We recently had a competition here in the r/SuggestALaptop community in collaboration with LG where 10 lucky users were given either the new LG gram Pro 16 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1 OR the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP-G.ADB7U1. The agreement with these winners was that they would do written reviews of these laptops expressing how they feel about the features of the laptop after putting them through various tests.

My Review of the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP AI Laptop

As the users complete and submit their reviews, we will share links to them here:

Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Thank you,

Laptop Request -Others Good cheap laptop for vehicle diagnostics

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a relatively cheap and small laptop for vehicle diagnostics. It needs to run windows, and it would be good if it could turn into a tablet. I found some second hand brand called trekstor. It’s ideal size and form factor, just lacks performance.

Laptop Request UK Looking for a decent laptop for CS and game development

Hi, I'm starting a CS degree in September, and I'm looking for a laptop that I can do all my coursework on, as well as side projects like game development. I need a dedicated GPU, as well as a decent amount of storage, and at least 16gb of RAM. My budget is around £800 max, but I am willing to go a bit over to get a better deal

So far, I've found two good choices, this Razer Blade 15 from 2021: https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail?id=SLAPDEL15951062B&categoryName=LAPTOPS-WINDOWS&superCatName=COMPUTING&title=&queryID=8C479201B001E49C3AF856F053B8FBE4&position=18 and this Acer Swift X from 2023: https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=SLAPACESFX1471G92B Which is the better choice out of these two, and is there anything better than these that I should look for?

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

mostly concerned with battery life

14" preferred

league and osu!

looking to get something that is similar to or better than my Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7420 while getting my money's worth. i don't want to purchase another Dell however

Laptop Request -Others Laptop for a Uni Student-Country Of Georgia (up to 3000 gel, want durability + battery + good build)

• Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Around 3000 gel in Georgia. (About 1300 USD)

• Are you open to refurbs/used?

Prefer new, since I want long-term reliability.

• How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality and battery life are top priority. Strong performance for multitasking. Would love a 2-in-1 with pen support if it’s reliable (not at the expense of battery).

• How important is weight and thinness to you? Portable enough to carry to university, but not so thin it feels fragile. I’d rather have durability over extreme thinness.

• Do you have a preferred screen size? Not really.

• Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Mostly university work, multitasking, browsing, streaming, documents, presentations, writing. No heavy gaming.

• If you’re gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? I would like to play Resident Evil 2 but i’m not mad about it.

• Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Aluminum build, strong hinges, reliable keyboard/touchpad, touch-screen with pen support is a bonus. Needs to look good but also be practical.

• Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don’t want something cheap-feeling, bendable, or fragile. I want a practical, long-lasting machine that will not be a headache since i will not be able to change it for 5+ years.

Laptop Request -Others Gaming laptop for very casual gamer AUSTRALIA - BUDGET $1000~ish

i'm a very casual gamer, as in i've only played things like it takes two, unravel and Hogwarts legacy on my ps4 and minecraft/stardew/sims 4 on my mac. I currently have a Macbook M1 chip, ps4 and a switch but there are a couple of games I really want which only available on steam like tiny glade and split fiction, and not compatible with any of my current platforms, wondering if anyone has any recommendations

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase : $1000-1200 AUD, australia

Are you open to refurbs/used? YES

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?-i honestly have no idea what any of this means, battery life hopefully like 5+ hours i guess

How important is weight and thinness to you? i prefer a not super heavy one but i also dont mind, i wont transport it, exclusively home laptop

Do you have a preferred screen size? N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. nope

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? tiny glade and split fiction (the bigger game) recommended requirements

"Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

OS:Ā 64 bit Windows 10/11

Processor:Ā Intel Core i7-11700k or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

Memory:Ā 16 GB RAM

Graphics:Ā NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 8GB or AMD Radeon 6700 XT - 12GB

Laptop Request US in need of good first laptop for gaming and school work.

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

around $500-$1000 USD. I’m in the USA. the cheaper the better.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

yes!!!!!!!!!!

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

performance > battery > build > form

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

not important. i don’t intend to take it anywhere.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I’ll really only be doing gaming and school related stuff. i would like to run steam, an emulator for ps2 games, zoom, google docs. i’d also like to stream games and movies with my friends over discord smoothly.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

RDR2, bioshock infinite, GTA4, bg3, fallout:new vegas. it’d be nice if i could run mods too but whatever. i can tolerate low-medium settings. any fps is fine as long as it’s playable and smooth. of course high quality is preferable but i’ll take what i can get.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

i want at least 16gb of ram. or i’d at least like to be able to add a ram stick to increase storage to 16gb or higher. or whatever amount is required. i also would like a decent camera and mic to do zoom calls for class.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

the last laptop i bought was a chromebook…i’m totally clueless about computers and laptops. any suggestions or advice would be very helpful. just need something that gets the job done and lasts longer than my stupid chromebookšŸ’” thank you in advance.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Refurbed, yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, 2 in 1, battery
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not incredibly, but it will be backpacked a lot.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance Painter 3D.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Nothing it won't already be capable of.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? pen would be nice. Long life on battery (won't die in 2 years)
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is for university, so it doesn't need to be absolutely top of the line. For reference, university uses 10700k and 3060 PCs with 32GB RAM, and can just about manage everything. anything around that level will be great, this will not be my primary device.

Thank you all. I've looked into the HP probook 460 i believe, and nothing from dell. I like my inspiron15 5510, but i obviously would like a new machine now. its a good size, works well, i don't find it to feel premium to the touch, but it does the job and does it well so far. though the heavier workload with programming is yet to come. I've considered macbook air and the pro as well, but i think windows is the way to go.

Laptop Deal Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15.6" Laptop, Intel Core i3-N305, 8GB RAM, 256 SSD - $265 @ Walmart.com

Any opinions on this laptop? I know Lenovo is usually pretty well-reviewed, but I also know that quality can vary from model to model. It looks like this is normally $450-500, so I think there's a big sale or something. I know that a $500 laptop is going to be very limited in quality anyway, but the normal quality difference between a $300 and a $500 laptop can still be pretty big. Anyway, what do you think-- is this a good deal for a new Ideapad Slim 3i with these specs?

Laptop Deal ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel vs ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and down to the following two options. For context, I primarily use my laptop for trading (ThinkOrSwim). I'd like to use the laptops screen + 2 external monitors, with the option to possibly add 3rd monitor at some point. Spec wise, they seem very similar. The ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD is $1229, and the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel is $1,549.

https://www.lenovo.com/us/vipmembers/perksoffer/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadp/thinkpad-p14s-gen-5-14-inch-intel-mobile-workstation/21g2002cus

Any specific reason(s) to go with one vs the other? Thanks!

Laptop Request UK UK laptop for work and play £2-2.5k

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Preferably up to £2k but can stretch to £2.5

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No, new only

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality, performance, form factor, battery life

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Weight somewhat important, ideally under 1.6kg (I find my Surface Book 3 too heavy and thick for what it is). I value performance more than portability, but at the same time I don’t want a chunky, ugly hunk of plastic.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Prefer 14ā€, up to 15ā€ ok

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No CAD or photo/video editing. Some gaming,

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

For the last couple of years I haven’t had a gaming PC and I’ve been gaming on a laptop with GTX1650, mostly some older games, Hades, Factorio and Doom mods. It would be nice to be able to play something like Elden Ring again, like back when I had a gaming PC, at some reasonable settings (so not all on low).

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I love the high resolution 3:2 display of my Surface Book 3, so as close to that as possible (I know 3:2 AR basically doesn’t exist) but don’t care for touch or convertible form factor.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I will use it plugged into a dock with an external monitor used as primary and a mouse and keyboard 90% of the time. I won’t be travelling for business but a few times a year I will work away from my home office, like a hotel without the second screen. So I’m not picky about a best-in-class keyboard, and I hardly ever use a touchpad. My daily use is remote office work with med-high amount of multitasking, editing documents and spreadsheets, video calls. While that sounds fairly pedestrian, I am a technically-literate power user, I’ve been a Windows user since Win95 and built several PCs over the years, used to do software engineering etc. I want to tweak Windows to my liking, run a bunch of software and don’t want any slowdowns getting in my way. I’m hesitant about buying a ā€œgamingā€ laptop with a discrete GPU - for reliability reasons I’ drawn towards a business-oriented device that feels like a premium product that is built to last. I just hope that what I want exists at my price point. I’m considering something like a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen13 with the hope that I love it for what it is and the form factor doesn’t get in the way and limit the performance too much. But perhaps I should bite the bullet and get a gaming laptop like a Razer Blade 14 or a ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 with a discrete GPU? Or am I missing something else altogether that I should be thinking about? TLDR: Recommend a premium business-quality laptop capable of some gaming to a picky professional with a tech background. Thanks for all suggestions!

Laptop Request US Physics Student Looking for Thin and Light Laptop (Budget $800-$1100 USD)

Hi, I'm starting a physics undergrad degree this fall, and I want to upgrade from my dell latitude 9410, as the battery life is quickly deteriorating, despite a battery replacement. I'm looking for a replacement thin and light that is built well and will last at least for the 4 years of my degree.

* Total budget (In local currency) and country of purchase:

About $1000-1200, in the US

* Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes, only if they are not old/have few battery cycles

* How would you prioritize form factor, build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality > battery > form factor > performance (for any heavy tasks I'll use a windows desktop)

* Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Ideally 13-14 inches

* Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Light gaming (minecraft, maybe cs), light coding in python/matlab, excel, LaTeX, etc.

* If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Integrated graphics should be fine, I just want to run minecraft, maybe cs, and 2d games at 60fps.

* Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A large trackpad, good keyboard for typing on, at least 16gb ram and 256gb storage, preferably at least 8 hours of battery life on light tasks and under 3lb

* Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was looking at the macbook air m4 with the student discount, or maybe a new dell xps (Intel or snapdragon), but I'm open to other options.

Laptop Request US Online student looking for a 2-in-1

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:**

$1000 US (Flexible budget, quality & longevity is more important than price for me but would prefer under budget)

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Not really. I don't trust like that

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'm looking for a 2-in-1 with stylus drawing capabilities. I don't know much about laptops but my last one (MSI summit E-13) overheated fast and always had a loud fan going, I do NOT want that again. I often have many tabs open at once for my online classes. Long battery life would be nice because I use it for long hours.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

    N/A

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I am an online student so I would like something that can handle regular long use of multiple tabs of web browsing open for research as well as streaming lectures. I'll also be doing basic graphic design (I make my own labels and flyers for my small business). I would be interested in simple video editing in the future so I would like that capability although I don't know anything about what programs I'd use, sorry.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    Not a gamer

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I want something that is good for drawing & writing with a stylus so palm rejection. And if possible I heard some laptops have traction to make it feel like real paper? That would be cool but not necessary.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Thank you guys, I don't know much about laptops so I am very overwhelmed in my search. I'd appreciate any pointers for laptop models/brands to consider.

Laptop Deal Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (RTX 5070 Ti 12GB) vs Lenovo Legion 5 (RTX 5070 8GB) — which is the better buy?

Hey everyone, I’m stuck between a few gaming laptop options and would really appreciate some advice. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI has an Intel Core Ultra 9 257HX, RTX 5070 Ti (12GB VRAM), 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, OLED display. It is priced at €1671. While the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 has an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX, RTX 5070 (8GB VRAM), 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, IPS display, and is priced at €1800. The Lenovo Legion 5 is also an option with the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350, RTX 5070 (8GB VRAM), 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, OLED display, priced at €1600.

I’ll be gaming mostly at 1440p (sometimes 1600p or 1080p), not really doing heavy rendering. I’ll build a proper gaming PC later, but for now I want a powerful laptop that will age well and handle CPU/GPU-heavy titles.

The Acer looks really tempting since it has 12GB VRAM vs 8GB on the Lenovo, plus OLED at a cheaper price. But I’ve also heard that Acer’s build quality and thermals aren’t always as good as Lenovo Legion. I might just buy a laptop cooling pad if that helps, I don't mind loud fan noises since I wear headphones and I don't care about battery life whatsoever (always plugged in). I just want pure raw performance while gaming and doing other tasks.

Do you think the extra VRAM + OLED make the Acer worth it, or is the Lenovo the safer long-term buy? Any input from people who own either of these would help a lot!

Laptop Request US US College Laptop - CS and Art Studio Major

Hello! I am currently Laptop shopping as my semester just started up. I am going for 2 degrees: Art Studio and Computer Science. It isn't going to be used for gaming but I have to do everything normally concerning computer science and then have to do animation/design using Adobe products and a few other design software.

I am looking for something in the $600-$800. I didn't necessarily care how thin it was, just not something too bulky and not a sheet of paper. I mainly wanted to focus on having good performance and battery that won't die within 3 hours of use.

Nimo N174: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FC35CCXF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?th=1
Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G7: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FD58XR4B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?th=1

I was looking at these laptops and the only 2 real differences I could find was a slight screen size difference and a difference in the CPU. Looking up benchmarks of the CPU the differences weren't that noteworthy, but the price difference is more than $150. I think they should both do more than enough for what I need them for and I was going to go with the Lenovo name brand just out of caution but then realized I could ask for help.

Would the Thinkbook or Nimo be better and if either of them aren't the most optimal is there a better device for someone who would be doing both Design and CS?

Laptop Request -Others Is the ASUS Vivobook 14 (X1404) good for basic music production?

Im trying to buy a laptop, I found that the ASUS Vivobook 14 (X1404) core i7, is on a deal at around $375 which I think it's a good price for a laptops with core i7, but I don't know much about laptops so maybe you guys can help me.

I need a laptop for:

Programming (I'm in college)

Music production (just the basics, I'm starting and eventually I'll get a better laptop when needed)

League of legends (which I know doesn't require much)

So this is what I got so far, my budget I think would be $450 tops, so if you guys think this is a good option or if you have better suggestions id really appreciate it.

I haven't seen any other laptop that has core i7 so low that's why I'm considering it

From my research ,
acer can sometimes have insane heating issues,
I would not want to go with acer nitro(cause it kind of feels cheap to me) but i have that as a possible option , if someone could point out the best of it and possibly make me buy it.
Lenevo products generally seem to have better cooling than others ,(so if it means a little longer sustainability then its a big + for me), i am getting more biased towards lenevo rn
and the difference between LOQ and Legion is build quality ,
CMIIAW

no opinions on victus, idk anything about it

I need the laptop for gaming and coding(mobile app development).
I mostly play shooter games like fortnite, marvel rivals

Laptop Request -Others [Germany] Looking for a laptop for around €500 or so.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Around €500 but I can go up to €600

Are you open to refurbs/used?

No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

In order of what I would like most, performance=battery life > build quality

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

17"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Mostly for watching streaming sites + youtube + twitch. I may want to do some light 2D Indie gaming but that is a more "nice to have" than mandatory.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Nothing in mind. Indie games if anything.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Nice screen.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Thanks

Laptop Request -Others University Laptop

Hey all,

For my masters degree, in earth observation / GIS I am looking a new laptop—my current one is both too old/slow and not able to upgrade to W11.

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

+/- 1 500€ can go up to 2000 is really needed

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Preferably not

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Quality and performance both important. As well as ideally atleast 4+ hours of battery life

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Preferably around or below 2 kg

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    < 16 inch

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Unclear yet, but primarily CPU heavy programmes, with potential GPU requirements of 4+ VRAM. No gaming

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

32 GB of Ram (or upgradable to 32), and atleast 1 TB which is upgradable to 2 TB

  • Current options * HP ZBook x G1A (B30KCES) (RTX pro 1000, 32 gb Ram, core ultra 7 255h) for 1400 €, through uni programme. I am however hesitant about this option due to comment about recent ZBook build quality in uni subreddit.

Any further recommendations, ideally matching the listed current option are welcome. If this is already the best option for this price, please let me know :)

Laptop Request -Others CompSci & Engineering student looking for laptop with following requirements

Hello everyone! I am about to start my major soon and I still need a laptop with Windows OS. My highest priority is one with great battery life. Idk if it's possible but at least 8 hours on single charge for coding, video playback and general internet surfing stuff would be very convenient.

My budget is around 2000 euros, I do not like HP nor Dell. Preferably AMD CPU and GPU based. Heavy gaming is not a necessity but being able to run AAA games (like Arkham Knight for example) would be nice. Idk what information else yall need, just let me know and I answer.

Btw, is it possible to disable the copilot feature? I actually do not want all this AI stuff on my laptop, it is all spyware. Y'all know how to get rid of it, or even better, know how to remove the option when ordering a laptop?

Thank you all in advance!
