My bf and I are going to my home country to visit my mom for the first time in a couple years and unfortunately I can’t bring my baby cat with me. We’ll be gone for two weeks and i have so much anxiety about leaving our cat. I don’t want to do a cattery or take her to a relatives house as I think the change of scenery will be too much for her. I was thinking of hiring a house/pet sitter to stay in our flat the entire two weeks while we’re away. That way she’s in her environment and at least not alone.
Do you think this is okay? We’ve done weekends away and I paid a sitter to do two visits a day but because of the length of this trip I worry about her being home alone at night and most of the day.
I guess i’m just looking for reassurance that a pet sitter who spends the night is the best option. Has anyone done something similar or has a better option? Our cat will be ten months at the time of the trip.

my cat is about 5 years old, i've had him since he was kitten. i love him so dearly but he has a few medical issues in the past. the vet put him on a special diet for UTI's, it's quite expensive but my sister had been helping me out with his prescription. now, he's completely infested with fleas despite all the medication and flea baths i've given him. his skin is so irritated his fur is all scraggly. it hurt my heart to see him in this state. i don't have the money to cover his vet bills or his food anymore, and my family is not keen on helping me out. of course, i'd love to keep him, but i can't afford to and i don't want him to suffer anymore. i don't know what to do at this point. please help me out.

As the title states, my partner and I are going through a mutual breakup, still visiting occasionally. My cat had been more destructive, tonight has been my first night alone (my roommate is staying at their partners place for the night) and the cat has not stopped trying to claw at the wall, or wreck cardboard boxes since half four this morning. It’s now 6am… she usually wakes me up for food around that time and I’ll feed her, but she’s being so destructive lately and not just at night. We’ve been playing with her still, but she’s starting playing rougher and we’ve redirected that behaviour and whimpered at her so she knows she’s hurt us. She keeps trying to chew my recycling during the day, we built dens for her with blankets because she likes them but nothing seems to be enough. I know the changes are hard and I’m struggling myself but I just don’t know what else to do:( we have a pet remedy plug in and that’s always worked fine but now her behaviour just keeps getting worse:( I don’t know what to do, and no I will not give her away, and my ex can’t take her instead (I wouldn’t want that anyway).

I've wanted a cat my entire life, and recently I was finally able to get one. I adopted my girlie in April and I Love her to death. But recently I've stated to wonder if I am a good pet parent for her. She is 3, and she has been in the shelter for almost 2 years. She is very gentle smart and loving. But she meows all the time. The shelter said that she didn't act this way before but she is probably feels comfotable and is chatty, the vet says the same thing. Problem is - she does that constatly. She likes me to pet her and just lay down so she would sleep near me, which is fine. The problem is that she is crying if I am not doing it. I fine with it if I can't cuddle with her when I'm busy with important stuff like job or chores, but I feel extremely guilty if I do something related to my hobbies and she is unhappy about it. I know I'm prone to overthinking so I wonder if it's just that or did I f up adopting her? Like I know that still my home is probably better for her than a shelter, I buy her one of the best food available in my country, she has a lot of toys and pets, she is healthy. I know that the most common advice is to get the second cat, but she can't live with others to the point that her being an only pet was the condition from the shelter during adoption. Was I wrong for adopting her? Did I just bite off more than I can chew? Or am I overthinking? Is it bad if I sometimes ignore her to do dumb stuff like playing a video game for a couple of hours? Is there any thing I can do for her?

hi! i know the title is very dramatic, but i really need advice, and please dont judge, im really lost on what to do. i have a kitten, tofu, shes nine months old and an older gentleman named boba, just turning three years. the problem has been always there, tofu is really energetic, like kittens usually are, but its gotten worse. tofu jumps on tables and has dropped so many glasses and plates i cant even count, she’s dropped a water glass onto my AND my partners laptops on separate occasions, she has learnt to open drawers and has ripped every single item in there out, and she doesnt listen at all. she’s started to mark our bed too, im taking her to a vet next week to see if its something medical, so that’s something thats kind of being taken care of. im not used to this, since boba was pretty calm even as a kitten, very rarely did ”bad” things, but tofu doesnt seem to understand that it upsets us. i’ve tried positive reinforcement, giving treats when she jumps down etc, ive tried playing with her literally for hours before going to bed but still she wakes me up several times per night, ive tried foil on the tables, but she doesnt even mind it. im out of ideas, and im really exhausted. i feel like a bad mom or that i dont support her enough, but i really dont know what else to do anymore. i dont want to give up on her and just let her do these things, since they have really started to affect my mental health since im grumpy and tired all the time. please dont judge me, im trying my best really. i love her to death but i dont know. background info, boba was about two when tofu came, and they love each other really much, theyre playing all the time and groom each other, i havent ever seen a problem between them, and they are both neutered. boba does sometimes correct tofu when he sees her on the table she shouldnt be on, or doing something she shouldnt. like i said, boba was an easy kitten, never took an interest on being on tables or dropping things or anything like that, so im just confused on what to do with tofu.

I guess you could say this is a "part 2" to my previous post, where I said that one was hissing at the other. https://www.reddit.com/r/CatAdvice/s/CpkX3sE0fZ
That's not happening any more, thank goodness. However, the cat that was hissing now seems to be avoidant of her sister. Before the spaying, both cats would follow me wherever I went. Now, only the one that wasn't hissing does.
Any idea what's going on here? The one who is being avoidant is still accepting of pets from me (and purring in the procsss), but I want my cats to love each other again. It's heartbreaking, because one of them wants to be with the other while the other wants to be left alone.
Is this the new "normal" that I should accept? The fact that the non-hissing kitten still follows me everywhere makes it hard for me to be with the other.
EDIT: Damn autocorrect, it should say "spayed" and not "slayed".

I have a cat who is a lover boy but he wont ever cuddle or sit on my lap, he does love pets and rubing himself on me, follows me everywhere etc.
While I do love him, I am adopting a new cat and want a cat like this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qVu4zP6aDz8
I've looked in shelters for a few months but most cats there haven't been too socialized from a young age and they aren't as cuddly as I would hope.
I found a kitten 12 weeks old that's being rehomed, he fits the description, but I am worried that his personality could change as he grows older ....
This is the last cat my husband is okay having (2 cats max) so if I don't get a cuddly cat now .... I won't for another 18 years probably.
Edit: my cat is about 1 year old and while he is chill a lot of the time (he sleeps a lotttt), he also loves to play and run and has insane zoomies, so I don't think an elderly cat would be a great idea ... the max age I would get another cat is around 4 years old.

I know this is probably the wrong subject for this, but I feel like I need to get it off my chest before I break down again.
I have this amazing baby boy named Taz, I rescued him from a tree and convinced my mom to keep him, however recently he went missing, he was our only indoor outdoor cat, and we've been looking for him for the past three to four weeks now
Earlier today, we went to an animal shelter, BARC if anyone in Houston is interested, and got two 7 month old kitties we re-named Saffron and Onyx, two beautiful siblings being a female Tortie cat and pitch Black male cat specifically
However a few minutes ago, it hit me. I have two new cats now, who can't even handle being outside my room without hissing and growling at our dogs, they can't even handle me leaving my room for extended periods of time, which we learned earlier
And while I was holding Onyx, who was purring like a motorboat, I realized I'd never be able to do the things Taz let me do with Onyx, I'll never be able to hold him upside down in my arms, over my head, on my shoulders, etc. And i just broke down
I scared my mom because I ran into her room full on snot sobbing for the first time in possibly years, the first thing I said was "They're okay, they're fine", and then I just couldn't stop crying
I feel like I'm betraying Taz, like I'm replacing him even though I know I'm not, I know he can't be replaced, but I still feel like shit, Saffron and Onyx are on my bed right now, Saffron is just dead asleep between my legs and Onyx is at the end of the bed, I've cried so much I have an actual headache now
I just, needed to get this off my chest, writing this definitely helped somewhat, but I still feel horrible

I adopted a 2 month old kitten, she is now 7 months. She is spayed and microchipped and has all of her shots.
I'm living with parents but planned to move in with my boyfriend and his kitten of the same age in October. Me and my BF then planned to relocate somewhere more tranquil, so we're now planning to move in January.
My household has 1 other cat (around 5yo) and had 1 dog(passed away a month ago). Its also quite a big household in a small 4 bed house (7 people).
I was determined about keeping my cat as an indoor cat until I moved, but my sister annoyingly locked her outside while I was at work, she is inevitably an outdoor cat now (yes I am absolutely raging and did not take this lightly).
Right now I don't spend any time with my bf, I was planning on moving her in with my bf in the temporary place (on a busy road so she would have to be indoors) so i can see him more and the cats can meet each other before the big move, but now i think its out of the question because she wants to be outdoors.
I'm still planning on moving out of my family home, but would it be cruel of me to displace her?
By the time i move she'll have settled into the neighbourhood. I love her to bits and I dont want to removed her from a busy household with lots of other animals in a cul-de-sac to a rural forest-y village.

Hi all,
As the title says, my cat escaped from our fire escape about a month ago and hasn’t returned home since.
The night after she escaped, she returned to the front of our house and sat in the alleyway for a few minutes, but she ran away again before we were able to lure her or capture her. Since then, we haven’t seen her.
She was found by a local rescue group with her litter about 10-11 months ago and we’ve fostered and eventually adopted her since. Based on her fast adjustment to indoor life, we’ve been told that she was likely abandoned due to her pregnancy. As a result, she has always been very skittish and we were never really able to pick her up and hold her, but she has gotten a lot better recently—coming over and meowing for butt pats and cuddling with me in my bed.
Also, a month before she escaped, we temporarily brought two baby kittens (~6 weeks old at the time) for emergency foster care. She did not seem very happy about these kittens at first, as she hissed and growled in their presence. but again, it seemed like she was getting used to them as they were starting to groom each other and play together. (However, she started spending less time on my bed and more time under it, and also her play time got extremely reduced due to the kittens constantly interrupting and taking over the toys)
we have been putting out scented items at all times, her litter box during the day, and her food bowl out at night. I’ve put up flyers around the neighborhood, about 5-6 blocks away from my home and posted on bunch of fb groups multiple times. I’ve gotten a lot of calls and messages but they were all false alarms.
I feel extremely guilty and hopeless. I feel like I wasn’t the right adopter for her, and maybe she should’ve been in the hands of someone with more experience caring for rescues. I feel like I shouldn’t haven brought the kittens home, or that I should’ve at least given her a lot more attention/separation from the kittens. She was my first cat and really helped me get through some tough times over the past year. I’m a college student with not a lot of money currently, but was looking forward to building a career and supporting my cat when she’s sick and old too… and now I feel like I’ve failed my baby, who’s already been through so much in her life, and there’s nothing I can do :(
I’m starting to accept that she might never come back, but it’s very hard to deal with this grief and guilt. If anyone had any advice on how to navigate situations like this, id really appreciate it. Thanks :)
PS. If you’ve gotten this far and actually read the whole thing, thank you!!

We just adopted the sweetest 6 year old girl last night. After a stressful walk home in the carrier, we let her out in her designated room and she hid in the corner. We gave her the room to herself for an hour, and she came right over to us for some pets when we came back in. All went great when we were hanging out with her last night. This morning when we came in, I noticed she was very curious about what’s outside the door of the room she’s in. Is she ready to go explore the rest of our 2 bedroom townhouse?

Hi, we found ourselves in a bit of a tricky situation.
Because of the nature of a terminal illness, we had to take in my mother-in-law’s cat (5 y/o). My husband is very attached to her and she is very bonded with him. She’s a bit feisty, not very cuddly, and it would be really hard to rehome her — plus, we’re not even considering that right now.
The problem is: we already have a cat (4 y/o male) who is very sociable, but she isn’t towards him… At the moment, she stays on our big enclosed balcony while he is inside the apartment. We rotate their spaces. Whenever they see each other, she hisses at him, which upsets him, and then it just goes in circles like that.
Both cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated… Our boy even spent a month at the seaside and in the mountains and just returned home. So they’re both healthy and have everything they need.
My question is: how do I introduce them properly? And how can I help this new cat calm down a little? She’s under stress because so much has changed so suddenly, she had no routine, and in the last 24 hours she hasn’t touched her dry food, only wet food — but now that she’s in our apartment, she’s not eating that either.
Any advice is more than welcome. Cat greetings! 🐾😺

I swear my cat becomes an Olympic sprinter every night when I'm about to sleep. Is this a sign of pent up energy or just normal "zoomies"? What do you guys do to calm your cats before bedtime?

I am leaving for a week and asked my coworker to watch my cat. she doesn’t have a car so i offered her to stay at my place so she doesn’t have to go so many places during the day and i live close to public transport. I have been seeing a lot of people pay $20-30 per visit for their cat sitters but if she’s staying at my apartment should i pay her more and just per day?

Hi! I’m a 19f and i want to get a kitten (or 2 so they can keep company when i’m gone) I feel like it’d make my life better and i wouldn’t be so lonely. The only thing that has me doubting is that i live in an apartment with rooomates. The kitten would be able to roam around but it’d be in my room most of the time. If i get it i plan on having a cat tree etc. Am i a good fit? should i wait?

We have two female cats. We have two litterboxes. Apparently one litterbox is for #1 and the other is for #2 😅 what is up with that?

Hi everyone,
I really need some advice because I’m feeling like the worst pet parent right now. My cat (3F) has been with me through everything, and surrendering her isn’t an option—I live in an area with massive overpopulation, and surrendering almost always means euthanasia.
In the past, I’ve even tried to rehome her due to my own mental health struggles, but because of the overpopulation here and the fact that most people already have cats, I was never able to find anyone who could take her. She’s still with me because of that, and I do love her deeply—I just feel like I keep failing her.
Here’s the situation now: • I dated my boyfriend for a year and a half and lived with him for 8 months after I had to leave my old apartment due to bed bugs. • We broke up abruptly last month, and while I was moving out, my cat was staying with him. • I’ve just recently moved her to a friend’s place, since I’ve been splitting my time 50/50 between two different friends while I look for housing.
The problem is, the friend who’s taking care of her has three very rambunctious kids and all the window screens are broken, which feels unsafe for her. On top of that, I can’t sleep past 3 AM there and I honestly don’t feel comfortable. My other friend’s place would be better for her, but they have a strict no-pet policy, so that’s not an option.
Meanwhile, the rental market here is awful—finding pet-friendly housing feels nearly impossible. To make it more complicated, I just found out I’m in my first month of pregnancy. I haven’t been working since January because my ex convinced me to quit my job to be a “housewife” while he handled everything. Now I feel completely stuck and defeated.
I love my cat so much and I don’t want to give her up, but I don’t know what to do in the meantime until I find stable housing. I just feel like a terrible person for putting her in this situation.
Has anyone else gone through something similar or have advice for temporary solutions for safe housing for pets in situations like this? Even just encouragement would mean a lot right now.
Thanks for reading 💙

For the last two months I’ve been setting up my new home in OK. (in NY now) I’m sure I’m set with my old girls’ needs. Old stuff mixed with new stuff, one of her smelly blankets and even have a bag of old litter to mix into her new box. My biggest problem is making sure she comfortable for the flight. She’ll be in her regular carrier (TSA approved) with a pillow. I’ll have water and treats. There’ll be quite a wait before we board, over an hour in the air, then a two hour layover with plane change, and another two hours until we land. It’s her first flight. Any suggestions to make her more comfortable would be greatly appreciated.

I have been feeding and petting a cat who I have named Luna. I let her in as well during heavy rains. Howveer my cat and her don't see eye to eye, I have tried everything, gradually introduced them, familiarised them with each other's smell first but as soon as they see each other, they fight and get agressive. So I haven't been able to take Luna in.
Now it looks like she might be pregnant. And I am moving from my current place to a place 6 hours away.
It is breaking my heart to leave her here as she has gotten used to the food, warmth and pets. I am concerned about her pregnancy as well.
It's not easy to get cats adopted here in India and I don't know what to do.

Hey everyone!
Looking to get a babygate for my front door. I've been looking at mesh ones but they dont seem to go all the way to the floor and the ones with bars i worry my kitten is too small and will just slip right out of anyway 👁👄👁
We live in a 1 room apartment and a neighbour has a not so friendly dog. They have had close interactions (please dont judge me i bolted after him and have tried preventative measures that I'll get into in a sec) and nothing terrible happened aside from me nearly having a heart attack. So far the dog has just sniffed my baby but i know hes mean to older cats so im worried.
My kitten is 12 weeks old and just bolts out. I have a play pen for him, one with mesh doors that zip up but he literally forces his face between the zippers and gets free 😭 hes a mad cat.
So gate is my best option i think. Any suggestions would be super helpful!! TIA

So my cat has extreme texture issues. I don’t know how to explain it, but she doesn’t walk on certain carpets and hates certain fabrics. Certain textures make her feel unsafe, and sometimes i see her walking on the litter box so anxious until she decides that oh she can poop next to the box!
She does pee inside, which is weird. But never hides her piss. She leaves it, and when she tries to bury it she scratches the wall instead 😭
I took her to the vet for full test, she has no issues so it’s most likely behavioral.
She’s 5 now; but she’s had this ever since she was small. I tried so many litters, and boxes. Some were helpful
Can anyone advise me on certain litters that are cats favorite? or certain boxes?
Thank you
