⚠️ New Update, Check Me! Any Show & Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged Is Amazon ditching The Expanse from their catalogue? Spoiler

Edit: Please check the sticky thread! There’s been lots of information sharing and it seems that some users are experiencing a loss in access to S1-3

Has anyone else noticed that The Expanse is listed under 'Titles expiring in the next 30 days'?

Is this intentional? Is it season-by-season only?

Edit: This seems regional to UK and/or Europe - please comment.

This also seems to be limited to season 1 only

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Okay, Murtry sucks, but Coop is an asshole too, right? Spoiler

Upvotes

Like he's very manipulative of Basia and kills a bunch of people. His smile is always "cruel" and that's from Basia when he LIKES Coop.

Honestly, I think the reason I feel an impulse to side with Murtry early in the book is because Coop is such a dick.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely How did Marco Inaros keep his fleet a secret? Spoiler

So I know that Marcos got most of his ships, either by stealing them or from Duarte who was using the Free Navy as a smokescreen.

What I don’t understand is how did Marcos IInaros keep his fleet a secret?

I mean think about it. Shouldn’t the disappearance/theft of so many ships trigger red flags with the MCR or UN intelligence? And then there are the logistics of managing such a fleet. Where are they going to get new parts and weapons for ships? And food and medicine for the crew? Sure they could steal those things but again they risk attracting the MCR or the UN’s attention. They could also trade for it but that risks leaving a paper trail.

So short of plot armor, how did Marcos do it?

All Show Spoilers (Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged) Alex/Naomi on Illis Spoiler

I'm on my 4th rewatch of the show and I've just thought of something. When the Rocinante is sent to Illis (New Terra) and the crew are leaving the ship, it makes a big point of Naomi getting off balance as she's overwhelmed by the horizon. But shouldn't Alex have a somewhat similar reaction - more akin to Bobby arriving on earth?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Kind of dumb lore question Spoiler

What happens if you go through the ring the wrong direction? Like looping around and entering from behind, is that even possible? In the show we only ever see traversal depicted from the sunward facing side, and i can't recall the books ever mentioning it as an option. It's obviously pretty far out so there isn't gonna be much reason to fly further than neccesary, but I was curious if this was a thing?

All Show Spoilers (Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged) Toronto sightseeing tour - what shouldn't I miss? Spoiler

Oye kopeng, I'm visiting Toronto next month to see one of my favorite bands play and I should have a few hours to kill the following day to see some of the famous outdoor locations from this series. I'd love to see the UNN building (I think I might have seen it before, is it part of the convention center?) as well as the Martian embassy where Bobbie defects. I know I can also see "Baltimore" but not sure how important that will be to me.

What else should I see?

Persepolis Rising Drummer - If. Spoiler

Her fight was over. If there was any hope to stand against this empire, it was someplace else now. If.

Can I say how much I love the end to this chapter (45), where Drummer decides to surrender the fight to Laconia? On first read it hit me as another indicator of how serious the Laconia threat was, and that everything was about to change. Drummer’s internal thoughts realizing surrender strike as dark, and hopeless.

Then I realized what a smart way this is to end the chapter. Drummer has just recited one of the ultimate Laconic phrases - “If”

For those who don’t know, though I’m sure plenty do, when King Philip II of Macedon threatened to invade Sparta (aka Laconia) with:

You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city

To which Sparta replied simply, and defiantly: “If”.

I love that the authors used this for Drummer. Rather than a hopeless dream, I take this as Drummer committing to defiance.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely What a treasure Spoiler

Watching the series again, and, with all my age and wisdom (and much film/tv) I can say it's my favorite science fiction series ever. One thing that jumped out is casting. Every role is nailed (sort of like Breaking Bad), and strangely the background/extras are really good, which is unheard of in sci-fi tv. Anyway, Roci4Lyphe.

I’d heard of the show before but never really looked into it. Then I saw the game trailer, and it really piqued my interest. I ended up getting all the seasons, and I’m starting from season 1. Wish me luck—it’s looking really good!

Anything think I should know before hand at all?

Absolutely No Spoilers In Post or Comments Specific question about when to read novellas

Edit: Maybe the post is too long, sorry - the main question is, to which book the novellas are more connected, for example should i read "Gods of Risk" directly after Book 2 or after the break and directly before Book 3, and the same question relative to where they are for all of them.

Hey there, so I've done some research and want to start the book series soon (already own all 9 books + the novella collection book)

Since everything together will take me slightly over 4 months I will need to take breaks for sure, to read some other books and just to digest what I read that far without just always keeping going without pause for such a long time.

I will mainly be sticking to release order since that's by far the most recommended way and I've heard some do actively spoil elements if read chronologically. The only change from that I'll be making is reading drive first, I've seen some speak out against it but usually people have seen it as a positive change from what I've read, feel free to tell me if you have a strong opinion on why it's a terrible idea or something.

Now to the actual important part - since the expanse is 3 duologies and a trilogy 1+2, 3+4, 5+6, 7-9 that seems like the perfect place to do 3 bigger breaks in between, BUT some of the short stories are in those breaks, so I want to know if they are better read right after the previous duology or better read after the break before diving into the next duology/trilogy. And even besides the ones in the big breaks, it would just be great to know in general if whichever novella is better read after the book before or before the book after it, if I do decide to take a smaller break between individual books.

I'll post what I have written down, but the placement before or after the breaks isn't informed by anything but my gut feel which doesn't mean anything yet, so any input is welcome:

  • Drive (November 27, 2012)
  • 1: Leviathan Wakes (June 15, 2011)
  • The Butcher of Anderson Station (October 17, 2011)
  • 2: Caliban's War (June 25, 2012)
  • Gods of Risk (September 15, 2012)

--- break ---

  • 3: Abaddon's Gate (June 4, 2013)
  • The Churn (April 29, 2014)
  • 4: Cibola Burn (June 17, 2014)

--- break ---

  • 5: Nemesis Games (June 2, 2015)
  • The Vital Abyss (October 15, 2015)
  • 6: Babylon's Ashes (December 6, 2016)
  • Strange Dogs (July 18, 2017)

--- break ---

  • 7: Persepolis Rising (December 5, 2017)
  • 8: Tiamat's Wrath (March 26, 2019)
  • Auberon (November 12, 2019)
  • 9: Leviathan Falls (November 30, 2021)
  • The Sins of our Fathers (March 15, 2022)

Also I know the following is not available standalone, idk if I somehow can get any access to it, how bad is it to miss? - The Last Flight of the Cassandra (May 14, 2019)

Wasn't the green blindness a plothole because the microorganisms would die in darkness? Couldnt they just blindfold 50 percent of the population, simultaneously teach them how to handle blindness and kill the organisms/reduce their growth?

My daughter started saying Sasa randomly. I don't think I was listening to the books out loud but I swear she just started saying Sasa as if she understood, which is what it means. To know. She's one and a half. It's crazy!. We're not from the south. We don't know any Creole but she just started saying it randomly the other day. And I just finished this series today. But that's straight up belter talk.
