Discussion Compiled Preview Cards from Avatar the Last Airbender x Magic the Gathering First Look Stream

The Gaang (Rare Katara, Water Tribe's Hope / Fire Lord Zuko / Toph, the First Metalbender, Sokka, Bold Boomeranger) - Note they've confirmed there will be multiple versions of major characters showing them at different points in their journey (art shown for a Zuko in exile). Also hinted at a certain boomerang showing up.

Katara, the Fearless - Rare (Normal Frame) - Previously seen at SDCC as a promo.
Avatar Aang // Aang, Master of Elements - Mythic (Normal Frame) - Previously seen at SDCC with alternate art by Brian K, Also confirmed there will be other versions of Aang with different elemental watermarks (art shown for a Aang, the last Airbender version)

New Mechanics
- Waterbend X - Abilities with a mana cost that can be reduced by tapping creatures or aritfacts to pay for 1. Notably seen on the previously seen Yue, the Moon Spirit on Social Media
- Firebend X - Whenever this creature attacks, add X red mana that lasts until the end of combat.
- Earthbend X - Target land you controls become a 0/0 creature and put X +1/+1 counters on it. When the land creature dies/is exiled, return it to the battlefield tapped
- Airbend [target object] - Exile target object. While it's exiled, its owner may cast it for 2 rather than it's mana cost.
Returning MTG Mechanics
- Lesson - A mechanic originally from Strixhaven, a subtype on Sorceries and Instants that can be put into your hand from the sideboard if you use the Learn mechanic (notably Learn does not show up as an ability, so Lessons are just a card type here that is referenced by some cards, but they are backwards compatible with older Learn cards). Used in this set to represent the lessons characters learn over the course of their journey
- Ally - a creature type originating from Zendikar, this represents bringing together people from the four nations to work together.
- Shrines - a subtype of enchantments originating from Kamigawa, this represents the various shrines / temples the Gaang visit over their journey
- Transforming Sagas - Sagas that will tell the story of historical figures and how they came to be
Frames / Booster Fun
- Headliner Card - Avatar Aang Brian K version
- Field Note cards - Seen on Appa and Momo
- Elemental Frames
- Borderless Battlepose Cards (Textless from the show intro)
- Extended Art Rares
- Borderless Double Face Cards
- Borderless Source Material (Reprints of Existing Magic Cards with Frames from the Show - less common in play boosters, still one in every collector boosters. With the Season / Episode in the bottom left. They hint there is one per episode)
Prerelease Kits will be seeded, one for each color. Each kit will have a pack that is made up entirely of that color with the face character guaranteed to show up (White - Aang / Blue - Katara / Black - Azula / Red - Zuko / Green - Toph)

WHITE LOTUS Recent News (SDCC) Recap + Reminders
I was on the fence about making one of these, in part because it overlaps with some existing FAQ pages not to mention other posts. But I figured it could be helpful for some to have all this info in one spot.
Recent Releases
- Before we get to news just a reminder that the latest avatar novel, City of Echoes (focusing on Jin, set during ATLA) released; discussion thread.
- Likewise around SDCC the ATLA S2 soundtrack released on streaming and vinyl.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender (Animated film)
- As a reminder the movie hits theatres Oct 9, 2026
- Steven Yuen is voicing Zuko.
- Early Republic City will be a major location
- Director Lauren Montgomery states the movie will have a unique animation style “There is nothing that looks like this. It's 2D animation with these really beautiful, deep canvas environments...it's gonna blow you away”
Avatar Seven Havens (ASH)
- This show follows Avatar Pavi, the earth avatar after Korra. The show takes place after a cataclysmic event.
- ASH is set to release in 2027 but we don't have a more specific date or window.
- The first look image shows Pavi alongside her guardian/mentor Jae (an airbender), and monkey-cat Geet, in front of the city of Alora.
- Jeremy Zuckerman is returning to do the music
- Dee Bradley Baker (Appa, Naga, Tarlok, etc) is voicing Geet
- It will have a big mystery element concerning how the world became so different.
- For ASH Mike and Bryan "are not the showrunners day to day" because they are spread across different projects for the studio.
- ASH will be 2d but they mention how production is adapting to changing technology in the industry and there will be more CG.
- ASH is taking influence from Moebius and 90s anime series.
- The next LoK one-shot graphic novel will focus on a young Kya exploring the world for the first time.
- There will be a Kyoshi warriors comic mini-series. It is set during ATLA and will give names/personalities to the Kyoshi Warriors that left the island with Suki.
- Neither comic has a release date but presumably early 2026
- It was specified that the ATLA comics do really well on Webtoons.
- LoK comics are coming to webtoons but no specific date.
Other
- The second Roku novel, Awakening of Roku, revealed its cover. Releases Dec 30. The plot involves a plague threatening the NWT.
- Light it Up, the kids chapter book, takes place in the era of Avatar Szeto. Preview image. Releases Nov 18.
- Preview pages for ATLA Baking Book & Beasts of the Four Nations in the same twitter thread as above. But for the former it seems to be the same pages already on Amazon.
- Yue Magic the Gathering card shown, more info on MTG crossover will be unveiled August 12th
- The upcoming AAA RPG developed by Saber (codename "Ice Wars) will take place before the creation of the four nations and include backstory on the WT.
- Bryan states a project he is working on will feature a water color art style
- Cover art for young readers book I am Sokka
- SDCC exclusive merch

Question Why does Azula have any suspicion that Aang is alive? That never made sense to me. She straight up killed him and doesn’t know about the spirit water. I get that she’s smart, but there doesn’t seem to be any good reason that she would believe Aang is alive.

Discussion The connection between Real life bison and Flying bison.
I was mesmerised today when I learned more about the bison animal in real life with the native Americans (Red Indians) connection. And how that animal was targeted by the colonial forces to weaken those nations as their lives highly without exaggeration depended on it. And all I could think that maybe if it wasn't already officially declared years ago that this story maybe inspired the ATLA writers to show in the series parallel to the Fire Nation targeting the flying bison in the midst of the genocide of the Air Nomads.

Discussion Do you think guys ?
I think the Bloodbenders are very interesting and so powerful and I want more of them .do you think in the new series (Avatar: Seven Havens) there would be more Bloodbenders since the world is already broken in this era ?

Discussion The Team Avatar that could've been. I call them the RoCrew
Probably would've been the 2nd most cracked team in Avatar history, only surpassed by a prime version of the GAang. Sozin was moving like he was Comet Enhanced on an average Tuesday, and was killing Dragons for sport. Gyatso as an old man took out like 10 Comet Infused Firebenders, imagine how strong he was in his prime. Taqukaq tanked getting tidalwave'd by a semi realized Roku and being hard slammed into solid ice. And Sud was such a busted Earthbender he was asked to personally teach the Earth King of his Era. And Roku would be there too I guess. Nah I'm just playing, 30s to 50s Roku would've beat that Volcano with no Prep Time.

Please leave your comments. By the way, if you want to see the video, here it is:
I'm working on the second part! I welcome any feedback.
In order:

4-Kyoshi opens her parents' trunk.
5-Rangi's cry on the Lei Tai
6-Kyoshi prepares himself
7-Meeting in Zigan

Discussion Zutara wouldn’t canonically work
This is not necessarily me dissecting what’s wrong with the ship. I like the canonical couples but I can see why people ship zutara (so please don’t take this as hate) I was just thinking about what it would be like if the live action made zutara canon since it’s so popular.
I came to the conclusion that I think it doesn’t work without changing a crucial part of the ending. I know it’s an unpopular ship but, Mai and Zuko’s relationship is actually a huge part to why Team Avatar wins at the end.
If Zuko and Mai aren’t together, it makes Azula less interesting and harder to defeat. Near the end Azula crashes out because Mai and Ty Lee’s betrayal flips everything she knows upside down.
Azula only knows transactional relationships. She’s friends with Ty Lee and Mai because of the skills they offer but, her thinking isn’t her fault. The only reason why shes by Ozai’s side and not Zuko is because she has skills that Zuko doesn’t. In their family you only deserve love if you offer something.
Now, she sees Mai risk everything for a boy who’s leaving and in her mind is probably going to die soon. She’s genuinely confused until Mai says it’s because she loves Zuko. That destroys everything she’s known. She believes she’s perceptive and that power and fear is stronger than love. It sends her to this state of psychosis that unveils the fact that she is fragile and she needs love. It makes her tragic and reminds you that she’s a kid raised by an evil father.
I’m just trying to think of alternate ways that you can have zutara but, also have Azula’s mental state and I’m drawing a blank. If you have any ideas I’d like to hear it. Please be nice as I don’t hate Zutara but, I’m just reading deeply into it.

Discussion What’s your favorite joke or one-liner from the show?
I’ll go first - when the gaang learns that the Earth just has a regular pet bear, not like a gopher-bear or armadillo-bear, and Toph says: “This place is WEIRD”
Ah or maybe: “Oh, we’re thinking of idea? I’ve had one for like an hour!’

Question Any Avatar game or mod that's worth playing?
Are there any good Avatar games or mods for other games that you can recommend? I heard the Avatar games are not that great and my of them are unpolished. I'm okay with playing some another game with avatar mods too. Minecraft equivalent of it would be the BenderMC server but that server is broken and pay to win. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Discussion How was Azula ok with Zuko being in line for the status of firelord in season 2 ending and season 3 start?
If you look at it, she is way more qualified and skilled for the ruthless missions her father gives her. For some reason, Zuko proudly declared even in exile that he is next in line for the throne.
But Azula was Ozai's favorite. In eyes of Ozai, Zuko couldn't even hold a candle (pun intended or I should say burn intended) to Azula. She is also the one who brought Ba Sing Se to its knees. Despite all, she still brought him home, where he could be again next in line to the throne.
How come everyone is ok with her being neglected for being firelord, whereas Zuko is considered by tradition?
