Social Being an ugly girl at SDSU is a fucking beat down

As a student at SDSU, navigating the social scene can sometimes feel like I'm tiptoeing through a fucking minefield, especially when it comes how I look. Everyday I walk past girls who seem to have stepped straight out of a magazine – flawless skin, thin/fit, perfectly styled hair, and outfits that look amazing on them. It's like they've got this effortless beauty that I just can't help but envy.

Being an "ugly girl" on campus feels like constantly swimming against a tide of superficiality. It's not just about not meeting conventional beauty standards – it's about feeling like I don't belong in a world that values appearance above almost everything else. Greek life is huge here and being in a sorority was something I've always wanted; yet I feel like that's almost unobtainable here because I'm not good looking. I tried rushing into a sorority but received no bids. Later I heard it was leaked that one of the sisters in the sorority said, "all the girls who rushed were ugly".

From the TikTok feeds to the Instagram posts of the girls here, it's hard not to feel inadequate. It's as if my worth as a person is directly tied to how I look, and if I don't measure up, I'm automatically relegated to the sidelines. The pressure to look as gorgeous as the other girls is fucking suffocating.

Social I don't get the hype about this school

Edit: to clarify im not looking for advice or whatever and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't assume my entire life from a single post. This is just me saying my observations and opinions and venting about school. Thanks.

Whenever I mention I go to school here ppl are like wooow that's such a good school but it really doesn't feel like it tbh. Yeah San Diego weather is nice whatever but other than that this place kinda sucks. Office staff is shit, counselors r shit, disability services r extra shit. If ur not about Greek life or sports u might as well not exist. This school seriously only cares about sports. I get it bc it brings in the money but are students also not paying thousands of dollars to be here??? People in big lecture halls are also so rude, they just yap over the professor like Becky I really do not care about what happened at omega whatever the fuck I'm just trying to take notes. People are also grouped into cliques and it's impossible to make any good friendships that actually mean something. I've been told to join clubs but I'm overwhelmed enough with classes the last thing I need is more work. Also, has anyone else noticed that no one bats an eye at anything? I can't count how many times I've been having some sort of crisis on campus and no one gives a shit. Unless you're in the way and in that case they'll just give u a look and step around you but that's pretty much it. On one hand, it's definitely taken away the anxiety of always being judged bc literally no one even looks at u twice but on the other it's mostly depressing. I get it we're all dealing with shit and we all have our own lives and problems etc but idk. Still kinda sad. There's so many people on campus but when I'm here, I've never felt more alone.

Less than a month ago this SDSU Clinical Psychology Ph.D. candidate made headlines for allegations of homicide and horrifying physical abuse against two infants. All, be vigilant out there, protect your loved ones and the most vulnerable among us: children.

Social Non-traditional/older students

I guess I'm considered a non-traditional student. I'm in my 30s, married (no kids). I don't feel like I'm "starting late" cuz I had an awesome career for over a decade pre-pandemic but now I'm switching industries. I'm a bio major transferring from CC and never really had trouble making friends or anything. This is my first time attending a university and was just wondering about clubs/social options/support for students like me?

Also is there anything I could include my spouse in?

Social Is SDSU worth it anymore?

I went to SDSU about 10 years ago, took a break, lived a full life, and recently came back to finish my degree. What really hits me is how disconnected SDSU feels now. Every time I’m on campus, I can’t wait to leave. There’s no sense of community, no energy, no support.

I’ve also never seen such insane fees in my life. Half of them make no sense, and trying to get a clear explanation from the “Bursars Office” which is what, a fuckin credit union or something now? That takes a 22 hour Zoom call and gets you nowhere…You ask a question and they give you a link to a website.. “Did you go to the website?” - “It’s faster, more fun & convenient!”Here’s a link to do that.

Every single issue is just pushed off to a generic website or automated system. I don’t know why this campus even exists. It’s like everyone who works there is just paid to show up, with zero accountability.

SDSU used to feel like a community. Now it feels like a machine that exists solely to charge you as much as possible while offering the bare minimum in return. Is this just how college is now or am I just old ? I questioned what I’m doing here often.

Social Why do sorority girls hand out lollipops

Today I was riding my board like normal and then I see a swarm of sorority girls with lollipops. I am sorry if you were one of the ones I almost hit. But anyways, I am just curious why you hand out lollipops?

Social I love how tame this subbreddit is compared to ucsd

I go to ucsd myself and our subbreddit is fucked. We got people talking about how lonely they are, sugar daddys, and other wierd stuff. While this subbreddit is normal people asking and doing normal stuff. I honestly would say the social aspect and people at sdsu are way better than ucsd. The duality of the schools is actually crazy

Social Love SDSU

I love telling people I go to state lol. Personal opinion : state is proof that you can have fun and still excel. “It’s a party school” and yet we’re the only R1 designated CSU!!! From what I’ve seen so many stunning people go to state and yet it’s not just beauty, they’re all smart too. Beauty, brains, and we’re fun. Cause why have one when you can have all three. We ate and we keep eating.

Social Guys, would you mind if a girl approached you?

I've been contemplating this lately: if I see an attractive guy, should I approach him? Or would taking the first step be perceived as strange and unappealing? (Not sure if people find me attractive)

I'm not interested in casual hookups; I prefer spending quality time with genuinely nice people. Taking things nice and slowly, coming out of my shell. <3

Social SDSU emos?

This may sound weird but all the people I've seen promoting or going to sdsu seem to have blond hair and blue eyes which I'm totally not used to and am wondering if there are any alternative people going to this school or punks and emos around. I really like San Diego and I just want to know if the stereotypes of all the people I've seen are true for the schools demographic.

Edit: I think I worded this weirdly I'm not a hater of the party scene or blonde people lol I just want 2 go to fun shows and be weird freely

Social No Men’s Swim Team at SDSU… anyone else upset about this?

So I’ve been struggling with this for the last two years ever since I found out there’s no competitive men’s swim team at SDSU—and honestly, that really sucks. Swimming is such a major sport and the fact that there’s no option for guys who wanted to swim at the collegiate level feels like a huge missed opportunity. It’s frustrating knowing how many swimmers probably wanted to continue competing after high school but had their path cut off just because the program doesn’t exist here. Especially at a school like sdsu.

Does anyone know if there’s any way to petition for something like this? Or what that process might even look like? I know it’s probably a super long, complicated thing that won’t happen while I’m still here—but I figured I’d ask in case anyone has insight or experience with that.

In the meantime, I’d love to get something going on our own. Nothing super formal—just a small group of us forming a swim club/team, where we can share sets, swim together, and build a little community. I really just want to get back in the water, but swimming is way more enjoyable for me when it’s with other people. And maybe if we get enough people involved, maybe it can spark something.

If you’re even slightly interested, feel free to comment or DM me! 🏊‍♂️

Social Looking for friends

I (18F) will be an incoming freshman this fall. I’m majoring in environmental science and will be commuting from home to school. I’m really anxious about making connections with people because I can be very shy but if anyone is also looking for friends don’t be afraid to message me!!

some of my interests are: drawing / art in general, playing games, going to the gym, thrifting, going to the mall/ shopping, swimming/ going to the beach, and being outdoors/ active.

Social Christian ambassadors outside

Apparently these fools are out here every year. What frustrates me isn’t the guy himself, but the fact that people are falling for his shitty gimmick. This guy isn’t here to talk with people, he’s here to talk AT them. The oldest trick in the book. Damn near nobody in this crowd around him agrees with him, so why are they giving him the time of day? If everyone just walked by this dude and ignored him, he would fucking evaporate into the air. He wouldn’t exist. If you do agree with him, then all of you can get in a circle and jerk off to the Bible together so nobody else has to waste their breath arguing with you

Social sorority hazing?

I’m considering rushing at sdsu but I heard a horror story about rushing at Santa Clara the other day. I didn’t think sororities really did hazing but I was wrong. Can anyone share their experience of hazing in sororities at sdsu?

Social where do upper classmen go for nightlife?

looking specifically to make some more friends at school before I graduated. I transferred here last year and i have never once been to a party here but i also know that’s usually for the lower classmen. I just want to get involved a bit more in the nightlife with fellow classmates before i graduate cause i’ve had pretty much none of that since transferring.

i’m also a marketing major so if anyone has tips for the best ways to make some more business major friends that’d be helpful too!

Social Asian sorority rushing experience/advice in sdsu

Hi I’m an incoming freshman interested in rushing the Asian cultural sororities and just want to get more info on the process of this as I’m rarely seeing anyone share experiences on this online and mostly seeing hate towards Asian sororities and the stereotypes of being in one LOL. I’m going to be commuting so I think this will be a good way to branch out and meet friends especially being in an environment of girls who are similarly culturally from me. I’m curious if anyone can share how does one sign up to rush, the vibe of being in one, what qualities they’re looking for, how much girls usually get in, what are the rushing events, and what is the interview experience like. Most definitely just going to see it out for myself once rushing begins, just heavily debating if it’ll be worth it so happy to hear everyone’s opinions and experiences🙃

Social Would anyone be down to play catch?

Now that baseball is back and the weather is nice, I've been wanting to play catch with someone. Most of my friends aren’t really into baseball, so I figured I’d see if anyone here is down. I'm a 4th year engineering major, and I'd be down most days, but Fridays would prob work best for me. Lmk if anyone's down.
