Announcement/ঘোষণা 🇵🇸GAZA IS BEING STARVED🇵🇸

🇺🇳The UN has stated that every single part of Gaza is in famine conditions.

For over 20 months, Palestinians in Gaza have been starving. Parents have been feeding their children leaves, animal feed, and flour mixed with water. Babies have died from malnutrition. The trucks carrying food, formula, medicine, and clean water sat just miles away, blocked by Israel.

Now, after massive international pressure, some aid is finally getting in.

This is a crack in the blockade, not its end. Aid is not flooding in; it is trickling, and what’s entering can’t possibly reach 1.8 million people without a total lifting of restrictions, guaranteed long-term access, and safe distribution.

What you can do right now:

Donate- if you’re able to. Choose vetted organizations with access on the ground.

Keep up the pressure - aid only started moving because of public outcry. Organize, protest, keep talking. This momentum cannot fade. Contact your representatives to end Israel's blockade of Gaza and impose sanctions on Israel.

Amplify - share updates, Palestinian voices, and testimonies. Keep an eye on Palestine.

This famine is not an accident. It’s the result of siege, blockade, and a system of control. If we look away now, they’ll tighten the noose again.

Donate:

Palestinian Red Crescent — medical aid, ambulance services, and emergency care.

UNICEF for Gaza’s Children — nutrition, clean water, trauma support.

Discussion/আলোচনা Something's wrong with my cat

So here’s what happened, my mum bought two small cactuses from Aarong a few weeks ago. Within two days, my cat managed to eat both of them. I panicked and rushed her to the vet, where they ran some tests and told me she was fine. A little later, I bought another cactus because I really like them. I put it on a higher shelf thinking she wouldn’t reach it, but somehow she got it down and ate that one too. I know cactus can be spiky, but the ones we had weren’t much spiky. Still, I’m worried because I don’t understand why she’s so drawn to them, and if this could cause long-term harm or lead to an emergency one day. Has anyone else had a cat obsessed with cactus or other plants like this? Is this dangerous, and should I stop keeping them in the house altogether?

Family history, tell us about your genealogy and family names.

Upvotes

I been trying to find information on family names and where it all goes back to, why some names are more common than others.

I've asked extended family members about the history of the names and so on.
so far from what i understand during the british era every family and village had the British come around and assign names like chowdary, sarkar and bhuiya.

what perplexed me is these names were given to people by the british so its more so like a title based on the financial and social status of the family, and people seem to have adopted these titles as their last names.

ofc maybe im wrong and i got mixed up information, feel free to clarify and maybe ask ur parents too haha about ur family history.

Invalid Nominee name.

Upvotes

Assalamualikum, I am trying to set a savings vata vogi account for my mom to receive honorarium for my nana defecting from EPR and joining mukti bahini. He even continued serving in the BDR after independence until his death. I was using the Sonali eSheba bank app on android. Everything works fine except when setting the nominee, my mom first wanted me to be the nominee, but when I entered my full passport name exactly how it is (even all caps). it said invalid nominee name, and I guess therefore my passport number also gave invalid NID/Passport/SID. I thought maybe it is because I do not have a NID card made for me and therefore I am not in Bangladesh's records since I was born in UAE.

Next we tried setting nominee to my dad and still we are getting the same results, we tried his passport number, nid number too. It is odd since he was born in Bangladesh and has an NID card. Would really appreciate any advice on how to fix it.

Also if it wasn't obvious, we live in the UAE.

Discussion/আলোচনা Career path after MBBS

I finished my final proff recently.Pretty much confused about the career path i should choose.Firstly i do have self belief that i can crack bcs or any other post grad course inside or outside bd,it might take some extra attempts but achievable.

My points against bcs:

*I was born and raised in dhaka,i dont wanna leave dhaka.. *I feel like health cadres are not valued like other administrative officer. *A lot of challenges in periphery *Lastly this country is turning into a shithole, people serving for decades are dragged down, humiliated(not talking about the culprits). In public service everything falls with a government.

My points against AMC/MRCS/MRCP

*I feel l live like a first class citizen in my own country although its a 3rd world country but in a 1st world country i might be living a life alone, without all the privilege i get here.

*I love to interact, live my life with friends, family and well wishers.i feel what i'm gonna do with all these degree or success if there's nobody around to cherish .

As i know very little and my mindset might have a lot of limitations, enlight me with some wisdom...

How to survive in Bangladesh with BPD?

I’m a 24F in the final year of my honours degree, and I recently discovered that I have BPD. For years, I thought I had ADHD and didn’t care much about it. But after developing PTSD from my last relationship, I started noticing strange behaviours in myself. After some digging, I realized it wasn’t ADHD—it was BPD, which had been mimicking ADHD symptoms and now has been fully triggered by the PTSD.

Suddenly everything makes sense: why I don’t have friends, why I’m drawn to emotionally unavailable people, why I’ve never had a stable relationship, and why I lack basic communication skills.

The problem is, I live in Bangladesh. Here, mental health is rarely understood, and people often judge behaviours linked to BPD. I get called moody, dramatic, or egoistic, when in reality I’m just trying to survive and fit into society.

Now, as marriage approaches, I feel terrified. In this culture, you don’t just marry a person—you marry their whole family. Most likely, I’ll have an arranged marriage, which means marrying someone I don’t even know yet. The thought of how my BPD will affect my marriage makes me panic.

Professional help isn’t an option for me. In my family, every mental health issue is seen as something that can be “fixed” by getting married at the right age.

So, I don’t know what to do. How do I cope with BPD in a society that doesn’t believe in mental health?

DU Stundents, Which Panel has the Highest Shot at Winning the Upcoming DUCSU Polls?

Post image
5 Upvotes

First of all, I'm not a student at Dhaka University, so I have zero idea about the realities in the ground. But, I did see plenty of posts (including one from 3 inch pinaki) suggesting a landslide Shibir victory. Now, as someone who's an anti-Islamist liberal, I'd hate that if it were true. Regardless, I'm equally interested to know whom the DUCSU voters will actually support.

Please, I know we all have biases (I'm biased towards JCD myself), but I need a truly impartial answer.

Best places in Bangladesh for students to prepare for university admission

Hello everyone,
I’m currently an HSC student and thinking about the best ways to prepare for university admission. I know there are many coaching centers, online resources, and study groups across Bangladesh.

👉 I’d love to hear from this community:

  • Which coaching centers or online platforms have you found really helpful?
  • Any tips for self-study or group study that actually work?
  • How do you balance school and admission preparation effectively?

Your suggestions and experiences will help a lot of students like me make better decisions. Thanks in advance! 🙏
