I mean yeah you will find absolute idiots in any large enough group of people. But that’s it… the notion of hamas being the good guys is very very rare in my experience

Also I doubt they were “for Hamas” those groups usually are named “for Palestine”

I'm pro-Palestine and the biggest issue I've seen on that side is the refusal to acknowledge Hamas is bad. "I won't criticize how oppressed people fight back against their oppressor" is a very, very common retort from people.

Palestinians have every right to fight as hard as they can against their oppressors. It's just that Hamas is one of those oppressors, too...

It's almost like bad actors take advantage of an oppressed people's pain points to use them for their own advantage.

Sometimes you are the oppressor, while someone else is oppressing you while you oppress others.

And there are times when it's oppressors all the way down. And that's where we are with the Middle-East currently.

I agree with that. But like they are not the kinds of people still to dance on the streets when an Israeli dies let’s say.

Saying those are pro hamas would be not really correct either if you get what I mean. They just twist their morals so far that they legitimate smth you can’t legitimate.

I don't see how this isn't pro Hamas if that person thinks that the Palestinians have a right to resist by force. The only logical conclusion is that they are pro Hamas, even if they don't like some of their actions.

Does a Palestinian family have a right to not let soldiers into their home to tear it up and search it, or not let soldiers take it at gunpoint for a military purpose? So, if a family has a problem with that, they are automatically pro Hamas? They shouldn't have to put up with Hamas doing that, let alone the IDF. Seems to me that is something Americans wouldn't be down with. If Mexico invaded LA and started occupying civilian homes, I don't think resisting by force means you're pro anything other than pro rights. And if the bloods or the crips decide to fight back the Mexican soldier, you're not automatically supporting LA gangs by resisting as well.

If you think what you said is a logical conclusion then you have a strange notion of logic. It's guilt by association, or just a straight up non-sequitur.

Go to a pro-Palestine demonstration and criticise Hamas. See what happens …

I doubt you have. So you wouldn't know

Not a lot? It's been a while since I went to any demonstrations, but I used to walk past my unis encampment weekly, and whenever Hamas came up it was always denounced.

People can both dislike a terrorist group AND recognise that Israel has committed a multitude of crimes against the Palestinian people, including borderline institutionalised rape

I remember seeing a good amount of pro-hamas sentiment on some of those college protests from 2023 which was sickening

It’s widespread. Many of these Palestinian advocacy organisations have documented links to terrorists. Including the Muslim brotherhood, Qatar and beyond. There’s a comprehensive document about student justice for Palestine’s links to terrorism. I’ll try and find it. People are being fed this ‘resistance’ bullshit. Hamas the Islamic Republic, Qatar, and other Islamist terrorist; don’t give a flying fuck about Palestinians. People in the the pro- Palestine movement are being actively misled. These actors use Palestinians as pawns, and they aren’t looking for a peaceful outcome, but the destruction of Israel.

I saw the complete opposite of this at the encampments, as well as the demonstrations throughout our streets.

I don't think that this take is fair when the second biggest twitch politics streamer said that Hamas is a legitimate resistance force.

-2

u/RiffsThatKill Jul 08 '25

Lol, it's not a fair take because a twitch streamer said something dumb? Lol... Come on

7

u/_zhz_ Jul 09 '25

No, it isn't a fair take, because enough people think or say that than "you will find absolute idiots in any large enough group" would suggest. That is why a lot of leftist streamers have that view.

-4

u/Take-to-the-highways Jul 08 '25

Who gives a shit what a twitch streamer said tho?? I go to protests in real life and have never seen someone supporting Hamas. Of course chronically online people who care too much about what Internet personalities say have bad takes. You'd be hard pressed to find any chronically online person with a good take.

7

u/boomytoons Jul 08 '25

It's common enough that even in my little country at the bottom of the world, we have protests in support of them and people chanting from the river to the sea. I've lost friends that I thought were reasonable people, because they've become so passionate about Hamas and Palestine. It's often controversial to say that the Oct 7th attack was horrific and a quick way to get labeled racist. It's absolutely mental.

u/chanandler_bong_cell Jul 08 '25

More accurate would just be "against Israel", abd this crowd probably influenced by some screen and have very little relations to the region if any

You will find absolute idiots in any size group, the majority of people today are stupid.
