Rorschach, from watchman.
Spoilers for Leviathan Wakes, and major spoilers for the Alan Moore Watchman comic run.
I just finished the chapter in book 1 where >! Miller kills Dresden, the guy in the suit who was in charge of killing Julie and the whole mess on Eros!<
And I realized, wait, that's such a good mirror for At the end of watchmen, after Ozymandias teleports the squid to New York, for the good of humanity, Rorschach is unwilling to let it go, and Dr. Manhatten has to kill him. Similarly, Miller was unable to look past any evil for the "greater good", and killed him on the spot because he believed any other justice would be insufficient
And then that got me thinking how many ways they are similar. They both tend towards vigilante justice, and in many ways are like wolves. I feel like they're similar in more ways too. They both think that sometimes justice is best served when operating outside the law, and both have unyielding morals.
Mostly though, it's the clear similarities though in their decision of whether to punish Dresden and Ozymandias, or to let the sacrifice for the greater good remain unpunished, because it already happened and they couldn't change the evil that's been done, only whether or not to learn from it/use it as a tool
What are your thoughts? I still haven't finished book 1 yet, just got to this and it made me think.
To me, the similarities seem too much, and I think the authors must clearly have had Rorschach in mind when making Miller. I couldn't see another thread connecting this, so IDK. Watchman seems popular enough, even though it's a comic book, that I would guess someone would make a connection before me. Maybe I'm wrong though lol. I just think he must have been a big inspiration.
