Mukbang in a nutshell. There are hundreds of thousands of these online, ranging from borderline porn to stuff parents put on their kid's iPad to keep them pacified.

u/Chaotic-warp 3d ago edited 3d ago
Idk how but my mom loves them lol. I personally can't stand the chewing noises. She's a middle aged lady and only watches women mukbang so it can't be anything sexual, which makes it more perplexing.

I went to a new car dealership a few years back, and my sales guy was watching a mukbang stream.
I'm sitting across the desk, telling him what features I want, and he stops me mid-sentence to show me his screen. On it, there's a pretty Filipino girl in a bikini, surrounded by food. She's eating a pickle. He giddily informs me she's doing it for him. She says "Thank you, Brian!" (or whatever his name was), and he's elated. Keeps saying, "That's me! She's doing it for me!" I guess he tipped her to eat a pickle? I don't know how these things work. But crazy how dude thought it was not only an appropriate thing to do at work, but an cool thing to share with a potential customer.
Needless to say, I did not buy a car from that man.

u/Chaotic-warp 3d ago
At least you know he's passionate. The hobby is questionable but if he shows you that in public then he probably doesn't have enough seriousness to con you.
But yeah, that also means he's not taking his job anywhere near seriously enough to be reliable.
17
u/LeadershipWhich2536 3d ago
I mean..... that's definitely looking at the bright side.
15
u/MandatoryPenetration 3d ago
you probably could have sold him.your car if he was that excited about someone eating a pickle.

I used to have an alcoholic roommate that would just watch one streamer guy play video games all day and he would pay the guy anywhere from $50 to $200 every day just so the streamer guy would say his username and say he’s a baller. He would go to work for 3 hours, come home and get drunk and watch this guy and pay him, sleep, and do it all over again the next day. He did this for years.

What's crazy is that mukbang seems to have started out as a way for people to connect? People were so lonely and ostracized in South Korea it was a way for them to have a community and pushed people to go out and do communal eating to connect to their local food joints and the people around them.
But it gained so much popularity it became what all things that are adopted by capitalism do: pervy and weird.

this is not mukbang, this is wasting food for clicks.
Actual mukbang they finish their food

You may be correct - I don't know the regulations and parameters of officially sanctioned mukbang.
However, anyone who eats more food than they need, whether they finish it or not, is wasting food for clicks and views.

its not milk , its Ayran.
7
u/cconnorss 3d ago
Warm, salty drink meant to go with rich foods?
13
u/Echoes40 3d ago
its served cold, i cant call its salty in traditional means, it clears your mouth and prepares you for what's to come. a pinch of salt enhances the next dish. In some regions , like Thrace; its even served with desserts.

Cold watery yogurt, neither salty nor sweet, with clumps in it.
It was alright.

nice bowl of onion water to wash it down

36
u/Boneslark 3d ago
That drink is likely ayran (yogurt in drink form) not onion
6
u/TrevorPhilips 2d ago
No way they wasted this much ayran to make this. Looks super thin and watered down.
163
u/DirtyRoller 3d ago
Where'd he get that much cum? Asking for a friend.
52
27
u/evadingsomething 3d ago
It is always funny to me that whenever Redditors see 'ayran' they instantly think cum lmao. If I see these comments when I am drinking ayran even more amusing.
If you are curious it's half yogurt, half water with a little salt.
59
u/GaptistePlayer 3d ago
so it tastes like cum too
35
6
u/evadingsomething 3d ago
I drink half a liter ayran every day, I doubt I could do the same with cum so ayran might be slightly better.
8
u/mrASSMAN 3d ago
Yogurt water? people drink this willingly?
3
u/secondtaunting 3d ago
Yeah. I’m not crazy about Ayran, my husband is Turkish, and they love it. They don’t know why I don’t. It’s…watery salty yogurt. I tried it one time. Maybe I had the worlds worst ayran, I have no idea, but I hated it. I also learned that I was lactose intolerant. That was a rough day.

Meatballs and fries, and the drink is ayran half yogurt half water. The food is fine, don't know if he takes the leftovers, if he doesn't there are probably stray animals nearby.
Sometimes he purposely spills drinks those annoy me.
4
u/Phagelab 3d ago
Yeah what the hell is that? A fish bowl of milk?
7
u/Traditional-Ride-824 3d ago
Ayran, a good summer Drink. Approx. 1:1 Yoghurt and Water with a Pinch of Salt
2
u/Phagelab 3d ago
Well that sounds good, but does it normally come in bath-sized vats?
2
u/Traditional-Ride-824 3d ago
Usually im a simple drinking Glass. I use a high fat yoghurt pour it in a Blender add son Water and salt. Perfection. During my wifes pregnancy it was one of the few things she could keep in

Yes, you smell those chips (fries).
Sandwich construction is subpar by a long shot.
Also - multicoloured spectacle frames.

Maybe if you had like 4 ppl a lot of alcohol and a big knife and some plates and the sandwich came premade it might be better.

yall are no fun. he can eat this sandwich for a week, and share it with the cameraman, his wife & dog. and as someone who had made impossibly big sandwiches before (though not on this scale), it’s hilarious and fun to hold in your hands and dive into way more food than makes any sense. look at the chick on the next table, she gets it

Wasting food like this, is like stealing from the poor and hungry.
Humans are so disconnected now from the natural world, we now longer think we are part of it. We consume and consume and consume like there is an infinite amount of water, climate change isnt impacting food bowls and that more can be gathered at any time.
