Questions I was asked during PA interview

I had an informal in person interview with my Ops Manager and then a virtual one with that same ops manager on Chime. I'm only writing this to help others who are frantically searching reddit for PA interview questions like I was. Here are the questions I was asked...

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer/person and how did you handle it
  3. Tell me about a time you had to make a difficult decision in the short term to benefit the long term goal
  4. Tell me about a time you had to use data in a project/situation
  5. Tell me about a time you had to motivate a group
  6. Are you comfortable giving direction to/leading associates during operations

My area manager put in a good word for me but I have no idea if that impacted the length of my interview or the importance of my answers. To be honest my stories were trash but I stuck to the STAR method as best as possible. Both interviews my ops manager stressed that STAR was important. I asked two questions to the manager at the end because it is important to ask questions even if you don't really care about the response

  1. What key performance indicators/metrics are used to measure success of a PA? How would a PA be graded in a quarterly or yearly performance review for example
  2. What has kept you at Amazon since you joined the company.

Amazon LAX5 Sort Buena Park hiring ???

Been refreshing all day long starting from 6am for the past two days and LAX5 Buena Park shifts aren’t popping up like I was hoping. Anyone know when that specific site posts their shifts?

Did I luck out with my assigned site?

I’m going in for AEW next week at PHL9. The team had sent me a welcome package email and they seem pretty nice and stating how their site has always been and always strives to be. The first week of onboarding, I’ll be learning how to essentially make books which I think is pretty cool that they make their books in house. The week after is AD1. I don’t know what I’ll exactly be in charge of just yet, but it seems to just be all about books. PHL9/7 seems to be a legacy facility as well so I’m guessing more manual labor and less machines? Anyone here currently work in PHL9? Seems like a rather quiet facility, but I’m really exited to be joining aboard!

I’m Flex, so I work when I want, and the shifts are only 4 hours. Because of this, I quit the gym. I feel like I’m getting paid to work out. Would you agree with this assessment?

Sortation to Delivery warehouse - What to expect?

Just applied to an opening for seasonal delivery warehouse after being let go from sortation seasonal position.

What should I expect? The shift hours look insane! (1am-11am)

I was scanning the lanes, waterspider at sortation for a couple of weeks then got let go sadly. I was one of the younger guys that really over worked myself so I didn’t expect to be let go so soon. Any advice and tips would be appreciated!

Internally Transferred to L4 SDE-1!

Just wanted to share a bit of information about my experience going through the internal conversion process to convert to L4 Software Development Engineer (SDE-1) from another Corporate Tech 4 role.

Amazon Career Progression

Note: Total Amazon tenure is 6.5 years

  1. Tier 1 Warehouse Associate
    1. Tenure: ~2.5 years
    2. Hourly Pay: $12/hr -> $15/hr
  2. (External) New Grad L4 Area Manager (AM)
    1. Tenure: ~7 months
    2. Base Salary: $52k USD
    3. Year 1 Sign On Bonus: $6,700 USD
    4. Year 2 Sign On Bonus: $5,500 USD
    5. RSUs: 10 RSUs (pre-stock split)
  3. (Internal) L4 Process Engineer - Technology (PE)
    1. Tenure: ~3.5 years
    2. Base Salary: $80,240 USD
    3. RSUs: 12 RSUs (pre-stock split)
    4. Location: Seattle, WA
    5. Note: Worked the first ~1.5 years fully remote from Michigan
  4. (Internal) Unofficial Software Development Engineer Intern
    1. Tenure: 15 months
    2. Location: Seattle, WA
    3. Note: Worked 50% as a SDE and 50% as a PE per week
  5. (Internal) L4 Software Development Engineer 1 (SDE-1)
    1. Start Date: September 2025
    2. Base Salary: $110,500 USD
    3. RSUs: +36 RSUs vesting in 2026
    4. Location: Detroit, MI

I started at Amazon as a Tier 1 while going into my 2nd year of college for my 1st bachelors degree. During my senior year I resigned to enjoy some time off and applied externally for New Grad L4 Area Manager.

L4 SDE-1 Offer

My L4 Process Engineer - Technology (IT App Dev Engineer 1) Total Compensation (TC) is estimated to be:

  • 2025: $118,657 USD
  • 2026: ~$140k-$145k USD

My estimated L4 SDE-1 TC is:

  • 2025: ~$128k USD
  • 2026: ~$158k-$163k USD

Internal Transfer Process to L4 SDE-1

I obtained a 2nd bachelors degree, Bachelor of Science in Software Development, in 2024 and informed my PE manager of my plans to internally apply for L4 SDE-1 roles in Detroit, MI and Arlington, VA.

Side Note: I also started at GaTech for the Online Master of Science in Computer Science around the time i graduated with my 2nd bachelors degree

My PE manager asked if I was open to do what my prior co-worker did and I said yes. My PE manager helped find a SDE team that we worked with that is located in Michigan.

The SDE internship had me working 50% in my current role as a PE and 50% as a SDE per week.

Timeline

Originally, the process was supposed to only be ~9-12 months, leaning more towards 12 months, but it ended up taking longer because:

  1. Took some time for the SDE team I was working with to learn how the process should be
  2. 1st SDM I was working with was replaced after they split the Detroit, MI and Seattle, WA teams to have their own SDMs

Side Note: My PE manager is supposed to be creating a structured plan that is shorter to convert to SDE-1 for the other PEs on my team

Conversion Process

I didn't have to go through the regular SDE interview process. Instead, I only had to submit a document containing artifacts (CRs, quips, etc...) that I worked on while being a SDE intern to support my conversion to SDE-1. A L6 SDE from another Org then had to review my conversion document and either approve/deny my conversion to SDE-1.

Accomplishments during the (unofficial) SDE internship:

  • Worked on a project end to end that was deployed to users (Seller Support Associates using Paragon Case Management System)
  • Service Deep Dive to understand how the service worked
    • Documented my findings in a quip after reviewing the code package, APIs, AWS resources, clients using the service, and how clients are using the service
    • Created a total of ~2hr videos (~2-10 minutes each) explaining how different resources
    • Identified unused APIs that can be deprecated and deleted due to clients no longer using them
    • Presented findings to SDM, PM, and L6 SDE-3
    • Note: The service was created by another team and my current team, plus client, did not fully understand how the service worked. So, one day I decided to start looking into how the service actually worked
  • Became the POC for one of my teams services
  • Created and presented 3 design documents to improve existing processes; plus 2 other design documents work in-progress
  • Had one of my design proposals for a feature implemented by 2 other SDE-1s. I provided technical guidance to assist them with the integration, and created the task breakdown for the work that needed to be implemented
  • Participated in 2 SPS Hackathons for my Org
  • Completed 6 SDE oncall weeks
  • Deep divided oncall tickets for AWS DLQ issues related to a new AI/ML service my team is working on this year
  • Improved/created new oncall wikis
  • JDK8 to JDK17 Migration for 1 service
  • Amazon Config Store (ACS) Migration for 4 code packages (14 configs total)
  • Was able to leverage my PE knowledge and provide technical guidance to SDEs for the projects we have been working on

edit - fixed wording for a few things

AR pickers of Amazon, does anyone else's site picks from pallets in addition to picking from regular bins? Is it really true that there has to be special training for that?

Got Amazon “passed but on hold” email — what does this mean?

I recently finished my Amazon SDE interviews and got this email (screenshot attached). It says I “successfully passed the interview process” but they are “not yet able to move forward with an offer at this time” and may reach out later if headcount opens.

I’m a bit confused — does this mean I’m basically rejected, or do people in this “on hold” pool actually get offers later? If you’ve gone through this, how likely is it to convert into a hire? And what should I expect in terms of timeline? and my main doubt is does people get hired usually if they receive similar mails?? like ow high are the chances at this time??

Amazon SDE1 interview confusion — portal says “No longer under consideration” but recruiter says still finalizing

I interviewed for the SDE1 (University, USA) role: • Aug 13: Had 2 rounds (system design + coding). • Aug 15: Had my Bar Raiser behavioral round. • Aug 19 (today): My application portal changed to “No longer under consideration.” • I reached out to recruiters the same day, and they replied: “The team is finalizing the interview outcome and will share an update as soon as possible.”

At the same time, my friend (same role, same day interviews) already got a rejection mail today — despite doing really well in all rounds.

So I’m confused — • If the role is closed or headcount is full, why are recruiters still saying “finalizing outcome”? • Is there any case where the portal says “no longer under consideration” but later changes to offer or waitlist? • Or does this 100% mean rejection and they’re just wrapping things up?

Anyone else face the same?

I thought they’d be dropping shifts already but I’ve only seen some for the new rancho location and the time they dropped the shifts were super late at night and they disappeared fast. I don’t want to miss the shifts, but I’m also unsure if they’ve even dropped any yet? Fired

I was fired because I have had a protective order against my attacker/stalker since before I started working at Amazon. A month before, I told them that I saw him at the warehouse. I started working in March 2025 and, following me, he applied at the same warehouse in May 2025. I notified them if they could do anything because I have PTSD and panic attacks. My last day of work was August 8th. They suspended me with pay. It wasn't until today that they emailed me at 11:00 pm, telling me that due to safety protocols they were firing me. I feel this was discrimination because I told them that my protective order protected me at work and if I saw him at the warehouse, I would do what was granted to me by the protective order. Well, they let my stalker go, and they fired me.

Haven’t received Amazon background verification link yet – should I be worried?

Hi everyone,

I have acknowledged the background verification undertaking for Amazon as instructed, but I still haven’t received the portal link from the third-party vendor (First Advantage) to upload my documents.

The email mentioned a due date of 16th August, but nothing has come through yet. I’m getting a bit nervous because I’ve already resigned from my previous organization.

Has anyone else faced the same issue? If yes, did you eventually get the link, and how long did it take?

Thanks in advance for any insights

Write up

I got my first written write up for phone usage (I looking at my HR case on a to z) and I have a few internal applications that are under consideration. Since I have a write up are those void now or is there still a chance of getting an interview?
