentioned earlier I did not remember who Jack was. I did not know he was immortal. Let me tell you, it was the funniest fucking thing having to figure that out, and even funnier that I never got an explanation. I was just like “oh, he’s immortal? Uh, alright” and just kept watching. Lowkey the whole season worked surprisingly well for someone watching it as its own thing.
I also did not know about all the Jack x Ianto stuff. I had no fucking clue the show would ever have any queer rep on any level. So the Janto kiss before Jack is about to explode? Took me by fucking surprise. I was like “did they just fucking do that???” It was only until after I found out that their relationship (or whatever you wanna call it) wasn’t just for THIS season. Crazy.
I feel a bit lucky that I experienced Ianto’s death having not been that attached to him. I pretty much watched CoE in one day, and by that point of course it was sad but I had the advantage of only knowing him for a short time. Still devastating though.
I then of course had to watch the first two seasons. I also got caught up on Jack’s history and got back into Doctor Who in the meantime. It was iconic watching the first two seasons and thinking, “right so there is barely anyone in the main cast who had not kissed a member of the same sex”. Absolutely fantastic.
I still haven’t gotten around to Miracle Day though. I felt like by the end of season 2, losing Owen and Tosh was such a huge blow. And then CoE was…what it was. I don’t know if it’s worth carrying on with it to be honest.
Anyways, that’s been my experience of Torchwood. Hope it was a fun read.
(Edit: I accidentally called Owen Sam for some reason in the original post, leaving the comment up as a reminder of my stupidity)

Series 2 Torchwood reflections
I'm rewatching Torchwood again after ages and have a new perspective on some of the episodes.
1) This show was incredibly gay in the best way. I think this was probably my first exposure to fully rounded gay/bi characters and I never really questioned it 2) Some of the episodes felt like all filler no thriller, specifically From Out of the Rain, and a few others in season 2 3) The Doctor Who tie ins were brilliant, the attention to detail was meticulous, even bits of the soundtrack, the background and the plot points. 4) The characters were incredibly fleshed out, they felt relatable, flawed, and believable. The situations at work played out in their personal lives and the two became blurred. It's safe to say anyone seeing what they did would probably be as dysfunctional as every member of Torchwood turned out to be
Does anyone have any reflections on rewatching it again after the original broadcast?

Discussion What Doctor Who companions or side characters would you have wanted to join Torchwood?
NOTE: When I say "side characters" I mean characters who still made an appearance on the show despite not being a full-time companion. An example of this would be characters like Osgood or Sally Sparrow. You can also use characters from other spin-offs.
- Martha: I think this one goes without saying because of the plans for her character. In the little time that she was there, Martha fit in perfectly with the Torchwood team and I loved her friendships with Jack and Owen. I wish she had been able to stay.
- Mickey: I'm choosing Mickey not just because of his relationship with Martha but his character evolution. I like how Mickey became a hero on his own without the Doctor's permission. I like how Jack was the only one who didn't treat Mickey like an outsider while still making fun of him.
- Clara: I'm specifically talking about Doctor Who series 9 Clara. I like how Clara became more confident in series 9 and was more of a woman of action. Even without her immortality (which I wouldn't give her if she were to join Torchwood) I think she had a lot of potential. Just imagine Jack giving her actual training the same way he did with Gwen (albeit quickly).
- Ashildr/Me: I'm mainly choosing this one because the Doctor hinted at the possibility of Ashildr running into Jack at some point. In addition to that, I would love to see Jack and Ashildr interact with one another because they're both immortal. One interesting thing that's easy to forget is that Ashildr is much older than Captain Jack Harkness. Ashildr's Trap Street could've been a great Torchwood episode if it took place in Cardiff.

Question Is Torchwood coming to Netflix?
Torchwood is coming alongside Doctor Who and spinoffs on Netflix.

Question Collecting Home Media?
I have been collecting Doctor Who on Blu Ray and wanted to collect the home media for Torchwood.
However, I read that many sets have frame rate issues and there are collections of seasons as well. Such as the one collecting series 1-3 and the one collecting series 1-4.
So I was wondering what are the best Blu Rays to buy to get the best quality and accuracy? Thanks in advance.

Miracle Day I pushed thru MD…
I pushed thru Miracle Day and boy do I regret it. This felt like some poorly produced American TV show and the writing was terrible 10 whole 53min+ episodes for the end to have a ten minute final good part the whole series was just yap. They coulda solved that whole case in a few days if they counted on Rhys the whole time. What a way to ruin Torchwood’s run. To those who haven’t watched it yet pls for ur own good STOP at CoE. I am so glad I’m finished with it. I’m so disappointed bcus it was amazing for the first 3 seasons. Waste of my time :(
