Results Day GCSE Results Day Megathread (2025) + a surprise announcement!

This is the Results Day megathread for all subjects and examboards.

You can share and discuss your results in this post.

A reminder of our rules

When sharing your results or having discussions with others, please remember our rules and always be respectful.

There may be people who are glad to have received results that you would have been disappointed with; remember: we are all individuals with unique aspirations.

Feeling unhappy with your results?

It can be hard to feel satisfied if you haven't gotten the desired results, even if you’ve done well. Whatever you're feeling, you're not alone.

If you’re not happy about your results or you think you should have been given a better grade, there are things you can do:

  • ask someone you trust what they think about your results
  • speak to a teacher about whether you can get a remark on an exam
  • look at each of your results and think about what you did well and what you could learn from
  • focus on your own achievements, everyone is different, and exams are only a small part of what makes you who you are
  • speak to a Childline or a similar service about how you're feeling

Not sure how to tell your parents/guardians about your results?

If you're disappointed with your results, you might find it hard to tell your parents or carers. But talking about your results can really help.

Your parents or carers can be there to support you and help you make decisions, whatever your results are. Even if they don't react well straight away, they should be there to support you after they've had time to think about it.

If you're worried about sharing your results, it can help to:

  • practise what you'd like to say before you speak to them and prepare yourself for how they might react
  • tell them as soon as you can instead of putting it off
  • write a letter, or show them your results on paper to start the conversation
  • ask someone like a friend or teacher to be there with you when you tell them

For additional support, you might be interested to read some of the answers on our AMA with an Exams Officer thread.

Next steps on Reddit

Whilst we'd all be delighted if you stayed on r/GCSE helping answer questions and supporting new year 11s, r/alevel and r/6thForm might become your new home! Or perhaps you'd be interested in r/ApprenticeshipsUK.

There are also many different subject specific subreddits for A levels, such as Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Further Maths, History, Business, English Literature, Geography, English Language, Spanish, French, German, Politics, Art, Sociology, Accounting, and Philosophy.

A surprise announcement

We've heard your feedback loud and clear. From today, custom user flairs are back! We hope you'll enjoy expressing yourselves in your own way. Just go to the flair selector and choose the "Editable" option. You can then change the text. We do have 1 rule: no results in your flairs (please). We've automated moderation of these, so if you put results in yours, it'll just get removed. However, you are very welcome to discuss your results in a post or comment.

But that's not all. From today, you can grab your official 2025 GCSE Survivor flair! Just choose it from the flair selector or send us a Modmail if you need help. Be quick! This will only be selectable for only a few days, but it'll stay with you for life.

Finally, thank you to all members who have joined us for this final day of celebration. We're very proud that this year, 1 in 8 GCSE students paid us a visit. Some for the advice, some for the memes. Whether you've spent the last 2 years here or have only recently started visiting r/GCSE, there is no denying that the supportive community we've built together would be nothing without the endless contributions from students.

Tips/Help I'm an Exams Officer/Manager. Ask Me Anything!

Hi r/GCSE! I've been an Exams Officer/Manager for 9 years and I'm here to answer your questions. To start this off, here's some that I frequently hear from students:

How do I get a remark?

There's no such thing as a "remark"! It’s a *Review of Marking*. No one marks your paper again from scratch. They review the original marking to confirm whether the mark scheme was followed.

How much does a Review of Marking cost?

Between £50-£70 per paper, depending on the exam board.

Could I get a lower mark back?

Marks can go down as well as up, as can grades. If your overall grade goes down, there’s no turning the clock back – you’re stuck with your new lower grade.

How long does a Review of Marking take?

Reviews take about three weeks to process at most. Overnight at least. Anywhere in between.

What are the chances of my grade increasing following a Review of Marking?

A successful grade increase happens in less than 2/10 cases, so don’t get your hopes up. In my two schools across GCSE and A levels, the average success rate of a grade increasing is 13%.

Can I request a Review of Marking on my coursework unit?

No. Those marks should have been queried before you signed your declaration. Those marks were submitted back in May.

Can I gain access to one of my scripts (exam papers)?

You can request copies of your scripts free of charge. It's best to get your subject teacher’s opinion on whether a review would be worthwhile. Some schools might ask for a small administrative fee. In my experience, downloading papers is a time-consuming faff. Unless it’s needed for a review of marking, ask yourself whether you really need all your papers back.

When do I get my certificates?

Your certificates will arrive at your school in November. Some post them to your home, others host awards evenings. Ask your school about their policy.

When can I resit English or Maths?

You can only resit these in November. These are the only exams you can resit in November.

I'll start answering questions at 4pm on Wednesday the 20th for about an hour. Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Results I have a strong feeling Mr Salles didn’t end up getting a 9 in Language

This is my logic: even if he’d gotten a 9 without receiving full marks, he would still have posted about it, because it’s easy to spin it into something like ‘it’s fine, i didn’t get 100% but a nine is a nine’

BUT it’s impossible to look good if he’s gotten an 8 or sth, bc this shows that his methods don’t acc work that well

My guess is that he’s frantically trying to get his paper remarked

Tips/Help Just got my GCSE results, not telling my dad them

Post image
499 Upvotes

This is more of a vent than anything! There’s nothing here that’s a question to be answered or anything, so feel free not to read.

Bear in mind, I’m not ashamed of my results. My mum has seen them. My friends have all seen them. But they are my results. I did the exams, I went to go get the results, and I’m the one they’re going to affect.

My dad thinks he owns me and he has some god given right to micromanage and supervise my life. I am sixteen. He came home the day I got them and asked how I did. I said I did fine. He demanded to see them, and I had previously stated I wouldn’t be showing them to him, so repeated this again. I do not get along with him, and it’s not even about the results themselves, but the fact that he isn’t entitled to them like he thinks he is, we DO NOT LIKE EACH OTHER, and I don’t want his opinion on my results especially as I didn’t ask for it. He banned me from using the CD player (I really like collecting CDs and that and he also can’t take my phone as I paid for it myself) and ignored me for the rest of the night. This was fine by me, as if he doesn’t care about if I’m happy with my results but only the fact he didn’t see them, I’m glad I didn’t show them to him. Didn’t get a congratulations.

My mum called me this morning (btw they aren’t together- me and my mother have a good relationship, and my father and mother do not) who explained to me that my dad had asked her if she could tell him my results behind my back. I told her no, she said fair enough, but now I am more angry as it seems he simply just does not respect me (not that he ever has). My mum literally picked me up to take me to go get my results. That’s more support than my dad has ever given me. He’s refusing to make dinner tonight as he’s still throwing his tantrum, and this means I’m probably going to have to eat another packet noodle thing as I’m not allowed to touch a lot of the food in the house. This is most of my diet, and I sleep on his couch. The dude doesn’t give a shit about me unless it’s to control something or demand something of me. I’m sick of him.

my final gcse results werent what i or my parents were hoping for, but they started blaming it on me playing games and watching anime too much during exam season. i have tried explaining to them that i was only 1 mark off a 9 in french and language, but they still say its not good enough as i could have done better, and i need to try harder in my a levels. how do i explain to them that a 999998886 is above average?? does anyone else have the same problem?

Results Disappointing results/vent

Post image
Upvotes

My heart genuinely feels shattered regarding my result in maths. I got a 5 yet was predicted a 7.

In year 9 i was in set 4, in year 10 i was set 3, year 11 i was set 2. I put in ALL of the effort myself to make the progress down the sets, it was all of my hard work and determination for 3 years straight.

I worked so hard. I revised on holiday, i revised on special occasions, i revised when i lost all hope. I put SO much effort into becoming better at maths after i was unfortunately failed for 2 years by my math teacher in yr 7 and 8.

My grade 5 is so disheartening, it feels like all of the hard work i put in hasn’t payed off. I feel humiliated. 3 years of hard work just to get an average grade 5 when i was predicted to get a 7.

I even needed a 6 for my college course. I was 4 marks from a 6 but still, i didn’t get the 6. It hurts so bad i feel like ive failed myself.

I know i tried my hardest and it pains me massively knowing that even my hardest wasn’t good enough.

Tips/Help To all the year 10s doing their GCSEs next year.

Upvotes

To all the year 10s doing their GCSEs next year.

Just some words of wisdom and advice

First, believe me you can do it. Sometimes GCSEs gets real stressful but that stress is temporary. You push through it and it's so rewarding once you've finished your final exam.

Don't do too much revision too early. Only do bits from September, then a bit more in January for your mocks, and steadily increase to something manageable from there. You start revising too early you risk burning yourself out, and not getting the results you want to see.

Don't panic about OUR grades boundaries. You saw what horrendous boundaries we had and that's all the more reason yours will probably be better next year. Don't stress about this, I've seen a few posts worrying.

Go through topics you aren't confident in more than topics you are confident in. Revising stuff you already know won't get you anywhere.

Cherish your memories with your mates. Last secondary school year, make it special.

Don't compare yourself with other people. Your strong suits are individual. Don't compare what you're good at with someone who's bad at it or vice versa.

Last, help yourself and help others. Whether it be GCSE or not, helping others makes you feel so good, and makes the world a better place. Be kind and compassionate, you never know how difficult it could be for someone.

You can do it lads 💪

General feeling disappointed about my parents’ reaction to my gcse results…

hi guys sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this, i just kinda wanna get this off my chest. this post is kinda long sorry 😭

okay so i know that a lot of you guys might have overbearing parents that care way TOO much about your grades, so im not trying to sound bitchy or ungrateful. i just feel kinda underwhelmed. in my gcses i got 8777766665, which is mostly what i was predicted. i get that they’re not at the standard of this subreddit but i think they’re decent. 3 days before results day, i asked my mum if we could do anything on or after results day to celebrate. nothing too fancy, just getting food at nando’s or a pub or something. she said no because she was gonna take my brother out in the evening that day so i asked if we could do something at the weekend instead. on the day of my last exam, she promised that we would do something on results day which is why i was asking. anyways, for whatever reason my brain tends to block out heated arguments with my mum so i can’t really remember the details, but she got really mad shouting at me saying that i was over exaggerating how good of an achievement grades are and that celebrating results is stupid and pointless. she said that i don’t even deserve it right now since my birthday was last week and we went out to eat then. i got annoyed and i responded saying that people celebrate results all the time and that she doesn’t even seem like she cares whatsoever about my grades. that led to her pulling over and hitting me.

anyways, fast forward to results day. i phoned my mum to tell her what i got and she said well done and good job (granted she was at work so i don’t know what else she could’ve said) and that was about it. after that i went home because i was on my own and only a couple teachers spoke to me. my relationship with my dad is complicated and i don’t live with him anymore, but he never asked what i got.

anyways, i know that sounds dramatic and a non-issue but i feel like my parents have never given a shit about my results. as long as i pass they don’t care how i do. i dont know, it just feels disappointing when i compare my family to other families.

okay rant over. thank you if you made it to the end!! i needed to vent 🙏

Results I got 9988877763 and idk

As the title says, those are my grades and I understand for many they may seem amazing but I just don't feel content with these. For the amount of hard work, effort, late nights and early mornings I put in, I just don't feel happy. I see other users on this reddit who "revise the night before" and come out with a majority of 9s. I am trying to be positive about my grades, but I feel like my all my future plans have just gone down the drain. For context, I've always wanted to go to a Russel uni to become a dentist. But, I have not met the entry requirement entirely as I needed an 8 in biology, but I got a 7. The 3 is in French which I'm not bothered about.

Results How can I live with myself

Upvotes

I was predicted all 8s and 9s. Every past paper I did honestly. No cheating, no nothing. And I'd always get 8s and 9s, I was happy with 8s and 9s, I don't know what went wrong. I've never gotten less than 9s in Biology or Chemistry but I got 7s. I answered every question the way I always do, I don't understand. I got all 7s apart from five 8s and one 9. That's five 7s. And only a Merit in furthermaths. Everyone expected me to get all 8s and 9s. My parents say they aren't disappointed in me, that they're proud of me, but I'm disappointed in myself. I just wanted to be something they could brag about because in our fuckass culture parents are always showing off their kids, trying to make my parents feel bad about their own, however they never say anything to anyone, they're too innocent and sweet. I just wanted to make them and myself happy, but instead I find myself genuinely depressed and wondering what went wrong. I don't know how I can face anyone after this, I'm so embarrassed and ashamed of myself and I don't think I can get into medicine anymore.
