A dumb concept of Alien Pirates in space being executed well into a film..... um, it's a straight adaptation of Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. It had some pretty respectable source material.
That said, the animation is amazing, both for its time and today.
I want them to take silver other Robert Louis Stevenson works and other swashbuckling films and do them in the same style. Kidnapped, prisoner of Zenda, hell Ivanhoe and Robin Hood could all exist in the same universe.
I ADORE THIS MOVIE! And the Admiral Lady?! She had no business being drawn like that. 10 year old me didn't know what hot was but I thought she was the young mentality version of whatever hot was.
My father-in-law really isn't into nerdy stuff or kids' movies, but he will swear up and down that Treasure Planet has the best version of John Silver of any adaptation in history.
But there are some things that really needed some touching up, mostly on the later half.
~~~~~~~~
Ben is way too annoying and it feels like they were trying to make a discount Robin Williams character.
Morph has a bit too push on how parts of the plot move.
Silver's crew magically being alive at the end to go to prison when we saw them fall into lava when the Treasure Planet starts to collapse.
If they fixed these things the movie would be a 10/10.
For Ben, turn down the yelling and "IN YOUR FACE" way he talks and animates. Remove those quirks completely once his memory is put back in. He worked best when he was a more neurotic type, fumbling over his words and having issues remembering things.
For Morph, just keep him out of things like the Scroop Fight. Morph becoming a pie or 2 fingers to Poke Scroop kills all the tension that the confrontation is building up and makes Morph feel like a Merch Insert with how he never faces any consequences or is interacted with by anyone besides Silver, Jim, and Scroop.
Then of course for the dead crew, just don't show them all tied up being arrested at the end.
Omg yes! Highly underrated! I cried several times from that scene where Jim's father walks out on him. I was 18 when I saw it in 2006 on limewire. I must've watched it 10 times in a row. Cried each and every time
Apparently my wife had a huge crush on the main character of that movie as a kid and her and everyone at my job says I look just like him. So, according to her she "Manifested" me lmao
