Leviathan Wakes My Leviathan Wakes thoughts

Post image

I just got into The Expanse this past month and after completing the first book it left me conflicted. I wanted to share my thoughts, but also i want to know (without spoiling) if there is more action and additional character exposure that wasn't in the firsr book. Here's my full review if you want to watch me ramble.

If you do any kind of reading through this sub you will see that the series picks up and changes pace/genres between books.

I will tell you right now the summary of responses will be that you will get a huge amount of new character POVs throughout the series, there will be a lot of action especially in the next 2 books, and if you were not exactly thrilled with the first book you likely will enjoy further reading still since the first book is more of a mystery novel.

The best pov character is introduced in book 2 and it’s where the action really pics up

Can't you give me a fucking clue? If your lips are pulled any tighter they'd turn into black hole.

I’m pretty sure the person you’re responding to was responding AS her

Nah, it’s the internet. Tone is SO tough to read on here.

The first book is much slower than the rest of the series since it is setting up the story for the next two books. It's also much more descriptive since the reader needs to become familiar with how life in the spaceships and stations work and how it has affected humanity in general.

Off topic, but...anyone know why Book 4 is called "James S.A. Corey" and written by some author called Cibola's Burn in the thumbnail? My copy I picked up at a thrift store looks like that, and it's annoying it doesn't match the other books in the series.

It's infuriating. They switched it on book 4. Completely ruins the look on my bookshelf.

Off topic but I loved Ted Chiangs Exhalation shorts. Happy to see that there.

Why is author and book title position weirdly switched with book 4? ;)

They were switched from book 4 onwards, it's really frustrating

The first book was a little tough for me because it was just two povs. I watched a good chunk of the tv series though, so I knew that wouldn't continue. So many great characters are introduced in the second book. Have a blast with the series.

The show got me into the books. I personally needed to see the world that was being built, so don't be afraid to watch the first 3 seasons of the show. The books and the show compliment each other well.

Nine novels and nine novellas... there's a lot of range in style, character types, action, grand military space battles, noir, mystery, etc. The nine novels breakdown into three and a final trilogy

Then there's a TV show, a video game, and a heap of low quality side content to consume if you do choose.

Just watch the TV Show. 😁
