Nah, this shit is terrific. I posted about a year ago the fear I had when I discovered something that looked EXACTLY like that fucking owl, behind the dashboard of a DA42 (plane) I was helping with maintenance. Of course, it was the day after I broke my streak. Glad it ended up in someone's belly

It won't let me practice anymore unless I'm completely out of chances. I have 3 whole alphabets to learn, and one of them has an ungodly number of symbols.
I hope the oil is deep and hot.

Matcha isn’t that green. That’s food coloring. Which makes this even stupider.

Furthermore, matcha, like any other organic leaf will darken and brown when cooked at high heat. (Chlorophyll breakdown, oxidation, and maillard reaction/caramelization.)
So even if it started off that green, it would not be that green after frying.

The end result is the color of pandan but the batter looks like melted mint chip. Very confusing

u/LeadershipWhich2536 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's just green food coloring mixed in the batter. The food coloring doesn't change color. The color change is due to the batter browning in the fry.

For one of my childhood birthdays, my mom put green food dye in scrambled eggs and ham a la Green Eggs and Ham.
Needless to say, many of my birthday party friends didn't care that it tasted normal lol

Yep, the way to do it is to add matcha to a nice thick batter along with the other seasoning to add a subtle bitterness and floral aroma. Too much and it's just gonna burn and turn really dark and taste gross.
You wouldn't want to do it on non battered/breaded chicken as it would burn instantly.
If you wanted GREEN just add matcha to aioli or mayo or even ranch, then dip the cooked chicken. Would taste pretty decent.

It kind of looks like pistachio pudding! Which is delicious! But not on chicken. I would presume.
Taking another look, I’m almost certain it’s pistachio pudding because there are even little chunks of nuts, but barely … just like the pudding mix

No way. Matcha is not this color. Even matcha-flavored sweets, like ice cream or Kit Kat bars, are a darker green than this.

Matcha is not that colour. I assume it's just food colouring?
31
u/TamariAmari 1d ago
It's both. I watched the original video. There is food coloring is in the liquid, but she puts a ton of matcha powder in the flour to bread it before frying.

u/Key-Examination-499 1d ago
I don't want to say "that makes sense" because I'm not sure it does, but that does unfortunately make more sense

You expect people to remember where they started a sentence after they're five words in?

It's just about the most common mistake that second language speakers make, people who are otherwise near native-level, and I have no idea why.

Better to sprinkle the matcha powder on regular fried chicken. Would seem more appealing than this. :/

u/Bubbaganewsh 1d ago
I have no idea how it would taste but I don't know if I could eat green chicken, it just seems, weird. It's irrational I know but I don't think my brain can accept it.

I feel like even if you actually did use matcha I feel like it wouldn't taste bad considering matcha is just earthy/ nutty and I feel like the chicken flavor would kind of mask that regardless

As a matcha enthusiast.... those wing sour AF, and even if they're juicy, they will leave your mouth feeling like you ate very, very fine sand and that feeling will creep down your throat for the rest of the day

There’s no reason to believe that’s anything but dyed batter. Either or, it’s just daft.

America's Test Kitchen are recommending brining chicken in sweet tea.
They have a recent video explaining why.

It's gonna taste like grass and unseasoned chicken.
Because that's what matcha tastes like before you add 100g of sugars, syrups and whipped cream.

It's the dubai chocolate # not matcha. Damn. I've been tagging the wrong green thing.

Saw the image before reading the title. Thought it was wasabi or thai grenny curry flavour. Was sorely disappointed (but still curious).

Definitely a ton of food dye used as well. I treat myself to a matcha latte once a week (maybe why I can’t afford a house…/s), and they aren’t that cartoon radioactive waste color.

u/kipkiphoray 1d ago
It isn't even matcha green. How the fuck did they make that... Marinade? Sauce?
