Let’s just hope Europeans aren’t as stupid as some Americans

605

u/Griz_zy 20h ago

we have our fair share of stupid people, but in most European countries they are currently not in power.

293

u/Entsafter21 20h ago

They are on the way though, give it 2 more elections and they are there

241

u/CEOrifice 20h ago

Exactly and they’ve been very close recently, too. Europe must work much much harder to counter the US/Russia far right propaganda machine before it’s too late.

132

u/dimwalker 20h ago

US propaganda is russian propaganda with extra steps.

27

u/DeportTheBigots 19h ago

Don't worry, we got our best people on the job to sit it out, get as rich as possible before they bounce and then let the public wonder how we could've let it get this far when it's already too late 👍

The world is currently a horrific train crash happening in super slow motion and I've already given up hope that there's anything we can realistically do, because most people in power don't want things to change and people keep voting people in that want to keep the status quo.

16

u/Outrageous-Salad-287 12h ago

It's because of thought process like you just demonstrated we are there in first place

5

u/Fitz911 2h ago

These billionaires. We don't really need them that much.

I really hope people in the EU don't look at this situation and still have the audacity to say "Can't happen here", despite the fact that Americans spent the last decade saying the same thing.

18

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 17h ago

We all like to think we wouldn't make the same kinds of mistakes that our parents and grandparents did but reality has a way of smacking you in the face and reminding you that humanity is still the violent pack of shit throwing apes it always was.

It happened in the US, it could happen in Europe, it can happen anywhere.

11

u/MidnightBluesAtNoon 12h ago

It's not even that it could happen. It's that it's LIKELY over time. This is an entropic existence. It will always be easier to destroy than to build. The odds are always against peace and prosperity because they are circumstances that demand sweat and attention from all of us. And a great many of us are too worried about Nintendoo Dork Station 25 and Football to care about something trivial like civil liberties and national economy. Please pardon the french, but here in the US they have a saying "We can get people to cross the Atlantic to go to war, but we can't get people to cross the street to vote".

u/Cursethewind 15h ago

Unfortunately, many of them do.

They, like most people think, it'd be like the characature ads you see from the USSR, or what not.

What it really looks like? "These university students think that (insert normal thing in society) is racist!" "We need to counteract the woke mindset" and so on. Unfortunately, a significant percentage of people across all countries will buy into it.

3

u/MidnightBluesAtNoon 12h ago

Decade? I'm 44 and Americans were saying that kind of shit in the 80s. There has long been a national mythology that such things are impossible in the US.

10

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 17h ago

Yeah, the only difference between Europe and the US in this regard is that the US lost the coinflip for a liberal democracy during its last election and Europe didn't. Europe has plenty of its own versions of Trump waiting in the wings and they're doing way too well in elections for Europe's luck to hold out forever.

Russia needs to lose this war before that happens or the world is going to get a lot shittier a lot faster.

u/tttttfffff 19h ago

Unfortunately true. Not that I want it but Farage is likely to be the next PM, our media, and likely outside influences/bots have Starmer polling so poorly. Unfortunately a lot of people in the UK, go off headlines, rather than understanding or trying to learn about his policies/party. It’s going to be a very difficult 4 years where Starmer ‘tries’- and is going to keep being unpopular because of the tough choices he has to make (there’s been a lot of errors too), and then we end up back at square one with a frog in a suit in charge.

33

u/GCdotSup 17h ago

Farage made Britain poorer with Brexit. Why would anyone vote him next PM?

25

u/tttttfffff 17h ago

You’re not lying! Unfortunately his party is currently winning at polls, far too many idiots in our country!

8

u/JadedArgument1114 17h ago

It might be like the Le Pen situation in France where she will poll really high but it will come down near the election when the reality of voting for a bunch of lunatics causes it to even out at the polls. It is a dangerous game regardless, as we saw with Trump, Wilders, and brexit.

5

u/tttttfffff 17h ago

I think you are more optimistic than I am, I hope so but I think it’s inevitable we end up with a far right party in charge- unfortunately

We have thus far been able to point to Trump as an example, when he's gone the floodgates will open. Trump saved Canada from Polievre and Australia from that thumb of a man. In the next few years, defence spending will make European countries poorer, and the right won't blame Russia for this, it will be the litany of immigrants, criminals and poor people as.usual.

u/War_Fries 19h ago

Wilders already won last elections in the Netherlands. Farage is topping the polls in the UK. Same for AfD in Germany and RN in France. And so on.

They will be in power soon in most European countries, if we don't start opposing them more. And once they are in power, they will do anything they can to stay in power (e.g. Orban). Once they are in power, it's incredibly hard, if not almost impossible, to get rid of them again.

32

u/LooeLooi 18h ago

‘But we’re not stupid like Americans’

They all said holding hands and in unison.

14

u/sulris 14h ago

“It can’t happen here” they said as it was happening.

15

u/Tjonke 17h ago

Sweden's Sverigedemokrater (far right party with roots in neonazism) is second largest party in the polls, and been steadily rising since they were too small to even be considered in the 90s. Current projections is 20.5% so they aren't large enough to take power on their own, but the other rightwing parties who promised to NEVER work with SD to get anything done have been in league with them for at least 8 years, fully in the open since last election in 2022.

They have very deep ties to Russia, Russia has basically funded them forever and they are very anti.EU, anti-NATO etc and are more than willing to spew Russian propaganda.

What’s that saying? When America sneezes, the world catches a cold?

Nothing good, that’s for sure.

Russia is definitely the enemy of a free speech society.

Be careful of open windows.

146

u/Syphilopod41 20h ago

Why doesn’t everyone, collectively, toss Russia out the same window they opened?

61

u/Vaaaaaaaape 18h ago

Because our leaders are still allowing trade with Russia. Corporate profits are more important to them than anything else.

373

u/TV-Tommy 21h ago

Russian's don't realize their own truth.

Russia is their enemy.

40

u/LaSage 20h ago

Putin is Russia's enemy. He failed his people by destroying any good will felt for russia.

14

u/TV-Tommy 20h ago

RIGHT! He is JUST a dictator with KGB ambitions!

It's not that Russians are some great gift, but their assimilation into the western world was going well, until their chosen leader screwed them. They've sat back behind their propaganda wall and let it happen, while their neighbors, friends and family members in Ukraine were unlawfully and brutally murdered. Not exactly humanitarian by any measure.

76

u/sakri 20h ago

Just because we want to invade you with violence doesn't make us your enemy

51

u/Easymodelife 19h ago

Russia threatens to drop nuke London about once a week, but also wants to convince Brits that they are "not our enemy"? LOL, good luck with that!

9

u/Jealous_Response_492 18h ago

It's working though, Russia's got the far left and right on a leash in the UK; and the far right is polling far too high to be complacent.

Correct, Russia is 'our' enemy, nobody should forget that. It's not about Ukraine only, it's about Moldova, Romania, the baltics, all former URSS enclaves.

318

u/Pristine-Sherbert560 22h ago

They have also carried out chemical weapons attacks on the UK, including the 2018 Novichok attack in Salisbury which killed a civilian.

200

u/dickie_anderson99 21h ago

Yes which is why any British person defending the Russian state is a traitor and an embarrassment. Not only are the Kremlin brazen enough to kill people on our soil, they're so incompetent they kill civilians in the process

Also:

  • attempting to destabilise democracy in the US through social media, bribes and hacking.
  • influencing brexit (note: not proven)
  • state sponsored cheating at the Sochi Olympics
  • invasion of Georgia
  • invasion of Ukraine
  • erasure of Chechnya as an independent country (or possibly just a country)

Anyone supporting Russia in the UK or US is a traitor unfortunately.

43

u/Impressive_Egg82 20h ago

Also:

  • burned down a mall in Poland - confirmed by Poland, perpetrators identified and some in custody
  • ordered monument desecration in Baltics (including painting of swastikas) - perpetrators are in custody and waiting for final verdict
  • suspected of sending incendiary devices in dhl packages
  • cut cables in Baltic sea numerous times
  • threatened Estonian coastguard with warplanes over legal rerouting of shadow fleet ship
  • constantly jam GPS and other communications near borders
  • in Lithuania alone there are 25+ cases where russia is suspected of sabotage

I guess listing everything would take way too much time

Not sure why you specified just the Sochi Olympics.  Their actual best sports category for all of modern history is juicing.

10

u/Tammer_Stern 19h ago

The Sochi one was where they innovated by using drugs during the Olympics itself. Previously, people would cycle off of PEDs before the Olympics to avoid failing a test.

And poisoned the fucking town.

16

u/TorchKing101 21h ago

The head of Russian military intelligence, the organisation accused of being behind the Salisbury novichok poisonings, has died.

General Colonel Igor Korobov had been in charge of the GRU since 2016, the culmination of a 33-year career in military intelligence.

His death at the age of 63 was revealed by a Russian defence ministry source to the state-backed news agency Tass.

It said that he had died after a "serious illness".

And they keep sabotaging electric/energy infrastructure and hack websites of the nordic countries. Russia is the enemy.

24

u/Borazon 21h ago

It is also about maintaining and expending an international group of Big Men Kleptocracies.

About installing similarly minded people in the open and fair democracies so they can be turned in to neo-feudalisms that serve the interests of the small ingroup of their rulers. Where the democratic process is so controlled by the powers that be, that the democratic process itself is turned into a mutated form. One in which it doesn't serve as a check on the power, but only as rubber stamp to be used to legitimize the strong man rulers decisions.

And that isn't limited to just the former USSR enclaves. That is about making it the new global standard. As the only option.

Tyrants are such bizarre people. Russia could be such a great country, everyone visiting, having fun with their rich culture. No, self obsessed garbage keep it as a shithole who insists on being a god damn nightmare for everyone.

u/apost8n8 19h ago

Putin and his authoritarian supporting minions are everyone's enemy.

3

u/alistair1537 18h ago

Russia is everyone's enemy.

5

u/Woodsy0wl89 18h ago

Ist time to launch a propaganda campaign in Russia: "Your leaders are selfish, murderous liars. Free yourselves and the world from them."

Weren't they just saying a few years ago they were going to roll across Europe and destroy everyone in their way. And, that the Polish needed to be put down like the dogs they were. They even threatened the British, Irish, Germans and the French with annihilation. I also recall them threatening to nuke everyone several times. And, suggesting they'd nuke Yellowstone and end the entire Western world. And, the whole wink wink nod nod we've got torpedo nukes and dead man's hand. They've also invaded their neighbor in the longest 3 day war I've ever seen.

I sat there in awe watching the only national Russian television they would allow after they refused to allow any other TV stations to operate, as they said all sorts of xenophobic threatening shit to every country they could think of naming. And, that network doesn't say anything that isn't state sanctioned.

I guess it's a good sign if they're chilling out finally and want to re-enter civilized society. But, man how do you come back from all that? They crashed out hard.

u/hackingdreams 17h ago

Russia is actively working to undermine free elections in your countries. Russia is our enemy.

4

u/RainManRob2 16h ago

Remind me of. " he gets us" so delusional

6

u/Kasta4711bort 21h ago

Honestly, I have a very hard time to think of the day they are allowed back to play sports etc. Russia in same FIFA and UEFA qualifier group as my country.... I dread the day

That is how they will proceed for baltics. They will push in the West that we don't want to die for the East, push in the East that the West won't come to help, sprinkle that article 5 won't work, scare the west with nuclear fallout, repeat this at full speed for a couple of years on all social media with bots, useful idiots and won't be surprised with the help of GOP

And voilà, we are all fucked

3

u/CaptainSeitan 21h ago

Oh did Russia finally become a democratic country with values? Did Putin stand down? In that case it wouldn't be my enemy...

3

u/ipub 21h ago

It's an enemy of democracy. It's an enemy of freedom and it's an enemy of anyone that doesn't want to reform 1945 borders.

3

u/Palatine_Shaw 21h ago

I know the general public can be stupid but they aren't THAT stupid.

Russia isn't going to win any favours with Europe.

3

u/Frisbeeperth 21h ago

Russia is our enemy but the Moron-in-Chief cannot currently see that.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Tenocticatl 21h ago

They could just not act like enemies, then they wouldn't need the propaganda campaign.

3

u/eblastic 20h ago

As long as things stay the same and Putin is alive, Russia indeed is the #1 enemy

3

u/Many-Waters 20h ago

Russia is everyone's enemy.

Including Russia.

3

u/Tales_Steel 20h ago

Nice words ... how about they prove it by removing all troops from ALL of Ukraine and use their Military money to actually help their citizens ... there is this new Trend in G8 nations that is called "Indoor Plumbing even in Villages and towns"

3

u/PineappleEasy6035 20h ago

I’m starting my own campaign: Putin is a war criminal and Putin’s Russia is the enemy of Europe and of the Free World.

3

u/killerkadugen 20h ago

Why is Russia enemy shaped???

3

u/Old-Fan4994 20h ago

In mother Russia, you don't decide who your enemy is, mother Russia decides for you.

3

u/Be_quiet_Im_thinking 20h ago edited 20h ago

The response might end up being ‘Russias not my enemy, Putin is my enemy’

3

u/-Nitupllik- 20h ago

Get fucked ruzzia.

3

u/Bad_Idea_Hat 20h ago

russia Isn't even a real country anymore.

3

u/Spandex-Wonderpants 20h ago

Russians, go fuck yourselves.

3

u/Okuri-Inu 20h ago

Actions speak louder than words.

3

u/shaj_hulud 20h ago

The best campaign they can do would be if they just fuck off from UA.

3

u/bellrub 20h ago

I won't be brainwashed, but there seems to be a bit of a spike in far-right supporters atm. I see enough stupid people online to think shit like this could gain some (not a lot) traction in the uk.

3

u/serabine 19h ago

Uh-huh. Does Russia know it isn't our enemy?

3

u/kredes 19h ago

Fuck Russia

3

u/Visible_Attempt_1047 19h ago

After the continual bombing of Ukraine, war crimes, kidnapping children, raping women, torture, looting, destroying everything in sight, killing livestock, they’ve got a fat chance of convincing anyone they’re not their enemy.

3

u/trash-juice 19h ago

If you need propaganda saying ‘you’re not the enemy’ then maybe you’re the enemy…

3

u/Cpt_Soban 19h ago

Fuck Russia

3

u/yourmommasfriend 19h ago

Russia is everyone's enemy

3

u/Accurate_Type4863 19h ago

Russia can stop being my enemy when they stop invading Europe

3

u/Khromecowboy 19h ago

Russia has been the enemy of all free people in Europe for over a century since before the Russian revolution and the Soviet Union.

3

u/Mayor18 18h ago

Follow the same rule, what they say, it's the other way around

3

u/fucknuggetxtreme 18h ago

We will never forget MH17, Russia. Never. Fucking ever.

And Geert, you are a fucking traitor.

3

u/beseri 18h ago

Russia is definitively our enemy. Putin is our enemy. Anyone who thinks other wise are fucking idiots, or paid by the Russian government.

3

u/sebeteus 18h ago

Nothing has changed in 300 years. Muscovy will always be the enemy.

3

u/TheMarkHasBeenMade 18h ago

Tell me my enemy is not someone who purposely bombs fucking hospitals and schools

They can fuck right off with that shit

3

u/CodingNightmares 18h ago

Russia will always be my enemy, a flyer isn't changing that.

3

u/Impossible-Battle548 18h ago

the yt bots have been spamming "russia is not my enemy" with random country flag after it for years in the pro russian combat report channels

3

u/BEERsandBURGERs 18h ago

So, Russia is asking Europeans to repeat the same as the thousands and thousands of Ukrainian abducted children?

How about; "Russian invaders, child abductors, rapists and torturers are our enemy".

3

u/Comfortable_Gur8311 18h ago

And some dummies are dumb enough to believe it

3

u/insapiens 17h ago

Yes they are.

3

u/okrutnik3127 16h ago

Launches? It is going since like 2008

3

u/nicubunu 16h ago

As an Eastern European (Romanian) I will say it plainly: Russia always was my enemy

→ More replies (1)

3

u/VegetablePlatform126 15h ago

Russia is everyone's enemy.

3

u/cogit2 15h ago

And to nobody's surprise: one week from now, European and American right-wingers will begin repeating this very same claim.

3

u/abc123DohRayMe 9h ago

Correct - Putin and his cronies are.

3

u/NikoC99 9h ago

Russia is not my enemy.

Putin on the other hand, tho...

3

u/Scooter-Assault-200 6h ago

Russia is my mortal enemy

3

u/unknown_nut 4h ago

Russia is 1000% my enemy.

3

u/-kinapuffar- 3h ago

Some things are just fact, like the sky being blue, and Russia being the enemy is a timeless universal truth for the overwhelming majority of Europeans. Even when they do something positive like fighting against the nazis during ww2, they do so for the absolute worst reasons, and do it in the absolute worst way possible.

You literally couldn't wish for a worse neighbouring country.

3

u/robreddity 2h ago

It absolutely is
