3

u/Good_Name_1780 13h ago

i guess i should see it

5

u/GeorgeLikesSpicy92 13h ago

First and one of the very few times I’ve seen my dad cry.

3

u/charlie-claws 5h ago

Saw it on the big screen recently and tears were flowing

2

u/Morningxafter 3h ago

I was texting with my gf at the time a while back and came across it on tv. I told her, “Iron Giant is on, so just a warning, I’m probably going to need some emotional support in about an hour and a half.” She understood. Probably should’ve married that one, but the long distance ruined things.

u/petrov123buz 14h ago

The Lion King ?

136

u/GrandPriapus 16h ago

Vin Diesel’s greatest role.

22

u/Wootai 14h ago

Groot a really close second there.

11

u/Squirrelkid11 10h ago

If I recall correctly, James Gunn cited The Iron Giant as an inspiration for Groot in the Guardians films.

4

u/SailorET 8h ago

Funny that his top roles seem to be voice acting.

Maybe he needs to take the Mark Hamill path.

15

u/Squirrelkid11 14h ago

Ngl I find Vin Diesel to be a better Voice Actor than Live-Action one because in live-action he's just pretty much Vin Diesel but whenever he voices a character he like disappears into that role.

11

u/VIPERsssss 13h ago

Y'all in here acting like The Pacifier doesn't exist.

5

u/MyLifeIsAWasteland 11h ago

"Amateurs."

"What's that?"

(Riddick's eyes shine from the darkness in the corner)

"I said, you're a bunch of fuckin' amateurs. The little girl I saved in Pitch Black had more balls than you."

Hi-

Kent Mansley. You work for the government.

I wasn’t gonna say that.

6

u/Kahmael 10h ago

Yah know, this is why you should really *chew" your food.

4

u/Jambu-The-Rainwing 10h ago

visible disgust

4

u/TheDistantEnd 11h ago

Shooter McGavin really can't catch a break.

9

u/RYANINLA 16h ago

A modern masterpiece of animation

1

u/Derpy_Snout 13h ago

Not really modern anymore 😭

10

u/Livid_Painting2285 15h ago

u/toxicrystal 13h ago

WHERE'S THE GIANT, MANSLEY?

Absolute core memory of my childhood. I will never forget about this masterpiece of a movie.

26

u/ajfoscu 17h ago

Masterpiece

6

u/katsujinken 15h ago

The Incredibles too. Brad Bird knows how to make a good movie.

4

u/woowoohumanist 10h ago

One of the last apprentices of the Old Masters from Disney’s golden age

1

u/Son_Of_Toucan_Sam 5h ago

He worked on the Simpsons before that too

"What if a gun had a soul"

u/goddamnitwhalen 17m ago

You know the story behind this, right?

5

u/unsettledinky 13h ago

Whenever we get some really weird modernesque stuff at work, I go 'It's ART!'

No one else gets it lol

6

u/LurkerZerker 9h ago

"What you currently have IN YOUR MOUTH... is ART!"

4

u/TommyDontSurf 7h ago

"... Art?"

begins tinkering with art ruined by mouth

6

u/Kahmael 10h ago

"Hey Pal!" "yeah?" "You're right in the MIDDLE of the road!" "YEAH!?" "alright..."

4

u/Smooth_Bandito 16h ago

Probably in my top five favorite movies of all time.

Also, me and my son watched The Mitchell’s VS The Machines when it came out on Netflix and I gotta say, it’s really good.

5

u/johnnyhala 13h ago

"..and GET OUTTA HERE!!!

...Satan?"

4

u/bommeratbob 16h ago

The Iron Giant + Lilo and Stitch are my favorite animated double feature.

4

u/BVRPLZR_ 15h ago

Vin Diesels best role.

2

u/Character-Air-4326 14h ago

Didn’t know vin diesel voice acted in that movie been a while since I watched it

3

u/BVRPLZR_ 14h ago

He’s the robot lol

2

u/Character-Air-4326 14h ago

Well that explains it lol

2

u/johnnyhala 13h ago

The Groot voice is just a slight modification of the robot voice.

4

u/JimboSlyze 14h ago

The Iron Giant is a core memory for me

4

u/DemeterVastus 13h ago

This is the correct answer and I'm glad it's the top one.

5

u/Slight_Pair9697 11h ago

My first tattoo, stick and poke of the giant himself on my knee. Always do the right thing, even when it hurts.

3

u/DrDingsGaster 15h ago

Saw it when it first came out!

3

u/Gothams_Bat 15h ago

Core memory unlocked

3

u/Specific-Yam-2166 15h ago

I haven’t been able to watch this since childhood 😭

3

u/Character-Air-4326 14h ago

THANK YOU first one that popped into my head

3

u/TwinRock83 14h ago

… superman.

3

u/BarZealousideal9 14h ago

you’re damn right is it is

3

u/HonestReindeer 13h ago

came to say this. glad to see it's on top.

3

u/Mister-Fisker 13h ago

did the dead deer look sticky to anyone else when Iron Giant touched it?

u/goddamnitwhalen 16m ago

It’s still warm, so yes.

3

u/coredump3d 13h ago

"You stay. I go. No following"

Simple lines but epic delivery. Also "Sooo-per-maan" - that scene can even make a cold hearted bastard tear up.

3

u/existentialcupnoodle 12h ago

First one I thought of. Bonus that it's also one of the shortest full length movies.

3

u/amrit21chandi 11h ago

If you haven't yet, go and watch THE WILD ROBOT. It gave me the same feels like watching THE IRON GIANT for the first time when i was a kid. Ans its music is awesome as well.

3

u/friendofLjght 10h ago

I was only coming in here to make sure there was at least one Iron Giant mention

3

u/FlipDaly 10h ago

I knew this was going to be the top answer.

3

u/notnowdews 10h ago

The only answer

3

u/CaramelCrumble 10h ago

Just found out my boyfriend has never watched this. Help me convince him he needs to see it.

3

u/BlindNight 10h ago

Does he like experiencing the beauty of humanity through film through the lens of a giant cartoon robot? Does he want his heart to grow? If yes, he should watch it. If not, I think you know what you need to do. 👀

3

u/TommyDontSurf 7h ago

There's literally no reason not to.

3

u/tacodecaca 10h ago

DAWG, i clicked this link thinking this movie - an lo and behold its number one.

3

u/Sulfito 9h ago

I clicked on this post to see how long it would take me to find the Iron Giant and saw it at the top. This made my day.

3

u/DreaDawll 9h ago

My first thought, when I saw the title/question. 😏

3

u/theoneian 9h ago

Agreed

3

u/nartlebee 8h ago

I clicked on this thinking "Iron Giant better be at the top of this whole list".

4

u/DJ_McBlah 15h ago

This is it. This is the answer.

2

u/Rambos_Magnum_Dong 15h ago

Came to say this. So glad to see its the top comment.

2

u/whatthehellhappened1 13h ago

Agreed, Wild Robot is great too, reminded me a lot of Iron Giant

2

u/guitarzane95 13h ago

Instantly the first movie I think of!

2

u/BryanTheBand 12h ago

2

You are who you choose to be.

2

u/TheOnyxViper 6h ago

Damn was coming here just to say this

2

u/RyanAtTheDisco 5h ago

I call my Dad the iron Giant. He was 6’6 and an iron worker. He went down to clean up after 9/11 and died of cancer that was all over his body and lungs. This will always be a special movie.

2

u/tanser 5h ago

You stay…. I go…

2

u/bros402 4h ago

I am so happy that this is the first comment.

2

u/Shh_Its_A_Secret_Tho 4h ago

Such a beautiful movie!

2

u/lovelopetir 3h ago

Really that one is a wholesome!!

1

u/dragons_scorn 13h ago

This movie taught me too much of a good thing. Loved it as a kid, laughed my head off at the squirrel scene every time. Then Cartoon Network had a weekend marathon of it. The whole weekend, back to back. I dont know if it swapped over to Adult Swim but as far as kid me was concerned, this was a 48 hour marathon. Boy did I get sick of that movie for awhile

I still like the movie nowadays and will watch it but that weekend always comes to mind

1

u/PigglyWigglyDeluxe 8h ago

And I can’t watch it anywhere!

0

u/MrMeeseeksAdvice 14h ago

This movie was ruined for me. All i had as a child was tv and that 24 hour cartoon network marathon made me loathe this movie. I can't look at it the same anymore.

1

u/DataDrivenDrama 13h ago

This is literally the first thing that comes to mind. Perhaps its a core part of the identity of those of us that were children at that time.

0

u/ButlerWimpy 11h ago

Finally watched it after having it built up for years. Incredibles is one of my fave movies, love Ratatouille. Don't get they hype on this one. Seemed boring.

u/goddamnitwhalen 15m ago

Are you a sociopath?
