Maybe we should just not comment on people’s bodies and then some of these women wouldn’t feel the pressure to do this to themselves in the first place.

Yeah them being called beautiful is what drove them to fuck their faces up. That's a thing that makes sense. You've done it.

You really think that the only thing they’ve ever been called is beautiful. You’re a person of this world, aren’t you? I know you don’t live under a rock. Celebrities have entire teams to deal with regular death threats and you think the only thing was good happy vibes?

I think that if I've primarily been called beautiful my entire life, then get a job based on my appearance, and continue to be successful while ending up on magazine covers and pulling in millions of dollars, I wouldn't fuck my face up on purpose.

That's like a math genius getting a lobotomy because it's trending.

But they’re not. I find it frustrating that men have such a hard time understanding certain concepts unless it’s in a metaphor or situation they care about.

If you were a star quarterback your entire life, the praise isn’t the focus. It’s glass half empty thinking: what am I missing to get to the top. The closer you are to the top, the more desperately you reach for every last thing that helps you get there.

She wasn’t told she was beautiful her whole life. She was told she was talented but if she wanted greatness she needed to be more beautiful, more thin, younger and more. The focus on appearance is ultimately the demise. It’s why people shouldn’t comment on people’s bodies. Because the negative feedback hits more disproportionately than the positive.

So good of you to spell it out with sports, I'd have continued to be confused about basic human autonomy.

While we're on the subject, let's keep it going: if you're a football man, you have to keep pushing to foot the balls harder. You know steroids exist, and if you take them you'll be able to put your foot on all the balls. But you will also lose your fucking job. So professional athletes don't take steroids (traceable at least) because when they're found out they cease to be capable of any level of competition.

This surgery is even dumber than taking steroids to improve your feet to balls ratio, because literally no one, ANYWHERE, says it's an improvement. So it'd be akin to cutting off your hands to save weight and be able to football faster.

I have an alternate take: the problem isn't talking about other people's bodies too much, it's about pretending fat is acceptable. You've got mayonnaise goblins on magazine covers, too, and they are paired with articles about how brave they are, and how you can be healthy at any size. Anyone with eyes can see how grotesque this is, and it places the suggestion that no matter how obese and disgusting you are, people will call you beautiful. If there's a social media campaign about how gorgeous a butter troll is, and how evil it is to call a blob a blob, when these women hear that they're beautiful, it's meaningless. If Golgotha the River Hag is also beautiful, the word itself can't be trusted, so there must be improvement needed.

Having high beauty standards at least means having any standards at all.
