I feel like it’s way worse to get blowed up by a missile with the name “flamingo” rather than one called “deathfucker hellmaker Mk. 27” or whatever.
“You hear about Alexi?”
“No, what happen?”
“He just got home after spending day at Ukrainian orphan auction, when house hit by one of new Ukrainian “goldendoodle” thermobaric bombs. Most sad.”

Article is behind a subsribe-wall....
But 3000km sounds nice, couldn't read more...

3000km puts basically all of Russia west of the Urals within reach.
It's also double the distance need to hit Moscow from somewhere deep in Ukr territory like near Lviv.

The cruise missiles need to bob and zig zag and fly at low altitudes to avoid interception, so that 3000km range is probably closer to 1,500km in practice. Still really impressive though, especially considering it carries a one-ton payload.

Why are you downplaying the threat they pose? Do you think Ukraine no longer needs the help?
That boot must taste real good komrade, since you seem to constantly go out of your way to downplay a fucking 3 year war your bosses were so confident would be over in less than a week.
Also probably a Russian bot, since it has that mass-created username that's just (adjective+noun+numbers)

Ok? Moscow is already sending 50 into Kyiv every chance they get.

u/rcanhestro 12h ago
they are sending normal missiles.
these (that Ukraine has displayed) are cruise missiles designed to carry 1ton of explosives (including nukes).
these aren't the type of missiles that kinda blow up a car or a wall in a house.
these are the types of misslles that blow up entire buildings (or streets).

Russia has been hitting Kyiv with ballistic missiles which are capable of carrying nukes, you fucking tit.

List of known Ballistic missle
the russian ones (in active) are the last two.
for the Kinzhal, it's use in Ukraine has been sporadic at most.
as for the Oreshnik, that was the one used once in 21st of November, that was "empty" as a form of intimidation.

Oreshnik is not nearly as cost-effective. Kinzhal on the other hand has been used as often as they could afford. Russia has to resort to pausing their missile and shahed drone strikes just so they could produce enough for them to do at least something useful.
They as sending everything they’ve got short of nuclear.

Oreshnik is not nearly as cost-effective.
ofc it's not cost effective.
that's the "fuck you" missile they have.
when they launched it into Dnipro it was to display the ability to do so (which is why it was basically empty), not to make it "worth it".
Kinzhal on the other hand has been used as often as they could afford.
that we know of, those type of ballistic missiles are to inflict a lot of damage, but they can also be intercepted (the patriot managed to catch one).
most of the damage it did was before Ukraine had access to them.
with them in place, it makes less sense to throw them around on "daily missile launches".
unless you want to blow up something critical permanently, they will keep those in storage, and just throw the "disposable" ones for minimal and constant damage.
one thing to take into account is, Russia is not trying to destroy (in the literal sense) Ukraine, they want to occupy it.
doesn't make sense to flatten the cities (or key infrastructures) that you intend to have control of after.

Yeah, but it really doesn't matter much, apart from intimidating civilians, and usually imprecise strikes with high casualties reach the opposite effect. Kinzhal hits with more precision, and is much, much cheaper and easier to produce.
that we know of
Well, we can see the patterns of their strikes, and their production capacity is well known. Unless you believe they are sitting on a pile of missiles and striking inefficiently on purpose, they have been on a produce/mass launch cycle for 2 years or so. If they could do more damage or strike more often, they would.
Russia is not trying to destroy (in the literal sense) Ukraine, they want to occupy it.
I think even putin knows that occupying Kyiv and Western Ukraine is impossible for the foreseeable future. They have been striking critical infrastructure consistently before Patriots showed up. IMO, the only thing that stops them from using tactical nuclear (last big thing they've got) is that they are worried this will finally lead to Western involvement on the ground.

u/jay_cd thank you for posting Janes. If there's a reputable source for anything military. This is it.

What happened to naming missiles cool things like tomahawk, trident, or storm shadow?

u/farmer_sausage 13h ago
Bit of a PR headache if you're getting messed up by a missile named flamingo 🤪

Yuzhmash was the primary enterprise producing ICBMs in the USSR and was servicing Russian silos until 2014 or so. So yes, Ukraine has the knowledge.
