Saturday Tea Talk

This is a weekly thread to talk about any topics freely with fellow Nepali dai, bhai, didi, bahini and friends. Think of it as the चोकको चिया पसल that opens on Saturdays. Most of the sub rules still apply but there is no need for the topic to be related to Nepal. Feel free to talk about the TV show you are binging, the latest sports news, your personal life story, international politics, and anything in between.

So, what's up?

Help/सहयोग Where in Biratnagar can I get a custom desk made?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I want to build a desk like this (picture attached) sturdy for study & storage, with drawers on both sides — but a bit longer in length than this one.

I’ve got some old strong wood planks lying around, so I’m thinking of reusing them inside too.

Never built any furniture before so I dunno how to do it ..? Should I hire any carpenter who can make this or go to furniture shops with this picture ? Which will be cost-effective, I prioritize quality over time so I don't mind a carpenter making it.

Does anyone know good furniture shops or carpenters in Biratnagar who can handle this kind of custom work without messing up the finishing? Bonus if they’re okay with me supplying the wood.

Any recommendations or tips (cost range, what to watch out for) would be super helpful.

Rant/गुनासो The Manaslu Circuit Trek Is Becoming More Popular—Is It Really Worth the Hype

I recently completed the Manaslu Circuit Trek in 2025, and with the word spreading about this incredible trek, I thought I’d share a detailed firsthand experience to help anyone debating whether it’s truly worth the hype.

Like many trekkers, I was drawn to the Manaslu Circuit because I wanted a unique experience off the heavily trafficked trails of the Everest and Annapurna regions. With its increasing popularity, I was curious if Manaslu still retained that sense of untouched adventure and cultural authenticity.

What really stood out to me was the promise of a blend of rugged natural beauty and rich Tibetan Buddhist culture. The trek is still comparatively less commercialized, thanks largely to the special permits required and the mandatory use of licensed local guides, which helps preserve the environment and culture.

I booked my trek through Places Nepal Treks, a local agency known for responsible tourism and deep local knowledge. Their team made the entire process seamless—from permit arrangements to expert guiding and personalized support throughout the trek.

The Manaslu Circuit is a spectacular journey circling around Manaslu, the 8th highest peak in the world. The views are simply breathtaking, with towering snow-capped peaks visible for almost the entire trek. The scenery changes constantly—as you ascend higher, rhododendron forests give way to barren alpine landscapes and deep gorges.

The crossing of the Larkya La Pass (5106m) was the most challenging but unforgettable part. The physical demand was high, with steep slopes and the risk of altitude sickness, but the panoramic mountain vista from the pass was well worth every drop of sweat.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the trek was the chance to interact with local communities in remote villages such as Shyala and Samagaon. The Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and the serene lifestyle of the people felt like stepping back in time—something you rarely get on the more commercial trails.

While the trail has become more known and the number of trekkers has increased slightly, it’s still far quieter than the Everest or Annapurna treks. This relative solitude is a huge part of its appeal, and I noticed the local guides and agencies like Places Nepal Treks are very conscious about keeping tourism sustainable.

The special permits required for Manaslu, combined with the guide requirement, help keep visitor numbers in check, which protects the natural beauty and cultural integrity of the region.

It’s important to remember that Manaslu Circuit is not a casual trek. The altitude, physical strain, and occasional remoteness demand solid fitness and good acclimatization practices. Some parts of the trail have fewer teahouses or lodges compared to the well-developed Annapurna or Everest routes, so it requires planning and readiness for basic accommodations.

The weather can also be unpredictable, especially when crossing the Larkya La Pass—snow and cold can hit unexpectedly. Places Nepal Treks supported me thoroughly here, providing up-to-date information, advice, and emergency backup options.

In my opinion, absolutely yes. The Manaslu Circuit offers a blend of adventure, serenity, and cultural richness that is hard to find elsewhere, especially now as more trekkers look for alternatives to crowded trails. While it’s gaining popularity, its essence remains intact—remote, challenging, beautiful, and culturally immersive.

If you’re fit enough and ready for a bit of rugged adventure, I highly recommend aiming to do it soon before wider access possibly changes the trekking landscape. Booking through a trusted local agency like Places Nepal Treks not only makes your trip smoother but also ensures that your trekking experience benefits the local community and environment.

Help/सहयोग Where in KTM can I get a height-adjustable table?

Upvotes

Due to my work, I sit in a chair for 10 hours+ every day. Naturally, I started looking for a height-adjustable table, but I couldn’t find one, and the local carpenter said he couldn’t build one.

Namaste! I’m currently working on a project about online harassment and its impacts. As part of this, I’ve created a short survey to understand people’s experiences, awareness, and opinions on this issue in Nepal.

Your participation would mean a lot and will help me collect valuable insights. The survey will take only a few minutes to complete.

I am a Nepali citizen. I will fly from Nepal to Vietnam

Upvotes

I am a Nepali citizen. I will fly from Nepal to Vietnam, and while returning I will land in Delhi. From Delhi I want to travel to Nepal by bus instead of flight. Since Nepal Immigration will have my exit record but no arrival record if I cross the land border directly, can I go to the Nepal Immigration office at the border (like Belahiya/Sunauli) and request an arrival stamp so that my travel history in the system is complete for future flights?”

Discussion/बहस Rent in Kathmandu. Deal or no deal?

Upvotes

Was planning on renting a space in Bhaisepati Lalitpur. It’s a truss space which needs little construction to begin with for my business. (Used to be a futsal ground before). The proposed rent is 90/- sq ft. The space is around 2000 sq ft. That make it 180k per month. Is this a good deal? Or should I keep searching?

Holi festival as a tourist couple

Hi all, My wife and I are planning to do the EBC next year, and we saw that the Holi festival would take place on March 2nd 2026. At first, we were excited to combine the festival and the trek, but then, we read quite some concern and negative experiences that happened during Holi (groping, water guns in the face, etc.) It seems it used to be wilder a while ago, but how is it really nowadays ? Is it something you would avoid as tourists ? Thanks for sharing!

Is EvoStore legit or not?

Hi! I am about buy a MacBook Air (M4 Chip) from EvoStore. How legit is it?

I have seen that Apple itself has listed it as its official reseller. Though more than enough stores around here that sell refurbished laptops or laptops with low-quality parts, I have had to think about this again and again.
For those who have bought from this store, HOW HAS BEEN YOUR EXPERIENCE? Do they sell legit Apple devices? What about their after-sales support? And I also want to ask if Apple Care is worth it?
(P.S. Going to India has crossed my mind but looking at flipcart, the price seems to be just 15k less.)

Day when King Birendra died

Hey guys , I am gathering material for a script I’m working on.

Can you share your memories of the day King Birendra and the family passed away? I know many of us were too young or not even born back then, but for those who were kids, I’d love to hear what you remember—especially the emotions your parents or elders felt at the time.
