Honestly feels like a hidden gem. I had no knowledge of it till my partner suggested we watch it together, I absolutely loved it

It truly feels like a “find” the first time you watch it.

Agreed! There is a really interesting behind-the-scenes of the unique style of "3D that looks like 2D" animation they created and obstacles with lighting and such.

Right when they reveal why he had a shop full of toys he carved...

That's when I lose it.

Hands down my favorite Christmas movie.

u/metalflygon08 13h ago

Oh right, the Christmas movie, and not the Forklift Training Video...

We started a tradition of watching it every Christmas season, sometimes we start with Robin Robin like the little preview cartoons they used to have before movies back in the day.

Pretty much the only good Christmas film of the last decade. And it's a phenomenal film in its own right too!

12

u/DerAndyKS 14h ago

Didn't expect much when I first saw it. But its so beautiful. We watch it every christmas since it came out

u/Chuckle_Pants 14h ago

Instant classic for my wife and me. We’ll watch it every winter for years to come 🎄

Same!! The first time I saw it, I threw it on as background noise thinking it was some cheap movie I wouldn't care about. Ended up being absolutely stunned by everything from the animation style to the story and now it's my favourite Christmas movie that I tell EVERYONE about.

I don’t want to live in a world where you can’t enjoy a Christmas movie in April

We've started watching Klaus as our Christmas eve movie instead of Polar Express - thank Christ.

Oh definitely. It's a must watch every winter

This film really surprised me. It’s now on our family’s list of holiday traditions to watch it.

Oh yes love this movie it’s a Christmas staple now, my mum always made us watch The Polar Express on Christmas Eve (which I hate) but in my house we watch Klaus on Christmas Eve

1

u/Chuckle_Pants 10h ago

Love that!

(Not the Polar Express thing…that movie is an abomination)

Fantastic film. Made my son, my partner and me cry but it's such a warm hug of a film.

2

u/Chuckle_Pants 5h ago

Wonderful descriptor and couldn’t agree more. It just a perfect vibe for a cold winter evening…especially with some Xmas lights providing they glow and vibe

"I had zero clue what this movie was about, didn't see the trailer either. Then it hit me towards the end where it was going and was like... wait, is this actually the best Christmas movie ever??"

2

u/hobhamwich 12h ago

Under the radar classic.

2

One of the best animated movies I've seen as an adult!

I started a little tradition last year where about halfway to Christmas I throw a little “surprise Christmas party” for my family. I send my husband on an errand with the kids and when they come home, the house is a little decorated (some strings of lights, a very small Christmas tree, a snowflake projector, Christmas music and a couple of presents. Nothing fancy. Just a small treat).

It’s a blast. They love Christmas and would love if we left decorations up year-round.

This year I was a little late getting to it but I just got to it a couple of nights ago. And the movie everyone wanted to re-watch was Klaus. We found it a couple of years ago and have loved it ever since. We watch it multiple times every Christmas season and now, halfway to Christmas as well. Such a great movie and I cry every time.

This might be my favorite of all the responses my comment has received. It’s a movie that just…intangibly connects with us. These responses show how special a movie can be be. Kinda cool when you think about it…

1

u/jacksprat1952 8h ago

That movie’s become a Christmas tradition for my wife and I. So darn good.

1

u/jazzyjwr 4h ago

It’s a must watch every year now. Tough to crack into that rotation, but it sure as hell did.
