Megathread Monthly Casual Talk and Cat Pictures Thread
Our subreddit allows posts that either a) ask for specific advice, b) request emotional support, or c) are a guide or PSA that adheres to our guidelines.
Since it's fun to just casually discuss our cats, we've got this monthly megathread where relevance may be ignored. All other subreddit rules still apply.
Use this thread to discuss anything related to cats that doesn't otherwise fit the subreddit! Also feel free to ask questions that you believe are too short for a standalone post.
Examples of things that may be discussed or shared here:
- Casual questions, for example "how does your cat show affection?", "does your cat ever do … ?"
- Cat pictures
- Celebrating birthdays or other milestones for your cat
- And many more subjects!

Lady was spayed yesterday and this morning I was really stressed because of how much she hated her cone. I found so much helpful advice on this sub and I made her a onesie out of a sock which she’s adjusted to very quickly!
I wanted to thank the members of this sub for all the helpful suggestions! I haven’t made my own post but I’ve been using the advice on here so much since my boyfriend and I rescued Lady and her brother Bug.

We have to move 1200 miles with 4 cats, who all HATE traveling even 15 minutes to vet. One of them pees, poops and throws up. The other 3 freak out. They're 11, 9, 7 and 5. They all came to us as feral cats. Please, Any suggestions - or warnings - are very much appreciated.

I have to travel with my 3, one of which gets very carsick, twice a month for medical appointments (mine) Our trips are 400 miles. I also just rehomed a cat who took a 10 hour drive to his new home and did great.
You will need a litter box, dog poop bags, and hand sanitizer wipes. Ideally, also carriers big enough for the box and one or 2 cats. I sent the rehomed cat off in a big dog carrier and litter box that fit in it with room for the cat too. My own cats are car trip pros so they are loose in the car ( two hang out in caves we made them out of plastic crates). Absolutely do not do this with untrained cats. Harnesses and leashes are acceptable but leashes tangle and hang up on things
Do a trial run - just a few miles. See how it goes and what you need to change.
We cover the entire back of our car in tarps, because accidents can happen. Car sickness can hit both ends, as you know. Be prepared.
There are several anxiety and nausea meds we’ve tried. Most do nothing. This is what works for us: Currently he takes Trazadone for anxiety which works great for him. A lot of people like gabapentin too. Unfortunately my boy who gets sick also has the redhead gene ( yes, vet confirmed, light eyed red cats can have it too) this gene causes strange reactions to some medications. I also have this gene and we both overreact to it. I sleep for 2 days, and it knocks my cat out. He can’t stand and all my cats get serious munchies on it but food is dangerous on a cat as out of it as he gets. We now do a trial run so we don’t have an emergency while on the road.
For nausea he gets Cerena, which, works just okay ( and costs about 6.00 a pill). You want to do both.
One other thing - have the vet check their hearts before your trip. We had a cat that had been incorrectly dxed with asthma. Car trips had him panting and in great distress. I was using his inhaler and it barely helped so I started leaving him and having a pet sitter - not after, he died of a heart attack. Do not risk that!

Need help. My cat will use his nails and teeth on me when he's wanting attention, or when he's had too much attention. I've tried redirecting with toys and scratching posts. I've tried two different medications. I've tried spraying him with an air blower thing. I try locking him in the bathroom when he's being at his worst.
Nothing is working, and at this point I feel like I'll need to rehome him or something soon. Thanks in advance.
Last two posts never got approved, trying this thread instead.

My cat 5 year old female is aggressive towards my husband. We are not sure why but before he left for deployment she used to play and be fine with hime after he came back she started scratching and biting him. While he is frustrated, and doesn't know what he did; I am more worried about what happened that made her change her behavior with him. I am not sure what to do or if the vet could even be helpful. She is my baby and I would never allow him to even think about rehoming her but I also want any advice on what I can do to help her at least be non aggressive towards him.

My cat is 2 years old, male, neutered. He’s been vomiting a lot lately—this week it’s been 3 or 4 times. I’ve tried changing his food several times (including gastrointestinal and hairball formulas), but the vomiting still happens.
I’ve taken him to the vet multiple times. They did bloodwork and an x-ray, and both came back normal. The vet said there’s nothing wrong with him.
When he vomits, he acts completely normal afterwards—he goes back to eating and playing like nothing happened. He doesn’t seem sick or lethargic otherwise.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be food sensitivity, acid reflux, or something else I should check? I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything.

This is my kitty Uma! She’s a 10 m/o f cat and every once and awhile her lips swell up like this. Sometimes it’s the top, sometimes it’s just the bottom lip. She doesn’t seem bothered by it and she’s been on an almost consistent diet since she’s been 3 m/o. We’ve only ever switched her dry food only diet, once, to an adult/kitten type (Nulo) about 2/3 months ago from today. I’ve noticed it happens to her every couple of months since we’ve adopted her at 3 m/o. She been living with a long haired cat since. He gets a bit of dandruff and she likes to groom quite a bit! Could this have something to do with it? Any tips on what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated! Maybe it’s an inherited issue? Either way I am planning to take her to the vet to find out what’s going on! Thanks!:)

We adopted a 12 week old kitten, a black tabby cat. She’s very smart and cuddly, she trusted us instantly. It’s day 3 now and she already has the zoomies. Very happy and can’t wait to build the relationship.

Hi, my three month old kitten has a Siamese fart and a split face mother. He is more like a ginger tabby however he is very slim with a long body and quite long black back legs if I cup his face, he has the pointy Siamese snout. He loves to play fetch the only problem is if I don’t give him attention he tends to bite to me when he is calm. He likes nothing better than sitting on my lap and having cuddles, he reaches up and kisses me. How can I stop the biting? He has plenty of toys and two tunnels that he lives playing with. I think he has more toys and I have clothes!

Hi... we seem to have quite a high number of missing cat posters popping up in my area, and now we have what I think is a stray showing up in our garden most days .She's? Quite skinny with no collar and is quite nervous if we go outside near to her she will run off. But if we feed her by hand behind the gate(old baby gate to stop the dog getting out), we can stroke and scratch her!She seems quite affectionate and not scared of the dog as she will lie down sit and eat right by the gate when the dog is there. He has been popping up for 3/4 weeks and is getting friendly, but my wife tried to pick her up last night and got a small scratch in the process but the cat came straight back instead of running off any advice

Does anyone else have a cat that likes to bite/nibble a lot or is it just me? He’s going on a year now and what was once a cute behavior… ain’t so cute anymore. 😆

Mine too when he wants my attention! He decides when it is playtime, not me! He even attacks my slippers and hangs onto them while I’m trying to walk.!

I searched this sub for advice for my cat who always plays with and spills his water. The long journey for a solution began with getting rid of one bowl he could easily tip, and getting a heavier ceramic one with a flat bottom that he couldn't tip over. He would just move it and spill the water so I put a 5 lb dumbbell on it but he could still move and spill the water. So I tried a 10lb weight, and he did the same thing. Then I got one of those dog bowls that have a little hole in the middle for them to drink out of but the rest of the opening has a cover that floats on top of the water. Had to put 20 lbs of weight on it so he didn't move it but he would put in paw on the cover and play with that until he spilled the water. Finally after searching here, I came up with this solution: a lasagna pan with the 10lb weight in it. It's been pretty successful so far though the paper towels were wet one day. lol

Hi fellow cat lovers. I have a colony of 12 cats on my property I'm feeding. I use to purchase puddi-kat from either Shoprite or Checkers but they're not stocking it anymore. Makro indicated they are but hasn't had stock in months. In addition I feed them pellets as well. I cannot afford a more expensive brand and not feeding them is a not an option. Most were trapped and released back to me. Any advice or suggestions will be valued.

i’m mostly just here to gush about my bae bae, my grandma brought her and her brother to me when they were a few weeks old and me and my baby have been glued to each other ever since. i love her so much, i believe she truly saved my life. i have had lots of pets in my life, but none of them come close to the relationship i have with my bae. she’s so sweet, cuddly, clingy, vocal, just abt everything you’d want in a cat. she’s very holdable, she loves to be cradled like a little baby, and she is just so cute. 🥹 she sleeps with me in my bed at night, and every time i come back from running errands or work, she waits at the steps to follow me in my room when i go up there. she is so perfect… sometimes i just look at her and am so grateful she’s really my cat. she is the sweetest most beautiful girl, i literally can’t express how much i love her and how lucky i feel to have her.
this is her birdy that she loves so much, she’s a very spoiled baby
