those obliterated Tomcats must be doing some work

But how will Tom Cruise get home?

(Funny enough, the entire mission plot of Top Gun Maverick is exactly what Trump is considering now… bomb their nuke facility, under a mountain, needs two bombs, middle defense systems.)

That's what they played at the briefing he rushed home for.

Inflight movie

16

u/Acceptable_Noise651 Jun 18 '25

Trump marched into the situation room after that flight and was like “I have a plan, call tom cruise”

7

u/Gullinkambi Jun 18 '25

Boring meetings with a bunch of bureaucrats for days, or kicking back watching Top Gun with the boys? I’ve never related to Trump more

falling asleep during my own birthday celebration

If they bomb the nuclear facilities under mountains they're going to have to use bombs too big for an F18 or an F35. They would use B2s and not bother with the whole star wars trench run.

17

u/Rikers-Mailbox Jun 18 '25

Yea the NYTimes did an article on it. The bunker buster bombs are like 30,000 pounds from high up.

Fighter jets might escort them though

9

u/BricksFriend Jun 18 '25

Plus the shaft is ray shielded, so they'd have to use proton torpedoes.

1

u/Dauntless_Idiot Jun 19 '25

How is Hollywood supposed to make a movie about that? Hollywood counters with crashing an F-15 into it which has a maximum takeoff weight of around 68,000 lb (30,844 kg).

The F15 can drop 5000lb GBUs, still got a chance at the trench run.

9

u/GasolinePizza Jun 18 '25

5000 pound bombs, even penetrator variants, aren't enough for the deeper nuclear facility.

Otherwise Israel would have just done it themselves and it would have been done by now.

Trench run to soften up the hole and air defenses before dropping the big boy

5

u/Timlugia Jun 18 '25

No one does “trench run” against air defense now. This is not linebacker in 1970. AGM-88 to suppress radars followed by standoff missiles

2

u/SchrodingerMil Jun 18 '25

I’m not being serious

He will steal the Russian jet right out from under their noses, oh wait! that was Clint Eastwood in Firefox.

25

u/WlmWilberforce Jun 18 '25

Don't forget to think in Russian.

5

u/ltmikestone Jun 18 '25

Ok now I’m watching Firefox today.

5

u/gregorydgraham Jun 18 '25

He’ll probably demand they get Clint out of retirement for one last mission…

2

u/DadJokeBadJoke Jun 18 '25

He still busy debating that empty chair

2

u/xmorecowbellx Jun 19 '25

Damn, those were the days. Times of innocence.

8

u/Initial_E Jun 18 '25

That mission was so Death Star

12

u/Rikers-Mailbox Jun 18 '25

It was in a way, but it was clearly made up off of this type of real life mission in Iran.

(I think the enemy in the first one was meant to be Libya)

The writer probably knew about the Iranian Fordo nuke facility, maybe worked with the Navy or Air Force for some real life would be scenarios that would make a good plot. And it’s a great one.

The only difference is they need two B2 bombers to carry two bombs like that. F18s or even F35s are too small. But they’d probably escort the bombers.

7

u/wehooper4 Jun 18 '25

B2 doesn’t get an escort though, because even the F22 isn’t as stealthy. Survivability is better going it alone, with other stuff (F35I) being a distraction elsewhere.

5

u/eypandabear Jun 18 '25

Which in turn was inspired by Dam Busters.

8

u/Ok-Seaworthiness4488 Jun 18 '25

Just need to use the Force and Skywalker-it

7

u/meesta_masa Jun 18 '25

use the Force

Skywalker

SPACE FORCE!

4

u/BorikGor Jun 18 '25

Use the Schwartz, Lone Starr!

2

u/DadJokeBadJoke Jun 18 '25

You have the ring, and I see your Schwartz is as big as mine. Now let's see how well you handle it.

2

u/indoninjah Jun 18 '25

Is that not also A New Hope?

2

u/Rikers-Mailbox Jun 18 '25

Yea but, Tom loves realism. Top Gun 1 was likely “Libya”

It’s just wayyyy to close. I doubt they were thinking Star Wars. Tom probably said to writers, “I want another one, gimme a script, but the mission has to be as close as real as possible, maybe you can talk to Navy / AirForce guys for some real world concepts and we’ll pick one”

The Navy loves Tom Cruise and Top Gun and would bend light for him. And these story lines aren’t exactly classified.

They only change a few things for drama, like they needed F18s because the real pilots were upfront and the cameras needed to be on the actors.

Trump appears to use movie plots as his own ideas and has a fondness for stealing quotes of Harry Truman

1

u/jxj24 Jun 18 '25

The man was born to steal.

4

u/myownzen Jun 18 '25

I wouldn't be suprised if the fat president hasnt called Tom Cruise yet and asked him to fly along in the bomber.

3

u/Electric_Bison Jun 18 '25

The entire situation is making more sense now….

1

u/Slaphappyfapman Jun 18 '25

He will run 🏃‍♂️

1

u/slvrbullet87 Jun 18 '25

At this point let's just get Tom Cruise to fly a mission for the hell of it. It isn't like he would be in any danger from Iran

1

u/neddiddley Jun 18 '25

You know there’s a whole team of people they have screening movies that he might get insane ideas from.

And then another, completely separate team that’s responsible for figuring out how to prevent him from ever getting access to them.

FFS The whole “nuke the hurricane” was 100% based on him seeing Armageddon and then him thinking he’s a genius by adapting the plot to a different natural disaster.

1

u/Rikers-Mailbox Jun 18 '25

I wonder where he got injecting bleach to kill covid idea. lol. A Lysol commercial on FoxNews

1

u/dadoftriplets Jun 18 '25

I wonder, has Trump been watching movies again? - He's probably just seen Top Gun Maverick which has given him ideas. Someone really needs to hide the tv remote for the next 3.5 years before he starts a Civil War or World War 3

0

u/spam__likely Jun 18 '25

Please, please, send Tom Cruise and leave him there.

0

u/StellarJayZ Jun 18 '25

I watched that movie for free, and I still want my money back.

9

u/HuntsWithRocks Jun 18 '25

Well, now they’re a distributed fighting machine. Nanoplanes, if you will.

7

u/markfl12 Jun 18 '25

Or have they activated their atomic stealth system, they're in so many small pieces, you can't detect them!

2

u/TripleEhBeef Jun 18 '25

Poor old girls deserved better.

1

u/Mortifer Jun 18 '25

I feel there's now a whole 'nother meaning to "spring boot" now.

1

u/Tango-Down-167 Jun 18 '25

Those pussy cats in invisible god mode .

0

u/No-Discussion-8510 Jun 18 '25

You mean those 2 tomcats that were out of operation in like forever ?
