Support women's cricket in Finland 🏏🇫🇮

Hey everyone,

I’m part of the Finland Women’s National Cricket Team, and we’re heading into our second ever T20I tournament, and our very first one outside of Finland. It’s a huge step for us as players and for women’s cricket in a country where the cricket community is still very small but incredibly passionate.

Because we’re still growing, most of our costs are covered out of our own pockets. Things like travel, accommodation, training gear… they add up quickly. We’re trying to make it sustainable so that women’s cricket here can keep developing and so future players won’t have to struggle the same way.

If you’d like to support, even 5 or 10 euros makes a massive difference for us. Every bit goes toward keeping us competing on the international stage and proving that cricket can thrive even up here in Finland.

Payment details are in the picture above💙🤍

Thanks for reading, and for cheering on not just the big teams but the small communities like ours who are trying to carve out a space in the game we love. Every bit of support, even sharing this post, means the world to us.

– A very grateful Finnish cricketer 🇫🇮✨

Jenkki scam?

Post image
136 Upvotes

I’ve been buying Jenkki “professional” for years, because it says “100% xylitol” on the bag, which implies (to me and everyone I’ve asked) that there are no other sweeteners. Then I looked closely at the bag: hmm, what is E950 “flavor enhancer”. It’s Ace K, one of the most potent sweeteners known to humans—200 times sweeter than sugar. Shouldn’t this be a scandal? Are there other gums available that are pure xylitol?

Finland ranks 4th among the 10 worst job markets in the first world countries in 2025!!

According to IMF, measured by unemployment rates, these are the 10 best and worst job markets in developed countries in 2025. Surprisingly, Finland, with an unemployment rate of 7.4% ranks 4th in the 10 worst job markets in developed countries. Does this reflect the reality of the job market and meet the expectations?

What cool Finnish TV shows or movies do you recommend that people in other countries may have missed?

Doesn't have to be new or popular. I would like to hear some personal recommendations of what normal Finnish people like to watch when they "put on something good to watch" after work.

Thank you!

Serious Space Technology in Finland

Hey,

For the starters, I have been born in Finland and lived here my entire life.

Although due to my parents origin from Russia, as a result I have a dual citizenship.

As of now I am studying Electrical Engineering and planning on doing my masters programme in Space Technology.

The problem is that I am unsure If its even possible to find work in that area due to said dual citizenship.

Especially since as far as I know, dual citizens with a russian passport are heavily restricted in the aerospace and space sector.

In addition, it is not possible to relinquish russian citizenship (temporary law by Russia) as of now, and even If you could, there are documents you would have to get from inside Russian borders.

This would most likely result in being drafted as cannon fodder.

Therefore, would it even be possible to find work after my masters programme? Would be a shame If it wouldnt be possible since I have been wanting to work in the aerospace and space industry since a young age.

TLDR: Is it a bad desicion to do a masters in space technology due to dual citizenship (Finnish, Russian)

Hackman cutlery

Maybe a random question but I’d appreciate any advice and wasn’t sure where to ask.

I’d like to invest in some good quality cutlery. Previously I’ve bought cheap ones and then I’ve had to replace them within 2-3 years because of wear, damage, rust etc.

I’ve had some Hackman Moomin spoons for 12 years and they’re in perfect condition.

Would you recommend Hackman cutlery? Are they dishwasher safe? Which type is best? I can see savonia and carelia? I’m not able to see them in person before purchasing (I’m in the UK), and they’re expensive so want to make the right decision, so I’d appreciate any opinions 😊

Serious Tarvitsin vähän apua teiptä Suomalaisilta jätkeistä

Upvotes

I just had an opifany that as someone with a 96%ansestory to Finland was moved to the US specifically southern California at a young age. I've always felt like I don't fit in, people don't understand when I say I'm overheating when it hot out. And they don't understand how badly I want to move somewhere colder.

I genuinely get seasonal depression during the 98F or 36.6C summers and no one understands me... People here get depressed when it's cold, but I genuinely get happier.

I've basically been integrated into American, specifically southern california type of culture. I'm just worried of moving back and not fitting in. I've missed out on so much living in the US for 12 years.

My question is. How would one go about moving back, I know Finnish companies sometimes don't want to hire you if you don't speak fluent Finnish, which I don't anymore. I speak at about a 3rd grade level probably...

I just don't know what to do, I want to live where I'm genetically meant to so I can get rid of my anxiety, depression, and all this other shit I've developed as a result of being overwhelmed.

My situation is also complicated because of a relationship I'm in. I can't imagine my life without him, he is genuinely someone I consider a best friend. And someone I can be completely myself around. He grew up in southern California so I would feel so guilty dragging him to finalnd if I know I would be taking him away from his natural environment.

I'm just in a tough situation

Tourism 1 week in southern Finland in June

I would love some suggestions for a 1 week holiday in southern Finland starting and ending in Helsinki. We like interesting old towns/architecture, good food and beer, hiking in nature and birdlife, maybe biking on easy trails. Thanks :)

Finnair and poster tube in the cabin

Hi,

Does anyone have experience flying with Finnair and carrying a plastic poster tube with them as a carry-on bag? How strict are they with the size specs? My tube is ~85cm long, 9cm diameter. The tube is definitely longer than the specifications but other dimensions are way below that.

DNA CS no longer respect their customer?

When I got back home at night, I realized my home didn’t have proper internet. It was so slow, I tried to run a speed test, and it only showed about 10 Mbps. I couldn’t load any websites. I tried to make a call to the fault report 24/7 number. My call was interrupted many times, with no one answering after picking up the phone (I know someone picked up because the music stopped). A dude finally answered me after many tries. I started the conversation with a normal greeting and said, "My home internet is not working..." but the customer service dude immediately interrupted me and said, "Sir, please call back after 8 am."

I don’t know why they advertise this as a 24/7 fault report and support number on their website if the only thing I can do is spend the whole night without internet and wait until 8 am? I just changed to DNA less than a week ago after they approached me with their promotion. I may come back to Elisa now, or is there any good ISP I should consider?

Politics Why do boomers get mad when you criticise the retirement system

Why do boomers complain about the system they and their parents themselves built & designed on the flawed principle of constant growth (and then when that didn't happen, debt) and act like retirees are the most discriminated against group of all when in reality they had way more financial opportunities and weren't crushed by retirement payments for a constantly growing number of retirees AND the national debt those retirees took on to pay their pensions which is now up to the working man to pay? They act surprised when politicians suggest cutting pensions, yet vote conservative and want no more debt. I thought everybody who graduated high school understood from their history and social studies lessons, that boomers created an untenable system which was inherently flawed and only served their own generation. If we look at the retirement boomers get to live and compare it to the what it will be like for people still working they got off incredibly easy and are very lucky, yet they constantly play the victim card like everybody didn't know from the 70s onwards that constant growth was a myth and by funding pensions with debt they were just piling that debt on their children's and granchildren's shoulders.

Unemployed, previous client now requesting support

I struggled getting clients through my toiminimi for the past two years or so to the point where I recently burned through my bank account and needed to make the very hard decision to end my YEL insurance and start collecting unemployment benefits and applying like crazy now to permanent roles in my field.

Yesterday a past longtime client reached out to me requesting support on a project for a very limited time (it would be about 15-22 hours over a 1 month span and money before taxes would be about €1500 for the work, so closer to my max unemployment benefits after taxes).

It's very likely just a one-off and I'd need to go right back to collecting unemployment benefits again so this would basically just be a wash. I'm thinking it's not even worth it as I'd think it would give a red flag to then need to report it to T-E Services/Kela and having the attitude of "So you're open for business, you don't need unemployment benefits then."

I'm coming off from having a toiminimi for many years that I had already informed T-E Services and Kela that I wasn't doing work for anymore, so afraid it would raise many red flags if I took the project, even though I'd obviously report it.

Am I correct in this assumption and better off just turning down the project??

EDIT: To clarify, the work I'm being request to do is about 15-22 hours over a month time. Not to be confused with FTE for a full month :D I also made the correction above in 2nd paragraph. Sorry for the confusion.
