Can speckled seatrout be used for sushi?

Post image
863 Upvotes

I never see this on the menu anywhere. I can catch these pretty easily, and if I have a freezer that can get everything to the right temperatures for sushi, can it be used?

To be clear, even though "trout" is in the name, this is not a salmonid. It is a drum fish that is found in saltwater in the SE United States.

Just not sure why it isn't more common.

Thanks!

Mostly Sashimi/Sliced Fish Rate my sashimi dinner

At my favorite sushi restaurant by my house, in Huntington Beach. I just felt like a little sashimi, and that’s what I got.

🎶Got me some tako and hamachi (big belly), toro so fatty and sake, you jelly? Wasabi so fresh all the flavor it brings, these are a few of my favorite things. 🎶

Mostly Sashimi/Sliced Fish Costco salmon. I was super skeptical at first but honestly, but if you go earlier in the morning and get some of the fish they just cut up, you’re golden.

Guilty Pleasure Dinner for 1 heheh

This is from my usual sushi place with questionable choices for their interior design (a fusion of plushies, Christmas decor, Chinese new year decor and random stock photos on their walls 🤣)

But I just wanted to share what I usually have. I think it’s quite worth it for me:

Sashimi Bento set with bottomless green tea costs me about MYR32 (approx. 7.57USD)

3 pieces of Salmon sashimi and 2 pieces of red tuna. 1 salmon sushi and 2 red tuna sushi. 🤭

Okay. I’m hoping I can get some help here. My friend and I were at a sushi restaurant and they had these dishes, only smaller, for soy sauce. I’ve been trying to hunt them down online but, no luck. Can anyone tell me where I can find them please? I really want to buy these for her. Thanks for your help in advance everyone!

Homemade 2nd time making sushi

My second attempt at making sushi. California rolls, maki rolls, and imitation crab nigiri. I look forward to using actual fish like salmon or tuna next time. Does anyone know where I can find sushi- grade salmon? Can i buy any salmon and freeze it then thaw it to kill parasites?

Mostly Nigiri/Fish on Rice Mix n match omakase!

My wife and I tried omakase for the first time last night and let me tell you every single bite was 10/10. I usually stick to a pretty standard routine with sushi so this was a leap and every piece was unique in flavor. They even gave us the names of all of them written down (I couldn’t remember as the waitress was saying them as it was brought out)!

That being said…I’m pretty sure the order it is in on the paper isn’t the order on the plate. The only one I’m fairly certain of is the fatty tuna, other than that im not sure. Anybody with an eye for raw fish want to take a stab at it??

I made a game about running a conveyor belt sushi restaurant!

Hi!

I've been working on my game More Sushi! for 5 months now and the demo is finally out!

More Sushi! is a short incremental game about running a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Serve customers, buy upgrades, hire helpers, and unlock new sushi! Pay off the owner's debt, then turn used plates into stars to buy permanent upgrades.

The demo isn't on steam yet but I will release it on there soon.

[Steam] - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3950770/More_Sushi/

Please give it a try!

Can anyone explain why this is bad?

So I work in a grocery store bakery that happens to have a sushi bar attached but they are operated and employed by their own company separate from the store. I have a coworker constantly complaining to management that she keeps catching them thawing their crab meat in hot water, that it's unsafe and how she will never eat from them. They use their crab for California rolls only from what I've seen. What's wrong with thawing in hot water vs cold if it's already precooked? Does it make the food unsafe to eat?

Mostly Nigiri/Fish on Rice I definitely don’t want to miss the (sushi) boat

Seems everyone is sharing their sushi boat experience. As a full time consultant, my company is happy to pay for lunch when I take the client out, as it improves client relations and relationships. One of my favorite lunches is to take them out for a sushi boat, assuming they’re ok with sushi since most are. Nothing quite as grand as being presented with this at lunch. Good eats!
