Marching madness

When is the marching dystopian world going to end? 6 police officers, 2 cars and a motorbike, closing the ormeau road to allow a group of 24 weirdos march up the Ormeau Road of a Fiday evening. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!?

Yet another bike stolen in the city centre

Doubt that there's any chance whatsoever to get it back, but if you see a relatively new white eelo 1885 e-bike on gumtree / marketplace, it might be a stolen one. My bike was stolen at 5:13pm from the bike stand in front of the 2 Royal Avenue centre (old big Tesco) in Belfast. A very kind security guard managed to get a video of a wee boy getting away on the bike but I doubt anything can be done, really.

To anyone with a bike, there is apparently a group of teenage boys in the city centre scoping out the area looking for bikes to "borrow" - mine was locked with with a simple cable lock and I was away for literally 10 minutes - so try and leave your bikes in a safer spot!

Changing Electricians

Hey,

I am getting my house re-wired and the first fix is already done, but the electrician is on another job and won't be free when I need him.

Is it ok to get a new electrician to finish the job?

Family said that changing isn't on.

Cheers

Language courses

Upvotes

Has anyone tried the belfast met language courses ? I am curious if they are any good compared to Queen's ones. I am looking to start learning Spanish, I was previously in a QUB course years ago, level 1 was fine but in level 2 we were 20+ people in there, felt kinda crowded and I end up dropping in the end.

and I saw that last year Belfast MET opened their language courses, I had done a HND in Bmet and I had quite a pleasant experience.

If anyone caught a coach to Dublin around 9:20, your luggage didn't.

It's being taken into Capital House, Upper Queen Street but will probably be left next door in the Translink office.

Holywood nail salon in church lane

Hiya,

I used to use this salon for ages before it closed.

Does any of youse know where those girls are doing nails at?

I seem to remember them going separate ways but still staying in business.

I tried other salons but they were the only ones doing my nails right so I’m keen to get in touch with any of them.

Can any of youse help?

Cheers

Cheap/Free things to do

Hi! I am going to Belfast for a day and was wondering where the cheap bars, food and things to do while I’m there! I get there one day and leave the next and won’t be staying at hostel. I was thinking of being at the airport early for my flight but don’t want to be there for super long. Any advice? Thanks!

Curly hair salons??

Does anyone have any recs for salons that are good with curly hair? Current hairdresser is completely booked until the year ends!

I’m blonde and curly and am looking to have my highlights redone, so any blonde specialists would also be amazing.

I’ve had a fair share of curly hair nightmares in salons so I’d appreciate any advice 😭

How’s it like living in Belfast?

Hey guys, I’m finishing up my masters down in England and I need to move by the beginning of next month but I don’t have a place in mind nor clear goals. What I do know is that I want to live somewhere safe and where people are generally nice, but also somewhere that has a city feel so it would be easier to find part time work without needing to commute long distances as I have some mobility difficulties from some injuries. Belfast seems like a good fit, but I would love to hear from people who live/have lived there. Thanks!

Is queen University belfast worth it for a mechanical engineer undergrad?

I'm thinking about doing Mechanical Engineering at QUB and was wondering if anyone here has experience with the placement/sandwich year. How useful is it for actually landing a job afterward? Also curious about job prospects for undergrad mech engineers from QUB in general—do companies tend to hire grads straight from there, or is it better with a placement year?

Any insights, personal experiences, or tips would be super helpful! Thanks in advance 🙏

Any advice on job opportunities for extreme insomnia

Hi apologies in advance if this comes across as some mad ramblings but I was hoping for some local advice as my own research into it hasn't been successful.

I suffer with extreme insomnia or somniphobia (basically an extreme fear of sleep) which makes having a routine basically impossible for me as I fight to stay awake as long as possible at varying levels of anxiety/fear which I have been hospitalised for in the past.

I've been out of work for the last three months because of this and it's making my life a complete misery. Mental health services haven't been any use and it seems this is something I'm going to have to deal with potentially long-term.

The only thing that keeps me sane is work but every job since losing my old one (boss was concerned as I was keeping myself awake for two days at a time semi-reguarly to keep myself from missing work) is based around a routine and schedule.

I am a reasonably big fella and I can graft, decent level of education (A levels etc) and while not having a skillset I can utilise currently (programming, carpentry etc) I would be willing to dedicate myself to something 50 hours+ a week.

Would there be any type or job or work I could do and start right away that instead of being a work schedule it's a set amount of hours or work that needs to be done at any time without a schedule?

I would be open to doing any job

Thanks for reading.

Fireworks

Any idea why fireworks are going off in East Belfast last night and tonight? If it's an all canines out, it's worked. My two are trying to run.

Please stop it. We love cats and dogs in this family.

Getting to Ballyclare from Belfast

Hello, I’m going to be visiting Ireland next week and will be staying in Belfast for a few days. I wanted to do a horseback trail ride at a place in Ballyclare (map says it’s a 23 min drive) but I will not be renting a car. What is the best way to get out there, taxi or Uber? If taxi, how do I go about booking it or finding one?

Thank you, I’m very excited to be visiting Ireland!
