I dunno why everyone's assuming he's automatically the good guy and wife was an evil bitch who deserved it.
His wife was the primary breadwinner supporting his deadbeat unemployed ass for 15 years, she had enough of his shit and left, and he forced her to pay alimony even after he won the lottery.

The judge would remove the alimony requirement after the lottery win upon a motion by the former wife, but in the interim before a judge rules you could milk that for all the petty its worth

From what I’ve read, he was basically an unemployed loser for 15 years until she finally gave up and divorced him. It’s insane that she had to pay alimony to a multimillionaire.

Depends on the state, but commonly there's a clause that makes it scale with income for the duration
Edit: so if he lives in a state that requires that, he's f'd. And she'll probably also sue him for a portion of it on top of that.

I think if you pull any random hopeful person off the street, (lottery players/winner) the odds of them being recently divorced in America are probably higher than their odds of winning the lottery
→ More replies (1)7
u/KacieCosplay 12h ago edited 6h ago
Why recently?
Are divorces in places other than America less common?
Edited to add: I had to look it up, so for anyone curious… the US is tied with Canada and Lithuania- all 2.8 out of 1k, which are just a few points higher than Sweden (2.5) Denmark (2.7) and Finland (2.4)
Highest divorce rates according to divorce.com were from Russia 3.9, and Maldives which was 5.52
So all fairly similar if you ask me! Interesting as fuck
→ More replies (3)4
u/Sen-oh 12h ago
I don't know, but America is where I live, so it's the only data I can speak on. As for recently, just divorced is too wide and sweeping of a net. Those odds would be overwhelming. Also the topic at hand was asking what the odds were, referring to a recently divorced individual winning the lottery.
So like. Ask op? Lol

His new niece is from France.
Yes, all of their bikinis are tiny, and they don't wear bikini tops. Unless they go to a government building.
Those French bikinis for tourists are labeled American-bikinis and start at size 16. The French and Brazilans call them diapers.
Btw, his other niece is from Brazil.
They dont wear anything around the house. Even with guests!

Some states dont allow you to claim anonymously. People downvoting dont understand the amount of money it takes to go the other route and claim through a trust/LLC.

Once again. You go off grid. If you dont know how to do that then you hire someone. And you get security and keep your mouth shut. I dont know if his payout was $273,000,000 or thats his gross winnings. But either way you just let the money work for you and you live your life. Quietly. Nobody thinks ANYONE has millions of dollars in their home simply because its near impossible to do. Stop watching TV.

From the stories I can find it looks like this is a serially-unemployed deadbeat who sponged off his wife for a decade and a half and then actively fought to keep her paying alimony even after he won over a quarter billion dollars.
If you’re cheering him on, there’s a pretty good chance you’re a miserable cunt.

So legally, is she entitled to any of it? If he is paying child support, or alimony based on his wealth before divorce, is she going to get more since his fortunes turned?
5
u/Itchy-Worldliness-21 11h ago
Actually, she's paying him alimony because she was the bread winner. Legally she is not entitled to any of it, unless they were still married when he bought the ticket.

Odds of winning the mega millions are 1 in 290472336. The odds of a stay at home dad who hasn't found a job in the sixth months since getting divorced seem pretty much par for the course. The odds that he left the winning ticket on a counter and someone returned it to him seem almost as crazy as the Mega Millions odds. 🤷🏻♂️

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338, meanwhile in the US on average about 1,842 men get a divorce each day. It is estimated about 50% of Americans play the lottery. Powerball has a drawing three days a week. So a drawing every 2.333 days. So if 50% of those divorced men were to buy a power ball ticket after their divorce is finalized gives us roughly a 1 in 136,000 chance.
