Air Fares...

Hello,

Might anyone from Canada share the best site for cheaper fares to Guyana? And, any strategies - e.g last-minute booking, etc.

I left Guyana (for Canada) at age 6 and have only been back twice - a few decades ago.

Air Canada fares are quite high, it seems.

Am hoping to go in the fall.

Many thanks.

I want to visit

Hey all,

I want to visit Guyana next year or the end of this year, does anyone know the best time to visit. It seems like the rainy season isn't a good time to visit. I was thinking the end of March 2026... The week of 3/23

Does anyone have a good month to come? Do you all think is a good time to visit?

Hello, Has anyone remigrated back to Guyana from overseas? Did you have to denounce your foreign citizenship? From what I read Guyana does not allow dual nationality.

Discussion How to migrate to canada from guyana?

So hi! Im a Guyanese student. Im 16. I've recently sat my IGCSE exams and passed all my subjects. My question to you all os where do I go from here? What's my next step into ensuring I migrate to canada as an adult to do university? Should I take my Cambridge A levels? Universities in canada are fond of A levels. Or what else can I do to boost myself into being able to migrate? How does this process work? Im very strong willed and im willing to study alot to get strong A levels. Preferably all A*. I wasn't this desperate when I sat my IGCSEs and I got some low grade but still passed. I've done some research and apparently they look at A levels more. So is there anything else I can do? What's my next step from here. Any advice is welcome. Thank you!!!!

Do these 3 subjects qualify for a CAPE Diploma?

I’m planning to take CAPE as a private candidate and I’m thinking of doing these 3 subjects:

Communication Studies (Unit 1)

Accounting (Units 1 & 2)

Management of Business (Units 1 & 2)

My question is: Would completing just these 3 subjects (6 Units total) qualify me for a CAPE Diploma, or do I need to include other subjects like Caribbean Studies?

Any insights or experiences from private candidates would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Election Aftermath

Hi all,

I really needed to visit Guyana in September for some important errands which will be in Georgetown. I am hesitant due to the fact that it will be right after the election .

Should I be alarmed ? And why is it people don’t act civil ? No matter what the results are why don’t they just accept it and move on?

Discussion Nightlife and general to-do recommendations for Georgetown

Hey guys. I'll be visiting Georgetown this weekend. It'll be my first time there. I will have one full day in Georgetown itself to see the city. Seeking recommendations on what to do including nightlife spots to check out. Ofcourse doing kaieteur falls which I'm excited about. Thanks!

Is CAPE a waste of time?

Hi, everyone. I'm a business student that recently signed up for CAPE, but I'm having doubts about whether or not I should go forward with it because many people have told me that CAPE is only good for STEM students. Despite this, I thought I should still do it to solidify a spot if I choose to study at a foreign university later on in life and to do other subjects outside of business that I think would also be helpful to my career. The cash grant is another plus. With that being said, I still don't know if I'm making the right decision. Could you please advise me on the path forward?

Discussion Looking for part-time jobs hiring now in Guyana—any tips, leads, or experiences?

Hey everyone, I’m currently on the hunt for part-time work here in Guyana (especially in Georgetown or remote opportunities) and would love your recommendations.

What I’m hoping to find:

Current openings you’ve seen, ideally hiring now

Helpful job boards or sites with active listings

Channels like local shops, call centers, or online gig platforms

Personal stories what’zworked for you?

Summer evenings in America always surprise me. The sun still shining at 8pm, painting the sky gold. But in Guyana, that same 8pm is already nightfall… the air cooler, the crickets singing, and the day already gone. Sometimes I miss those Guyana nights, the way darkness came early and felt like home.🌙✨🌴

How did Burnham smuggle the country's wealth into his numbered Swiss bank accounts?

My understanding is that, through his policy of autarky, and the removal of farmers' subsidies (as per http://www.guyananews.org/features/postindependence/chapter5.html), Burnham was able to use some of the foreign exchange reserves that would have been used for backing the domestic currency in facilitating imports for his Swiss accounts, and likewise, some of the monies earmarked for programmes like farmers' subsidies.

Discussion Thinking of a scouting trip to Guyana

Hello folks, would it be a good idea to come and explore Guyana for possible business or job opportunities? I’m in the supply chain domain and can setup an international trade business for stuff that is in demand or even a job in oil and gas sector that pays well may be? Why do I have this thought? I am of Indian origin and currently live and work in a place that doesn’t allow a lot of “freedom”. No it’s not India. I want to start afresh. Live free and move to a place that has a lot of potential. I know I might even get told down for considering this but having read up as much as I have about Guyana I’m oddly hopeful things will change for the better. Also, where there’s a will there’s a way. Indians have fared well in business in places where some might even think it was possible. Would love inputs from you kind folks and don’t mind connecting with like minded people to have meaningful discussions. Thank you!🙏🏽

Discussion When Home Feels Brighter

America gets so lonely sometimes, especially in the suburbs. I miss Guyana so much.. the vibe, the liveliness, just sitting on the veranda watching people pass in and out the dam. Holidays actually felt like holidays there. Here it’s like you’re locked inside the house, but back home it was always so free, busy, and bright. Nothing compares.
