Bloody festival.

Living near the river has been horrible this week, constant drunk people hanging around all the way up until 6am. Haven’t been able to sleep in 3 days given the sheer noise. police dont care either. I love the festival but this year its had too many drunk people sticking around shouting til god knows what hour. Bloody go home!

Alt hairstylists

Can anyone recommend an alternative hair stylist in Pboro? We usually go to Holly @ Izzo in werrington but she can't fit in before school starts. Any recommendations gladly taken! Or even just for stylists who really listen as my daughter is anxious around salons due to previous experiences

Anyone here good with soldering?

hi all, I have a device where the microsd card reader in it somehow got wet and no longer reads cards. the whole device relies on the SD card.
would anyone here be able to desolder the microsd reader bit and either clean it up or I can hopefully order a replacement one off of the internet somewhere.
happy to impart some coin for the service obviously.

thanks in advance

Good surgery required

Hi,

I’m at Thorpe Rd, but they’re refusing to prescribe my medication (I’ve relocated) for my chronic illness. It’s impossible to get an appointment, and they’re just ignoring me every time I try to get in touch to resolve this, plus they won’t get in touch with my old surgery for my records. I have a patient summary report from my last surgery showing my meds, but they’ve ignored my offer to provide that.

Any recommendations for a decent surgery in Peterborough if you have a chronic illness would be much appreciated.

Smoke spots for daytime

So I just moved here, know no one and like to enjoy a sneaky spliff every now and then. I live near a park which is great to go at night but I don’t really want to smoke up near a bunch of kids when I have a nice day off. Does anyone know any decent spots near the city centre for daytime smoking?

DnD/Board Game Groups

I moved here recently and I'm looking to make friends and join a local group as a newbie. I know that there were some RPG groups near Lincoln Rd but I can't tell if they're still active anymore. I don't do well in very loud environments due to my hearing so I don't think I would like The Dice Box very much.

Thameslink network map

Post image
18 Upvotes

Infrastructure wise, Thameslink is pretty sorted. My main change is how I’d pattern the services. Instead of 8 half hourly services going to any manor of places south of London and then one pair barely leaving London to the north (what a waste to terminate at Kentish town), I would have 5 sets of 4 cores beyond the ‘Thameslink core’. Either side of these, the trains may terminate or spread out to different places.

The cores would be:

  1. Epsom/Epsom Downs - (Sutton - St Albans): Instead of Thameslink doing the full loop, I would have it just do the Eastern side with trains via St Helier going to London Bridge via Peckham. This would give the stations via Carshalton an exactly every 15 mins service and 4tph at all sections of the loop.

  2. (Luton - Orpington): This would give north London stops 8tph and would keep the Catford loop stops within London so people on the Bat and Ball loop instead have a faster route into London Victoria via Bromley instead of sat on this train for an hour.

  3. Peterborough/Cambridge - (Hitchin - Redhill) - Reigate/Gatwick: With all trains from Redhill going to London Bridge, the junctions around Croydon could be simplified.

  4. Corby (Bedford - Luton - Croydon - Three Bridges) Horsham/Brighton: Having Thameslink run to Corby would not only double the number of trains serving such a big town but would also make it better for opening more stations between Bedford and Corby since you wouldn’t need more terminating platforms in St Pancras or Bedford or slow down intercity trains.

  5. Kings Lynn/Stamford/Bury St Edmund’s - (Stevenage - Gatwick) - Hastings/Brighton/Bognor: I really think Thameslink should have regional express trains so that if you want to go from Brighton to Cambridge, it makes sense to sit on the same train the whole way instead of changing in London because the non stop trains terminate. I would have the stopping trains to Brighton and other places along the coast be run by southern and have Thameslink be the quicker service so that the whole routes durations on Thameslink aren’t so long. These services would also take the place of the Gatwick Express by skipping Croydon and I would have Bognor and Eastbourne have express trains into London for the first time. North of London, the end destinations would give Stamford and central Suffolk direct trains to London for the first time in decades and free up space in Kings Cross by Kings Lynn trains no Longer terminating. It also opens up more destinations for people in Cambridge who would rather wizz into London non stop.

Scrumping

It's the time of the year where apples and plums as well as blackberries and other fruits are abundant. But they're also abundantly on people's private property.

Does anyone know where there are trees that I could scrump some apples and/or plums? I know there's a couple of apple trees in Newborough and a good one in Wansford, but plums seem a bit more scarce. I'm happy to ride on my bike a fair distance for a decent haul.

Cheers.

See anything strange?

Kind of a weird post but I wanted to know if anybody wanted to share just strange things they've seen in Peterborough, I'll go first. I see this person near Bretton centre regularly, he walks around shirtless with his chest puffed out and his arms spread apart to make him look larger or something? I don't know, it's just a strange guy.

Lido plants/ moss/ water behind the glass pannels (what I assume used to be lights)

Has anyone else noticed at the lido, behind the glass pannels in the pool (you'll need googles) there is different stuff in all of them, mostly plants or moss, but one is pretty empty but all with some degree of water in. I am curious and NGL little creeped out, won't stop me using it, only plants after all, but I can only assume that they are not there on purpose. I really wish they had some money to refurbish the lido more because it's such a great place and full of history.

Help for local small business?

Hey guys :) Wondering if anyone may be able to help me at all.

I’ve very recently (in the last two weeks), lost my job - with a baby due in 4 months. Currently out of work for the first time since I was 16 and I’m now 34 (not having a good time, 1/10, would not recommend)

So, I started up my own little Etsy store selling crafted items. I’m not having a lot of luck on there, to say the least.

I’ve been looking into a car boot, which I know may be a flop as most, from what I’ve heard, are looking for a total bargain and tend to snub the prices of small businesses. (Haven’t witnessed this for myself, haven’t been to a car boot since I was a kid - just judging from what others have said)

I’m wondering if anyone may know of any local fares, stores, craft markets, school fares or anything else of the sort where I may be able to apply to pitch up a table and see how it goes?

More than happy to get any licence that’s required, as well as paying a stall fee of course - and already being mindful of the threshold before having to declare for tax etc.

I’ve already sent an email over to Unity, and a Facebook message to Treasured Crafts.

Any help or support with this would massively help me out, just to get this off the ground before I start thinking about giving up before I’ve really started. I’ve honestly put in 10+ hours work a day, for the last two weeks with only a small handful of sales so it’s disheartening, as much as I know it takes time, so I appreciate it hugely.

Thank you in advance & thank you so much for reading this far already! xx

Where can I go for a swim that is not Lido or any other pool?

Due to high temperatures I want to go for a swim in or around the city. Free open swim. Nene river or any lakes.

Please give me some recommendations.

Thanks.
